The trafic to get there may become very heavy, especially in the evening when people go there to watch the sunset. It was not much better at noon when we got there. But it was worth it (2) Tanah lot temple is in the sea. Away from coast. No tourist is allowed inside the temple.. it's just the view from the coast . The temple is majestic situated on top of the sea.. very good place neatly maintained.. the market leading to this temple is very nice.. some shopping enthusiasts will love the leading road street shopping. (3) You cannot go to Bali without a visit to Tanah Lot Temple, this is one of the best sites you will see, especially for sunset. (4) Tanah Lot Temple was one of the first locations we visited upon arrival in Bali. We were super excited because we had read so many brilliant reviews. \nWhen you get there, it's all very crowded as there are many tourists around waiting for the sunset. \nThere are many shops and different little stands where people are selling corn and drinks. When you actually go in, you can see the Tanah Lot Temple which isn't actually that beautiful in comparison to some of the other's we have seen. Also when asked about the history, we weren't really given an answer. We were just told to visit the snake in the cave and offer money to the holy snake and go and get water from the holy springs. Our tour guide really made us feel pressured to go and visit the holy snake but we were just not comfortable with this. \n\nAdditionally, be warned you will be exposed to a lot of passive smoking and people drinking alcohol - although this is meant to be an esteemed religious place of worship, it seemed very unhygienic and the allowance of tobacco and intoxicants in a place of worship seemed so out of place. \n\nAfter walking around the temple and taking some photos with the ocean, we decided to go back up to the bridge so we could watch the sunset - this was the only aspect worth the actual tour. The view to the sunset here was beautiful. Other than that, it was rather smelly and massively crowded. (5) Have visited Tanah Lot Temple twice on separate trips to Bali. The views are beautiful and amazing how the temple has been built right on the cliffs edge. Makes for some amazing photos. (6) Everything about Tanah Lot is exciting & full of history. The Temple itself is one of Bali's holy places & when viewing this at sunset one is moved by the serenity & beauty of the place. We had a driver take us to Tanah Lot & also explain the history. For those wishing to visit the markets there is plenty to keep you busy! (7) Going in the evening to Tanah Lot Temple wasnt a good idea\nFirstly the crowds were packed everywhere, plus unluckily for us it was cloudy.\nSecondly,we will visit the temple again but in the early morning period as not so many tourist will be there \nA hint,to the right is a small market, go to the end of the path and a restaurant is there without anybody in front of you, plus the view is unrestricted. (8) Tanah Lot Temple is a must see. That's really all there is to say, it is just incredible and beautiful. (9) The tanah lot temple is best to see at the end of the day, for the sunset. The view of the temple almost in the sea is amazing. Don't forget to go there if you are in the surroundings ! (10) This was my favourite place I visited in Bali. Leave to get there early afternoon as traffic can be horrendous getting out to tanah lot. Make sure your there for the sunset. It is absolutely amazing. The views are stunning! There are market stalls and restaurants there to eat and drink cocktails. You can go down the cliff into the temple and be blessed. You can also touch the holy snakes while they read a prayer for good luck. Fantastic afternoon! A must when you visit Bali. (11) Beautiful place at a close proximity to Kuta. The local market inside Tanah Lot worth a visit as well, it has very reasonable prices. (12) Tanah Lot is a beautiful temple. All around are beautiful flowers, atmospheric lighting and excellent views. I came here with my girlfriend to enjoy the sunset and was not disappointed (even though we did not quite make it in time, catching only the very end of it.)\n\nEntry for adults is 30000 Rp per person, we also paid 2000 Rp for parking our scooter. Overall, I do really recommend this romantic place. The pictures we had taken together look great! (13) We visited Tanah lot towards sunset with a group of friends. It was very crowded with a lot of tourists. The temple itself is gorgeous. The best viewing point though was at one of the little cafes on the side. There are plenty of shops at Tanah Lot and prices are quite cheap compared to other places. Toilets were quite poorly kept with a fee of 3000 Rp per usage. Although a gorgeous place, due to the amount of people there It was a little overwhelming. (14) Sunset is stunning here. but daylight is just a good too. During low tide visitors can walk to the temple for blessing. If it is high tide then just watch the waves beating furiously against the temple. My guide Robert +6281916633062 also showed me another temple nearby which is called Puri Batu Bolong which is short walking distant from Tanah Lot. (15) Visited the Tanah Lot Temple in the morning and the views in to the Indian Ocean were amazing.