Even it's a very \touristy\" place with a large market and handful of seller in front, the temple itself is beautiful and twice as much during sunset/sunrise. Despite many tourist I still enjoyed walking along the reef and gathered some of the magical atmosphere it has. The entrance fee is around 20K Rp." (2) Tanah Lot Temple is 16th century work is finest temple I saw in Bali. We visited in evening to sunset. Tanah lot entrance fee was IDT 60k.\n\nIt is build on rock in the sea.   It is more of a scenic beauty while watching the gentle waves lashing on the huge rocks and sun setting in sky.Best part was no rain. However sky was clody so it was not vary nice but we had feel of sun set with waves colliding on rocks. By the time sun set area become crowded. It was good that we took better location earlier for viewing sunset. \n\nForeigners are not allowed into the temple. \nThere was one thing which i found a little absurd here, before you enter the main temple there are a few priest who actually sprinkle little water on you and put some rice on your forehead (Its only then can you enter the temple) and then  ask you to donate.   After 'the blessing' just  I was getting ready to enter temple, i realized that they barricaded the area after only 5-10 steps.  I couldnt understand the deal of the so called blessing when you just have to climb few steps and see nothing from there!\n\nIn same complex  Batu Bolong temple on rock which  has erosion at end. I could see some adventurous person going at base to picture sunset view from hole created by sea water erosion.\n\nThis is best temple I've seen in Bali. Enjoyed the crowd and evening. (3) I loved visiting this temple beside the sea. Our guide gave us lots of information about this unique temple which is located on top of a ± 300m2 rock which is separated from the main land. During high tide it would seem as though this rock floats on the sea surface.\nThe grounds are quite beautiful as were the many Balinese people all dressed in there beautiful clothes to pray.\nTanah Lot Temple can be reached directly on foot at low tide. Many tourists take advantage of the location of Tanah Lot to capture the sunset moment. Apparantly at low tide, on some rock loopholes around Tanah Lot temple there are some snakes with black and white stripes skin and purified by local people. Balinese believe that the snakes belonged to the God and acts as a guardian of Tanah Lot Temple. just below the Tanah Lot Temple are freshwater springs and it appear at low tide.We did not see any snakes but must admit did not look very long as i don't like snakes and just enjoyed the sea and listening to the tides.\nAs a tourist destination, the Tanah Lot Temple has very good facilities and infrastructure. We enjoyed a meal at a restaurant and there is also a buffet style restaurant which looked plentiful and good value too. There are some art shops that offer a variety of Bali souvenirs also available along the main road to the location of Tanah Lot.\nIn order to provide additional entertainment for the tourists, some attractions are shown by the local people. Among them are: Kecak dance performance at evening, large snakes (non venomous snake species) and bats that can be used to take pictures and capture the moment at this place.\nI was intrigued watching the blessings ceremonies of local people and enjoyed the whole ambience of calmness and happiness and peacefulness away from the crowds. (4) This temple is one Bali's most famous and always a beautiful place to watch the sunset, however I find the perfect time to come is early morning when the light is soft and shining beautifully on Tanah Lot, the surfers are out and the place far less crowded. (5) Have been to Tanah Lot several times over the last 25 years. This time we went at sunset which would have been beautiful except for the clouds. \nThere is a great coffee shop up the hill where you can buy the cat poo coffee and pat the Lewak cats. They also have a pet bat. (6) The road leading up to Tanah Lot is beautiful though it was insanely narrow, considering the massive amount of traffic that goes to Tanah Lot everyday. Most of the time, both sides of the road were lined with beautiful paddy field dotted with dummy caretakers aka orang-orang. It has been years since I’ve last seen orang-orang in the middle of paddy field, hence it was quite a nostalgic sight.\nOnce you reached Tanah Lot, the first thing that you will see is the many stalls lining up the walkway to Tanah Lot. At this point, I already had enough with the locals pestering me left and right trying to get every pennies out of me. To think that I need to walk through 800 meters of people pestering me from all directions possible, I just think that it would be the longest 800 meters of my life. But surprisingly, they don’t. I even step into one the stalls to see the things that they were selling, and the girl mending it was just smiled at me, and then look down back to his cellphone. Well, that was a surprise. And, turned out that all the things sold were very reasonably-priced. So, they don’t even have to call out for customers as the people are willingly to come to them. And, I remember buying a very beautiful painting at only RM12. The cheapest that I have encountered so far. It might not be from a well-known artists, but I don’t think it mattered that much. Also, I sort of felt like walking through a mini zoo somehow. Here, they were people bringing out luwak for display, there, a guy with a parrot that can talk, that side, a bunch of man carrying an albino python, this side, a boy with a monkey that can do tricks… it was fascinating to see all that.