(1) A beautiful lonely temple on a small island in a beautiful coastal location. I think everyone who goes to Bali should visit this, and evidently most do.\n\nI'd try and get there either early or late in the day to try and avoid the busloads of tourists.
(2) We spent about 1hr here.plenty of car parking.you can take some great photos here.you can walk out to the temple when the tide is out.lots of places to buy things and places to eat and drink.has toilets in several places.but some places hard to get to in a wheelchair.have seen better dut ok.
(3) There's a lot of people flocking to the area around of temple to see sunset, but still I managed to find a very good place to see sunset. Waves are high which adds a lot of beauty to the spot. Highly recommended for anyone loving sunset.
(4) This is a must go temple if you are in Bali. The scenery is fantastic, make sure you are here before the sunset!
(5) Took a trip like a must but its a turn off by the shops selling souveiners. Can the authority do away with some Anyway some goods are replicated.A more serene walk down to a hly site would be much better n soulful.Being a muslim l respect other religion but really l think they shd think about it.Its a living n likelihood but a site prob near but not the beautiful walk down.Keep bldgs traditional n rustic A charm of Bali!
(6) First, you have to pay a special entrance fee just to get into the surrounding village. Then you have to take care you keep the ticket as you are several times checked by local lazy patrol calling you on microphone when you are just walking the street. Before you are able to see the temple, you need to go through thousands of tourist shops selling garbage (\I love Bali\" stuff) and refuse annoying sellers that are calling you every 30 seconds. At the end, you are not allowed to enter any of the temples, so that you can only take picture from outside. And the worst part - after 8PM the place becomes a ghost town. All shops and restaurants close. Do never book a hotel to stay overnight nearby, totally waste of time."
(7) Worth a visit \n\n2000 per bike entry \n30,000 per person entry \n50,000 fire show\n\nnice tranquil area and grass land, staff present on the beach to help get to the temple (due to have to walk through waves) \n\nmassive mini town/market inside \n\ngood for sunset shot, needs to work on care for the animals in there
(8) The result will always be different depending the tide, but it is very nice to watch the sunset there. Been in one bar up on the cliff which was nearly empty to watch sunset, with some beautiful pictures. Drinks prices were correct. Temple is small, but stroll around the cliffs to see nice scenery. Of course, if you are not praying to that religion you cannot enter the temple.
(9) Its gorgeous .. and yes ...we too went for the sunset. Dont get annoyed by the shop keepers and vendors. They too are simply trying to make a living. \n\nEnjoy the large temple area and take it the breathless views! And capture memories of heavenly Bali!
(10) Very recommended place. There are shopping stall, restaurant and breathtaking view. Come early if you want to shopping. Then put all your shopping bag in the car and go for sunset view. But the place is crowded with people. I will come back here to try the restaurant beside the cliff. It is a temple so please respect the nature here.
(11) It is a temple in a lake and it is famous because the temple is depicted on the 50,000 bank note. But it is not a 'must see' attraction.
(12) We visited here with our experienced tour guide who gave us a great deal of insight into the Temple. A great experience and a happy memory to take with us. Our tour guide was fantastic and gave us far more insight into this Temple than we would have had if not used this company who can be trusted: Suweca Bali Tour Mobile : +62-8123-6111-705 (24 hours) Email: suwec4@gmail.com .
(13) It is a beautiful traditional temple, though I have to say it is extremely touristic, which takes away from the charisma of the place, but I guess it is the case from most well known sites. You will find yourself dropped on a parking with a lot of touristic buses and the parc that surrounds the temples looks a little like an attraction park at times with its souvenir shops and coffees. But you cant take the beauty away from that site, it is truly as beautiful as you will see on the pictures (though you may expect the pagoda to be bigger than what they actually are). I would still say it's worth the visit though and the access is very easy and friendly. And it is definitely an interesting place to ask your guides and learn more about the religions and customs in Bali .
(14) This 16th century temple is beautiful no matter which part of the day or year you decide to visit. The power of nature, huge waves breaking against the rocks; the tides.. All this makes the temple look really impressive. The entire area with two other smaller temples is worth visiting. It is quite crowded, though. And of course- lots of tradesmen ;)
(15) We were able to go during low tide and we're lucky enough to be able to walk to the temple where we were blessed by the priests. Due to the temple being quite small inside, visitors are not allowed inside the actual temple but you can still feel the peacefulness of the temple by listening to the waves from the Indian Ocean. Just be prepared for the large crowds.
(16) This temple is a must see if in Bali, but what is often not told, even at the gate when you pay the entrance fee, is that the tide has an influence on you being able to visit the temple on the small island. There are lots of small shops around and amazingly we found cold water at a stall cheaper than in the supermarkets.