\nThe grounds are well kept and the Temple sits in the sea.\nIt was quite busy but gets busy later in the day as people go and sea the sunset which we would have missed anyway as was going to be cloudy so we did our trip in reverse to miss the crowds.\nWell worth a visit pity they charge you for the toilets but it was a really small charge.\nFood and drinks available also souvenirs at very reasonable prices. (16) We went to Tanah Lot just before the sun set and it was spectacular! Small entrance fee of around IRP 16k per person. There are lots of little shops before you actually get to Tanah Lot that sell clothes, art, souvenirs galore. \n\nWhen you get to the pathway of Tanah Lot there is a spectacular entry way that invites you in. It is just breathtaking! Amazing views all round. We took the walk to the right to the hole in the rocks first, that for me was just beautiful! \n\nThe temple is so intricate and just an absolutely amazing building! It was a wonderful experience but very touristy so you do have to fight your way through the crowds to get a good picture! \n\nWell worth the trip! (17) It was a holy day the day we visited so there were many, many people arriving carrying offerings. There was a prayer service in progress as we arrived and it was lovely to see.\nTanah Lot is a beautiful place - it is well worthwhile taking the time to walk all the way around so you can see all the islands/outcrops. (18) Tanah Lot Temple is located about an hour out of Legian but is certainly worth the drive. It's an amazing Temple built on the rocks and something to behold. Many people so come early and it involves a bit of walking so wear good shoes! Plenty of Restaurants and shops so allow a couple of hours. Certainly worth a visit.... .Highly Recommended. (19) - Me and my wife decided to book a full day tour which covers TANAH LOT sunset tour.\n- Our tour begins in the morning with hotel pickup by private vehicle and after covering various attraction we reached here in the early evening.\n- Tanah lot temple is 1 hr 15 min drive from Kuta.\n- This place is famous for Sunset and a rock formation just off the coast of Bali, where a temple sits on the rocks. \n- We had never seen anything like this before. We loved every minute we were here.\n- One more important thing that you cannot enter the temple grounds but the panoramic views and cultural offerings are highlights to enjoy.\n- For the Balinese people, it is one of the most sacred of all the island's sea temples so please manitain that sacredness.\n- Walk to the right end of the temple to enjoy a great view of the headlands\n- In the end we stopped at one of the clifftop restaurant here and while enjoying your meal some friendly cats will come to meet you at the cafe's tables.\n- There are lots of local shops at the main entrance of the temple.\n- You will get coconut seller inside the premises which is a must try.\n- Despite being soo commercialized and crowded this should surely be on everyones list.\n\nSO GLAD we decided to visit here...\n\nTicket: 30,000 IDR\nOpening Hours: 07:00 – 19:00\nLocation: The temple is located in the Beraban village of the Tabanan regency, an approximate 20km northwest of Kuta. (20) we had a shop at the markets before and after seeing Tanah Lot Temple. At the Temple we were blessed at the bottom. There was no walking up the top although I'm not sure if they was a permanent closure or just when we were there. It was hard to get a good photo due to the sheer amount of people there. I would suggest going at sunset although if you dislike crowds maybe not. (21) Tanah Lot is one of the many beautiful temples you can find spread all across Bali.\n\nIt is one of the more famous and touristically busy ones due to its unique location.\nTanah Lot is built on top of a stone that protrudes from the ground just a little off the West Coast of Bali - but still close enough to walk over.\nDuring low tide, it's dry to walk and during high tide, there is a little water to walk through.\n\nThe unique location makes this temple a spectacular sight - especially during the blue hour just before sunset and early in the morning.\n\nWhen I traveled, there were priests there, who will give visitors a small blessing before you can climb up the stairs around the temple.\nUnfortunately though, except for the beautiful setting, the temple itself (inside) is not accessible and therefore there is disappointingly little to really see / explore. (22) I found that Tanah Lot was actually best viewed from a distance. It was quite beautiful with an ocean backdrop (even on a rainy day). Up close I don't feel it was really that exciting but still nice to see. (23) Every visit to Bali entails a trip to Tanah Lot Temple and dinner at Echo Beach to watch the sunset. Tanah Lot Temple has so much beauty all around it and tourists can also receive a blessing which we always partake. On our last visit, my brother-in-law, who had never been before, said he would like to spend half a day there, on his next visit as he loves photography and said there are so many great pictures he could take. (24) Everybody nows \Tanah Lot\" as it is the most popular motif on postcards. Especially in the afternoon you will be one of thousands of other tourists waiting for the sunset. But the Ura Luhur Uluwatu-Temple on Jimbaran peninsula is very impressing too. \nYou can walk along the cliffs with spectacular views, you will meet monkeys all over the huge area. \nBest time in the morning, because it will be less crowded and in the afternoon you should be aware of the heavy traffic." (25) when I went there, the weather was cloudy and to see the sunset on the western horizon somewhat disturbed.