\nAnd finally, there it is, the sacred Tanah Lot. Well, it looks exactly like what you will see in the travel brochures all over Bali. What you didn’t see in the brochure is, the hordes of tourists scattering around it. When we were there it was just an hour before sunset, so the crowds are basically those that want to enjoy the sunset. So, if you want to see the sunset and walk over the seabed when the tide is out, this is the best time to come. But, if you want to avoid the crowd, do it first thing in the morning. The only thing with coming during the morning is that, the tide was in, and the path was under water, so, you cant walk to the temple. But again, even when the tide is out, the temple is not opened for public. So, you are not losing anything. \nOn a lighter note, Pura Tanah Lot (aka Tanah Lot Temple) is a temple that was meant for sea goddess. Hence, its dramatic location at the coast. Pura Tanah Lot is one of the three most important sea temples. It is said that each of the sea temples was intended to be within sight of the next, so they formed a chain along Bali’s Southwestern Coast. From Pura Tanah Lot you can see the clifftop site of Pura Uluwatu far to the south, and Pura at Negara far to the north. But apparently, from Tanah Lot itself, what you may just see is from one vendor to the next, or from one restaurant to next. To be able to see the other two sea temples? It was totally out of question. (7) Im trully amazed with the spectacular view at tanah lot. Place to go and really nice view. U wont regret to come here. (8) We enjoyed visiting the Tanah Lot temple. The grounds around the temple were very lush, with plenty of areas for children to run. Would love to see this temple when the sea was rough. (9) What a great chance to be able to visit the famous Tanah Lot Temple. We arrived around late afternoon and there were a lot of tourists and also devotees at thre temple. \n\nThe street on the way to the temple is packed full with stalls selling various Balinese souvenirs. The prices are quite cheap. \n\nQuite a bit of a walk from the bus parking to the temple located on a cliff surrounded by the sea. During low tide when we visited, you can walk to the temple. However only devotees are allowed into the temple proper. (10) Teally nice temple, restaurants beside the temple is quite good and affordable. Sunset in Tanah Lot is amazing, an unmisssable place in Bali ! (11) I enjoyed sightseeing around Tanah Lot, however a lot of tourists were present. Thus, making it hard for me to fully immerse myself into the experience. Other than that, it is a lovely temple, one of my favourites from Bali! (12) I have always wanted to visit Tanah Lot, and it was as beautiful as i thought it would be. We were there late in the afternoon the tide was out and you could just walk around it, stunning, but very busy. (13) After traveling most of Bali one of the last things for us to see was this temple. We were staying in Nusa Dua and taxis were around 300,000 for a trip to see the temple. I am so glad we decided not to peruse this. Luckily we had hired a mo-ped for 24 hours and decided as we had the mo-ped we would take a trip to see the temple ( one hours drive). When we arrived we were slightly disappointed, there isn't really much to see apart from nice scenery and views of the ocean and the small temple. Personally Tanah Lot had a lot more to offer than this temple and would highly recommended Tanah Lot. Personally I would not pay the fees to see this temple but if you have your own transport like we did it is nice to visit just to see. (14) As the headline says, Tanah Lot is a must-see, gorgeous right-on-the-sea temple which anyone should want to see once in his or her life. Watching sunset here is gorgeous, but of course, you will have to share the view with hundreds of other tourists -of which you and I make part of, fair enough. \n\nBe aware that the sunset takes place not by the main temple, but rather at the big rock on the right side. Pick a seat in the grass and be there around 6:15 pm, you won't regret it. Oh well, just take note that walking down to the temple will take you through a maze of touristy shops and restaurants- the price to pay for one of Bali's most photographed sights. (15) We went here for two days so we could enjoy the whole site. We slept at Hotel Natya Hotel Tanah Lot. A cosy hotel whit large