\nBut a different story if at that time the weather is very bright, very beautiful sunlight walking on the sea to shining Tanah Lot Temple.\nIt is advised to leave before 4 o'clock afternoon to avoid traffic on the road to get there (26) We had beautiful and nice sunset in Tanah Lot temple, great day. My driver help me took a picture, but here was very busy when sunset time. recommended (27) A short 30 minutes from Legian, Tanah Lot is a must see location. If you are not into crowds I recommend you arrive no later than 9am. Still plenty of people, but enough room to move and get that perfect photo. Make sure that if you go in the morning that you walk the cliffs and take in the alternate perspective.\n\nThe markets are plentiful, but know that they are similar to all other markets but the prices are restricted. If you make it there for the evening I have heard the fire dancing is exceptional. At the we visited the fire dancing was advertised as not available for six months. So, if you're planning a trip to Tanah Lot please seek early advice. (28) Been to Tanah Lot 13 years ago but in the hot afternoon and I was not impressed due to the scorching temperature . Finally I got the opportunity to see the settings during sunset. The legend is beautiful but the sunset at the premise is overhyped. Overly crowded with noise pollution. \nPlease beware of tides, when it starts to raise, the waves come from everywhere and the level raises rapidly. There are potted holes on the entire beach so you need to be extremely careful when you walk back from the beach after the sunset. Worth a visit but avoid high expectation. (29) The place was nice & beautiful. We love indian ocean wave. Tanah lot is kids friendly. We spent 1-2 hours around there and take a very nice picture with spectacular view! Will be back again soon! (30) I had never been to Tanah Lot even though I have been to Bali many times, but mainly Lovina and the East coast and Ubud. Tanah Lot is different from other places in Bali and the temple and grounds were much bigger than I realised and it was a very pleasant visit. I even found souvenirs for sale that were different from all the other places and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit (31) Wasnt possible to visit the Temple though but you can view it from the shoreline. Tanah Lot is best visited with a private guide and in the morning to avoid the enormous afternoon and evening crowds (32) Tanah Lot gave us a breathtaking scenic view. The breath and the sound of the waves were magic. The decoration and gardens were surreal. Tanah Lot offered a day of tranquillity and peace. \nThis temple is now very commercialized and the amount of tourist can be annoying. It took me a while in order to get my perfect shot without having tourist walk in front of my camera. \nIf you are visiting Bali do not miss this place. (33) I first visited Tanah Lot in the 90’s, I have been back a few times since. One of the highlights was meandering through the craft markets on the way back to the car park to meet your driver and looking at all the wood workers working. I was there in January 2018 and boy this place has changed. In the 400m walk from the temple shore to the car park area you pass 6 Polo Ralph Lauren shops, this place is in the middle of nowhere and a good hour from Seminyak. Who goes to a temple site to buy crappy Polo Ralph Lauren? \nAlso, beware of the taxi Mafia, we were abused and stalked and generally terrified with the bullying tactics of the taxi mafia there. We took a taxi there and it was Rp50k, the taxi mafia were charging Rp200k to return to Seminyak area, and would not let you take any other form of transport. YOU HAD TO TAKE THEIR TAXI. They were quite intimidating and scary. This place has become an over priced tourist trap to avoid in Bali unfortunately. (34) We went there from Kuta about 1.5-2 hrs ride reaching there around 4:30 in the evening when the tides were low and the base of the temple was accessible. We had a look around the temple and surroundings and found a nice spot to watch the waves (so therapeutic!) and waited for the much hyped sunset.\n\nAs this was our first attraction in Bali and as there was so much hype about Tanah lot, I was prepared to be disappointed. BUT the whole experience was amazing! The calmness of the temple (despite the crowds), crashing of the waves, the amazing sunset and the beautiful display of twilight – Amazing! Please Go!! (35) I just bring our guests to visit Tanah Lot Temple. For sure they are so appreciated that the view was so beauty and wonthering. They said will come again for next holiday (36) Quite an amazing and spiritual place ( no matter what your faith or beliefs ) - I have visited Bali many times but my first visit to Tanah Lot Temple. Best suggested to get your self a local driver for the day or part day - plus avoid any of the touristy traps on your way to and within the Temple area carpark and traders ( you have no choice but to pay multiple x retail on beverages and food etc especially on a hot and dry Bali day.)