lodges, a wonderful big bathroom, a wonderful swimmingpool and lovely management. It's just a few steps from the main road whit all its shops and just a quarter walking to the Temple and the pard. Lovely place to stay. (16) We went to Tanah Lot New Years Day and first of all the traffic getting there was horrible, but thank heavens we have a good local driver. When we got there we had to park in the back of beyond due to the massive crowd. We were hoping to be there for the sunset, but once we got inside the park area we realised we could not possible stay. First of all the crowds were horrible, but the absolute WORST part was the trash everywhere. People had been eating all over the park and then just left the trash where they had been and walked away. It was filthy, REALLY filthy. So sad to see at a religious site. We did see the temple from a distance - looked beautiful, but really everything else was bad so we decided not to wait for the sunset as we wanted to get out of the parking lot ahead of the crowd. If I return to Bali, I will try to go back on a day that is NOT a public holiday! (17) We were go to tanah lot tample bali with my buddy to see sunset there...\nIt was to much people but we enjoied it much..the tample is so amazing tample in the ocean and also beautyfull sun set...\nWe were have no much time to staied there but we will come back one day to anjoy there..\nAnd also i saw many baliness peaple \nCome to offering on that tample use baliness clout...we love bali and tample (18) Our visit to Tanah Lot Temple was extremely disappointing. We travelled over an hour to get there and instead of the peace and calmness one would expect to find at a temple during sunset, we were greeted with hundreds of tourists and people trying to sell us something every few metres. \n\nThe authenticity and beauty of this temple (which you cannot enter, somewhat understandably) and location is totally ruined by the over-crowding and the ridiculous number of traders around the area. \n\nI would not recommend a trip here. (19) Bali is known for the beaches it has, but on exploring I got to know that it was famous for all the scenic architectures as well.\n\nTanah Lot is a temple that's situated right in the coast of the ocean.\nThe best thing about the place is you get to visit the temple as well as enjoy the beauty of the nature. You can feel the cold breeze coming from the ocean.\nIt literally helps you take away all your stress just being there... (20) Tanah Lot is located on a rock into the sea. Depending on the tide you can walk out to the temple. We went there for sunset and there are several good spots to enjoy this. You can walk up the hill on the right hand side before going down towards the beach/temple - here you find good viewing platforms. If you would like see the sun setting behind the temple you walk down to the beach and if the tide allows it try to walk a few hundred meters along the beach to the left of the temple - that will bring you to a perfect location for the sunset. (21) Some places, with all their magic and spiritual power, have just become such tourist traps , with herds of Chinese bus loads ..that the beauty n serenity n magic it has is just violated. \n\nDrive to the PanPacific Hotel, have a coffee or a meal at the Deli ..and you have a perfect uninterrupted view across to Tanah Lot , plus the serenity of the greenways .. (22) Tanah Lot is considered one of the most sacred temples in Bali. You should only go in the evening during low tide as if you go during high tide you will not be able to walk down to the rocks and be closer to the temple. Sunset is the best time to go and it is breathtakingly beautiful. We were fortunate enough to be there on the night of Odalan Kumingan and experienced the locals worshiping and taking their offerings to the temple. It was an amazing experience and we sat on the rocks just watching and drinking in all the culture. (23) Good palace in the world\nMany temple in Tanah Lot Bali Beach\nGood architecture in here. \n\nMany tourists in the Tanah Lot Temple \nGood locotion Hot days today. But the people very happy in this palace. \n\nI love Tanah Lot Bali (24) There are a lot of stalls selling many similar items on the way down to Tanah Lot but we just walked directly down to the beach as we are not so into them. Tanah Lot is beautiful and although most people go there at sunset, we were there during the day and it was lovely to visit. Options while you are there include paying a donation and see the holy snakes in a cave by the temple and/or paying a donation to wash and drink the holy water and be blessed. A very beautiful place. (25) So this is an important hindu temple in Bali... but like many temple you can not actually visit the temple. Just the surroundings. And tanah lot is not that special.\n\nMaybe with the aunrise it is more of a special place. But during the day it is just a cliff with a temple you cant visit surrounded by thousand stalls that want to sell stuff. It is visited by hundreds at the same time so it is also very crowded (26) I visited Tanah Lot last easter with my sister. The market was just a lot of the same stuff over and over. I would not trust the money exchange there. The people on the stalls were very pushy. Having to fend off sales people made enjoying the Temple scenery difficult. (27) Went on an evening tour to Tanah Lot Temple to watch the sunset and enjoy a seafood meal looking out to sea was very impressed and it was not very expensive but this place is a big tourist attraction and gets really busy every day so expect to see lots of people there. (28) We went to Tanah Lot after a day at Echo beach for the sunset. It is a beautiful must see temple. I would definitely not miss it. (29) The Tanah Lot sacred place is one of my best experience so far. \nIt s a view of thousand words.... you can t miss this place if you are in Bali. Taxi drivers are very helpful and they are happy to take you there for a reasonable price. (30) Tanah Lot Temple Bali Is A Must See Attraction...This Beautiful Temple Is Accompanied By Breathtaking Ocean Views..Restaurant Facilities Offer Simular Views...Traditional Dance Exhibition...Many Amazing Photo Opportunities And Personal Interaction With Local Identities...Easy To Access.... (31) The Temple Pura Tanah Lot is on a rock out in the ocean. It is very different, very attractive on a sunny day with a cafe overlooking it. You can go down to it if you wish, and it has holy spring water inside the cave. We were there at low tide which I think would be preferable. (32) No trip to Bali is complete without a visit to Tanah Lot. Visit during sunset, the views are mesmerizing. It can get really crowded then. You cannot enter the temple complex, but views are better from the nearby black sand beach. (33) Instead of waiting with the masses at sunset, we chose to visit Tanah Lot during the day. There is a minor fee to enter, and there are hundreds of souvenir shops once you pass the gates. The temple is only accessible during low tide, and when the water is low enough, visitors can cross over to be blessed with the holy water that runs through the temple. There is no access inside of the temple but the areas available to visitors allow for lots of pictures and great scenery. There is currently a bit of construction going on beside the temple, but it is definitely worth a visit! (34) I went to Tanah Lot to view the sunset. Wow! What a scene. It was a bit crowded but you can't miss the beauty of the sunset. Feels good to walk in the black sands and look around at the temple. I also did a bit of shopping in the market outside of Tanah Lot. Got a lil crazy there...lol. they have beautiful hand made dresses...perfect for gifts for family and friends (35) Tanah lot is a beautiful place and temple near from the sea. The best view at this place when the sea receding, because u can walk to spring water accross tidal limit. At here u can buy handycraft too. (36) After 5 trips to Bali, we decided to visit the Tanah Lot temple for the first time.... and I'm glad we did.\n\nSpectacular scenery, unique location... a very spiritual experience overall.\n\nGreat place to watch the sunset too.\n\nHighly recommended!!! (37) The rain was closing in and this site had to be speedily visited. Again tourists were plentiful making photography a matter of patience. The pagoda style sanctuary is ideally set. It is not an easy site to appreciate holistically and form a clear view of Hindhu practice. The Buddhist feature on the landward side is an interesting feature. Toilets, shops and refreshments are all available. (38) To begin with our driver took us to the cliff top restaurant which overlooked (what we thought) an impressive rock temple, we sat ordered a small Bintang, admired the 180 degree view and ordered some dinner. Dinner was a reasonable price (70k) but 70k for a BINGTAG unbelievable! We then ventured around the gardens, past some vendors and brought another bingtag 25k (that's more like it) then Tanah lot appeared. What a sight.. Yes, it was busy, yes, it was crowded, but hey it was impressive. Unfortunately there was no sunset due to cloud cover but fun exploring the rock pools and just to admire.. (39) Tanah Lot Temple is a actually one of many coastal temples that guard the coast of Bali. It's location and design, however, have made it one of the most photographed temples in Bali, and an enormously popular tourist attraction.\nEven so, there are many visitors who are there for religious rather than touristy reasons, all day long and particularly at sunrise and sunset. \nA small town of gift kiosks exists to accommodate the crowds. You can be photographed (for a fee) with large boa-constrictor type snakes which I believe are supposed to resemble the mythical sea snakes that are supposed to guard the temple. \nWere it not for the beauty of the temple and its setting, this is one spot I would recommend avoiding. But it really is unique and wonderful, and not to be duplicated anywhere else. (40) Tanah Lot temple is situated in the western part of Bali. It is around 1 hour drive from Kuta. It is situated on the rock in the sea. Looks like an island, but is connected. Tourists can walk to the temple for a fee. (41) We arrived early hoping to get an uninterrupted photo opportunity at Tanah Lot. However due to many Tourist buses having the same idea we ventured into the Pan Pacific Golf Resort next door.