\nRespect the temples and read the signage too. Plenty of photo opportunities - plus being on the west coast - the sunsets are simply amazing. (37) The Tanah Lot Temple is simply enchanting, beautiful and unique - built on the rocks on the ocean. Great sunset point, but you will have to fight the crowds.\n\nWe visited Tanah Lot Temple with our private tour guide - Argus with Agus Bali Private Tour. (38) Do not miss sunset at tanah alot on your bali trip. You will not regret the visit. You have to buy tickets which costed 60k IDR per person. A short walk to the temple and you meet the over joyed the sea. The temple is situated in between the sea and when the tides get high you are not allowed to cross the sea to get to the main temple but do not disappointed at all. I was not able to go the main temple but the view and the experience was breath taking. (39) I had not been to Tanah Lot for probably 30 years, but wanted my daughter to experience it (she is 20 years old). It had changed so much with a big market and cafes etc. and being the time of year we went it was especially busy with Indonesian school holidays and Galugan . But despite all that it still had a special feel about it. To get away from the crowds we sat in a cafe on the hill and watched the sunset and everything that was going on below. So different, but I loved everything anyway (40) Visit the mystic temple, feel the wind, see the mighty waves of the sea and enjoy the sunset. It was amazing, the place was crowded though, entire view was so beautiful. Tanah lot is an amazing temple located right on the coast and you can get there walking when the ocean is low. The waves from the sea was awesome. The sunset view was mesmerizing. I would say it is the number 1 attraction in Bali. (41) Tanah Lot was definitely the most beautiful, stunning temple I have seen in all of Southeast Asia. Despite the crowds, the architecture is stunning and the ocean view is priceless. A must-see for anyone visiting Bali (42) To get to the temple, you would have to cross a small path across the sea on foot which makes this whole experience unique and thrilling! Depending on your luck, sometimes the tide may get a little high and you might lose your balance while crossing the sea. So make sure you hold on to someone. \nVisiting the Tanah Lot beach is a must. The glittering black sand with the clear light blue water is so pretty and stunning! Also, head to Dewi Sinta restaurant for some delicious food. (43) Good location Tanah lot temple, always busy this area, very beautiful temple on the sea and nice for sunset too!! (44) I visited Tanah Lot during June. The sea temple is very beautiful. We were lucky to reach the place during sunset time. The view was really amazing. Like all other places in Bali this temple is also very commercialized. The pathway from main road till the temple is mostly covered by shops all around. \nThere are small small ceremonies going around everywhere. Even to walk to one part of the temple you need to go into the cave and get yourself purified with some holy water. It is as per the traditions of the place. After a while you might feel that the traditions are overdone to help get more money from tourists. \nThe commercial aspect aside, the place is really beautiful. If you visit Bali you should definitely visit this beautiful temple. We got to know from our driver that the place is always crowded. There May not be specific time to avoid the traffic. The black sand and the rocks surrounding the temple are really beautiful. We were able to walk up to the entrance of the temple. If the tide is high it may not be possible. (45) Must visit place, but too crowded. The temple you see you are not allowed to go in anyway.\nRock formations out at sea, Tanah Lot is quite a tourist attraction, about 40mins north of Seminyak. Best times to visit are around sunrise or sunset. (46) Tanah Lot Temple was the one of Bali's amazing. I was there on the trip to Banyuwangi and Bali.\n\nI like this temple with the panoramic of sea near, with the angry waves foward to you.\n\nThe sunset here its most beutifull time. (47) This is very beautiful temple in Bali, location was very good. I saw many temples in Bali but this is the most beautiful temple in Bali, lagoon is very beautiful at tanha lot. (48) The Tanah Lot Temple is set out in the water so unless you go at low tide you won't be able to walk out to see it up close. We did not go at sunset which is supposed to be spectacular but still the visit was worth the trip. A beautiful pace with a nice view of the waves crashing against the rocks. There were professional photographers on site if you wanted to pay to have pictures taken. One of the best Temples we visited in Bali. (49) tanah lot and its surrounding waters must've been very beautiful in the past. now,i just think it's a crowded area where people