\nTurned out to be a fantastic idea. Peaceful away from the multitudes of on lookers.\nWe sat high on the grassy cliffs over looking Tanah Lot Temple with a majestic view of sun set.\nWe also had dinner at a local Tanah Lot cliff Warung facing the ocean.\nGreat service and food. \nAs the local Warungs accept cash only I recommend you take out cash from the ATM's near the car park prior to climbing the cliffs. \nIt's a bit of a climb down with only romantic lighting. (42) Tanah Lot Temple is a 16th Century temple on rocks of the beach and is spectacular at sunset. But, we decided to go at midday as we heard there are huge crowds at sunset. \nWe loved the markets there including the snake and owl encounter. \nThere were fixed price shops which suits me as I am hopeless at bartering.\nThe temple is awesome to see from the beach and the hillside. But, when we walked over to the temple, we had to pay to cleanse our faces and walk up the stone steps BUT the temple itself is off limits. I can understand why but it would've been to nice to be told this beforehand. (43) Dont forget to read the history of Tanah Lot.I like it. Watching sunset is wonderful from here. In the day time it is so hot. Go there in the early morning. In the day time it so difficult to visit this wonderful place. I think here is the most warm place of Bali. Good shoping places there. No expensive like other touristic places in other countries. (44) Tanah Lot is in such a pretty setting right on its own little piece of land just off the shore in Bali. We visited this area on a hot sunny day and enjoyed it very much. The grounds surrounding the temple area are lovely and clean and the ocean views are amazing . While here we were approached by 4 young school teenagers who asked us questions in English as to where we came from and why we were here and how long we would be in Bali. They recorded our answers and posed for photos...all for a school assignment. It was enjoyable talking to them. The area was busy with tourists. We were there during high tide . The entrance fee is 60000 Rupiahs each adult . There are lots of shopping \ booths \" if you choose to do some shopping as well." (45) Tanah Lot temple is dedicated to Sea God & definitely a good place to watch sun set. \nNo monkey menace here in comparison to Uluwatu temple - so people enjoy visiting the place in peace.\nWe wanted to visit top of the temple for better view. The approach is through winding staircase. For climbing stairs, one needs to offer prayers & donation (10 K per person), but to our dismay, after climbing 20 odd steps, we found gates are locked - and no one informs you about this. So avoid falling in trap of local priests to pay for climbing up.\nThere’s a cafeteria towards west side of the temple which offers awesome view of Indian Ocean overlooking a beautifully maintained garden.\nIf you want good pics, go early as it is very crowded all day. (46) We visited Tanah Lot Temple in the afternoon and it was very sunny, very touristy.\nThe temple itself is quite beautiful but that is where all the good things end. If you find yourself in the area, would recommend visiting it once to cross this one off your list. Definitely not going back. (47) Tanah Lot is one of the most visited, sacred sites on earth. It is beautiful and worth going late in the afternoon for a sunset dinner at one of the many small cafe's along the cliff edge. There is a small entry fee and markets and restaurants inside the gates. Yes the markets are busy, but they are one of the cheapest you will find in Bali. There are amenities at hand, some free, look for them and some for a fee 3000 idr. We were there from 3 til 6:30pm or so including dinner and sunset. Take a camera and spending money. (48) Tanah Lot means \Land [sic: in the] Sea\" in the Balinese language. Located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Denpasar, the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide." (49) Tanah Lot Temple was recommended by my driver as a must visit sacred place. It was well worth the hour or so drive, such a beautiful spot and a must visit (50) Tanah Lot Temple is one signuture places on Bali. So you have probably already seen a lot of pictures. Truth to be told I was expencting a bit more but it was still really nice. My stay there \destroyed\" other tourists that wanted to take pictures with me ( instead of with the temple) and that was quite annoying after a while. But this place should be on your list of places to visit while visiting Bali" (51) This is a temple landmark made famous by the fact that the sunset when standing at certain point looking out toward the Tanah Lot tample was fabulous.\n\nThe drive to Tanah Lot was long and we had to maneuver against several small roads that are jammed pack with motorbike traffic. For a short distance, it took us over 2 hours to get from Denpasar to the place. \n\nWhen we were there, the tide was receding, and so we were able to walk over to the temple. Once there, you received the blessing from the Hindu priests and then would be allowed to walk up to the stairs of the temple.\n\nWe stayed around to take some pictures, but didn't stick around for the sunset viewing (some of my groups were getting tired and the weather was hot and humid). (52) We stayed in the temple complex so went early morning. Although we didn't get there in any rush we did still beat the majority of the tourists. Tanah Lot translates to \Land in the Sea\" due to the temple sitting on an offshore rock and that lends to why it's considered such a beautiful temple. When we visited the tide was out, which allowed us to walk right up the temple. A little warning that when the tide is out the floor can be quite slippy so tread carefully." (53) Tanah Lot is one of the landmark in Bali. It offers a very nice view of the cliff with wavering wave. \nPlan the visit when there’s no tide so you can walk down and cross ‘the sea’ to visit the temple...\nIn this place you can also have a selfie with a phyton (extra fee) if you wish as well as buying some nice souvenirs. (54) I headed to Tanah Lot temple with a group of friends looking to be there about an hour before sunset.\n\nIt took close to 45mins from where we were staying in Seminyak to have a car take us out there.\n\nAccess was easy and you could buy your tickets for entry in the car at the main gate. 60,000 Rupiah (about $6 AUD) - well worth it.\n\nVery busy place and very much a tourist hot spot, although at the same time not overcrowded.\n\nYou are greeted with a huge tourist market and plenty of options for eateries. We ended up eating Naty’s just next to the supermarket and had a great meal (cheap meal) before heading towards the temple.\n\nAfter leaving the tourist shop area you reach the beach and temple which is just amazing. Beautiful scenery and rocky outcrops with stunning views as the sun went down.\n\nWe lined up for the holy water experience and learnt a lot about the temple itself. Amazing how it came to be - but I’ll leave\nthat for you to learn on your visit.\n\nUnfortunately we couldn’t walk up to the top of the rock temple... you are not allowed to which was a bit of a shame but also understandable being such an important landmark.\n\nThere is a bar at the top of the cliffs where you can watch the sun go down and experience this beautiful place.\n\nDo yourself a favour and experience this wonderful piece of Bali culture. (55) Tanah lot was a very beautiful and scenic place to walk around. It cost 60.000rp for adult entry which I thought was a bit expensive, but once inside many of the restaurants are still reasonably priced. Definitely wear sunscreen and pack a hat if you go as there is a fair bit of footpath without shade around the area! (56) Tanah Lot brings joy and peace in mind when you visit it. You can see the roaring sea and beauty of nature here. Plan to spend one hour and enjoy the beautiful views of the sea from multiple sides of the place. Some people tend not to visit this place thinking that it is just a temple. However, it is not the temple you are visiting, it is place you are visiting. (57) We have traveled many times to Tanah Lot to watch the sun set it is the most beautiful place to visit, the markets are very good there love visiting Tanah Lot (58) The only unique thing about Tanah Lot is its location on a rock but from the coast you don't actually get to see much of it and at high tide you cannot cross over... You will find plenty of temples on Bali and in Indonesia which are nicer than this one. Not worth a visit as the entrance fee is higher than everywhere else (60.000 compared to usually around 10.000) and it is extremely crowded. (59) We visited tanah lot on a blustery day. The weather made the setting of this temple built on a rocky island even more dramatic. We were still able to cross through the water and receive a blessing. Moments later the wind and rain kicked the surf up too high for people to cross. Most people recommend sunset which I'm sure is beautiful. Do bring umbrellas or rain ponchos if rain is in the forecast as the temple grounds are expansive and exposed to the elements. (60) Tanah Lot is famous as a Sun set view point. We were informed about traffic situation after Sun set and decided to go during day.\n\nWhat we saw at Noon itself was amazing- beautiful setting; just as you find in Wall papers. Nicely landscaped gardens.\n\nMost of the souvenir shops at this spot are FIXED price shops, but to our surprise we found the rates very reasonable. \n\nYou have couple of options for Non veg food while we could get few pure veg options at Gloria's. \n\nFree wi-fi is available.