come to take photos of rocks and waves and a distant temple that you can't really get close to. for me, it's nothing really special. the lack of activities in the surrounding area should make you reconsider if it's really worth visiting. thankfully, there were restaurants and shops around the area. we decided avoid the sun's heat and proceeded to buy wooden sculptures and get some exotic flavored gelato. (50) One of my favorite spot in Bali! I love the view from the cliff, Tanah Lot is crowded though. We went here in the morning and a lot of people already, but we still enjoyed the view! (51) Perhaps the charm of this location comes from being able to walk out to the temple so high tide may not be the best time to visit. But I found it to be very pretty. However, I'm not sure I'd brave the crowds to do be there at sunset, especially if you've been to other sunset locations (Ulu Watu and the Kecak Dance come to mind as being a better option at sunset). In addition to the Tanah Lot temple that's featured in the pictures, there's a couple of other smaller equally pretty locations in the vicinity and worth the time to walk around and explore the different views along the cliff side. (52) We used a private driver to get us there, its quite a drive from where we stayed in Kuta, upon arrival one must wade through the markets stalls to get to the actual temple, but to see this place at sunset was stunning. You can choose to partake in a cleansing with holy water for a donation at the bottom of the Temple, no visitors are allowed into the temple itself. Lots of photo opportunity's and great places to eat on the way out. Tanah Lot was a truly remarkable experience. (53) The thought of an arduous ride in car in stop/go traffic for up to 2 hours is never pleasurable when you’re on vacation. But when you finally reach the destination and enjoy soaking up all the culture and history while viewing a natural marvel make it worthwhile. Tanah Lot gave us all of this along with some great views roadside during the travel both ways. (54) It is more of a scenic beauty while watching the gentle waves lashing on the huge rocks, atop which is nestled the tanah lot temple. Best time to visit is during sunset. U fortunately a cess to the temple is restricted. (55) The setting at Tanah Lot is majestic with lots of photo opportunities with two main sights. The entrance fee is $3, however, the venue is now somewhat commercial as you have to pass through an extensive mass of market stalls to get there. \nWell worth a visit. We are told it is very busy for the sunset viewing but we did not stay to experience this. (56) Agree with previous comments, beautiful temple and scenery with excellent facilities for the tourist. Not as busy as Tanah Lot and worth the longer trip to get there. (57) The first time I saw the picture of the Tanah Lot temple was at the Architectural Digest. Call it an obsession but since then, I've always wanted to see it in person. It didn't disappoint. It was a view from heaven from God's window! \n\nTo reach the temple, it will take you about 10 minutes to walk to the park -like setting. There are several temples within the area, one to the right and one in the middle and the one towards the left is the biggest and at the lowest location. To reach this temple, you have to check the tide whether the tide is low or high tide. If there is a high tide, you can see it from a viewing area and if it is your lucky day and it is low tide at the time of your visit, you can walk down to a rocky area and get really close to the Tanah Lot temple. Here, you can watch the crushing waves pound the rocky shoreline. \n\nWhile we were there, big waves were pounding on the shore, while the small waves lapped at the shore. They rolled and crashed and washed over sand and rocks. The view was just mesmerizing and no wonder Bali is mystical and magical at the same time. \n\n if you ever go visit Bali, please do not miss visiting this site. It is a-must -see place in Bali and definitely two thumbs -up. In our last visit, our agent Putu Aryana of Bali Go Tours arranged that we were there at a low-tide so some of us can walk down all the way to the water at the Temple. It is said to be a good omen and a blessing. No matter what your belief is, once you get to the Temple, it is pure heaven! (58) Tanah Lot area has been growing rapidly for tourist. You can enjoy beautiful view of temples located on top of hill facing ocean. Afterward, you can find many souvenir shops along the entrance. You can enjoy sunset with magnificent view from open area. Whenever high tide, you may not be able to enter a cave located under the temple. (59) Tanah Lot is the most photographed temple in Bali. Family with teenagers is a MUST. Walk thru the market stalls and then arrive at the temple.\nGreat family photo opportunities.\nAwesome crashing waves. Most exciting part was crossing thru the water to the temple. What a challenge. Once you are across give a small donation and be blessed with the water and have the rice placed on your forehead. Really cool.\nDone A Lot at Tanah Lot. (60) photogarphy at tanah lot. \nmost the tourist choose tanah lot has the destination.. for the photography and pleasure