(17) Best views are from the cliff side looking up at the temple. Inside the temple its self is not that spectacular however the views of the ocean and temple from the cliff's are amazing. Definitely walk as far as you can walk either side of the temple it is worth it. Timing is everything, you want to get the views at sunset however if you are too late the traffic will make you miss it. We got there at about 4:30 and got straight through, we left just before the actual sunset but the views were still amazing. As we left we saw the huge lines of cars who were probably going to miss it. Entrance was 20,000 IDR and included a sarong
(18) One of the most important temple in Bali \nYou need To go their early like 7 or 8 am max to avoid people \nYou can get bénédiction there but i recommend appropriate sarung even though many people don t do...\nThere is a nice coffee at the end with no people
(19) loved it the moment i saw it...very beautiful temple...my kids loved it too...clicked some amazing pic's ... must see if u r a hindu and visiting Bali.
(20) Nice temple, but to go there is a bit hard :) Not because rocks or sea, because of shops and sellers everywhere :) \nMust see it!
(21) You have to do this when in Bali as its landmark. Lots of tourists and very hot. Can't get into temple itself
(22) The temple is very nice and the view of it when the water is surrounding' it is amazing \nThe only cons I have is the crowd on the site. We were not the only tourists there
(23) I visited the temple and was sorely disappointed. \nI've read here multiple people stating that there is an entry fee however no one approached me regarding this and I walked straight through which was a bonus. Upon seeing what was on offer I'm glad I didn't pay anything.\nThe \beach\" that the temple is set upon is disgusting - rubbish everywhere, rubbish in the small caverns which mostly had old men who looked like homeless folk laying there sleeping or smoking.\nTourists obviously are to be expected but it is extremely dangerous to have hundreds of people clambering over slippery rocks taking selfies. I was bumped multiple times, at one point almost being pushed off the side by oblivious tourists.\nThe (flea) market is unimpressive - store after store of the exact same items, highly marked up to get that tourist dollar..\nHonestly, take a photo of the temple from a distance - that way you get a beautiful photo without a backdrop of hundreds of people milling around in it, and go see something else. \nVery unimpressed."
(24) I was lucky enough to witness prayer, wedding and pink sunset.\nThe temple opens daily from 7 a.m to 7:00 p.m. with no admission fees.\nThe ocean is so beautiful and the views are incredible.\nThe only thing I hated in Bali that you can't get inside their temples yet exteriors are beautiful.
(25) The popularity of this temple is well-deserved. I was expecting an Indiana Jones jungle temple environment, but the grounds are expansive and well-manicured with whimsical accents. In fact, it was more like a park with a temple compound plopped on it. The temple's location on a lake at a higher elevation also makes it relatively cooler and more comfortable to visit.\n\nI visited during a day prone to rain, so the crowds complained about in other reviews were non-existent, although there were still a fair amount of visitors. I also visited before lunch so that also may have played a role in keeping the crowds down. The cloudy day even enhanced my visit, since I could actually see the swirls of mist here and there around the lake and the mountains and sort of set a mood to my photographs. There was no need to wear a sarong here since we weren't actually walking on temple grounds. My guide told me many families, including his, would also come up for the day to relax and picnic on the grounds. This must be on sunnier days, I'm thinking.\n\nI was able to observe a local ceremony that took place while visiting. My guide surmised a family was there to bring home some holy water. They were accompanied by a group of musicians.\n\nI also learned another reason why Ulun Danu Beratan is so popular . . . an iconic image of it is printed on the Indonesian 50K rupiah banknote. So, the many Indonesians visiting Bali come to see the actual temple that's depicted on their money.
(26) One of the first sites my fiancee and I visited. One of my favourite temples to visit in Bali with waterfront landscapes
(27) You either really like it or you don't. Pros: Its beautiful and have many photo opportunities. Cons: overcrowded, too commercialized, rude asian tourists groups trying to usher others away so they can take their group photos! There is plenty of other beautiful and spiritual temples to visit that don't get the advertising speel that this place gets.
(28) Must see temple!!! When it's low tide you can walk out to the temple where holy water and Hindu prayers are taken place and when walking along the beach you can see the holy snakes in the cave. I suggest to see temple close to sunset time since the views are wonderful from the cliffs. There plenty of shopping and good places to eat while visiting the temple. There a lot to see to plan on spending at least a few hours! Must see sunset while you visit the temple!!'
(29) This place is just off Bali and is one of the seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. has been part of the Balinese mythology for years now. The rock cliff shows the weathering of perhaps centuries and makes for an excellent view. There are said to be snakes at the base of the temple that protect it from evil. Like all other temples in Bali, the actual shrine area is off limits for those who do not live on the island.\n\nGo to the beach that's at the right hand side of the complex if the tide is not too high. The access is via these steep stairs that have seen years of weathering. It is a lovely little spot for views of the ocean. Watch out for the rocks that outline the tiny beach. This beach spot was what i liked best as it took attention away from the highly commercialized access to the complex.
(30) The only part we liked is the drive up the mountains, the water was super low so the pictures are not of this 'water temple' but of a mud temple. Of course still pretty ish on the lake but so many people, wasps, cartoon character statues everywhere - did not have the Bali feel. Too far, and costs too much for what it is. I wouldn't recommend there are far better temples to see that are closer. See other reviews for other temple feedback, private car is how to go.
(31) Temple splashed by the sea in the sw part of the island. The place is best for sunset photography with the entire sky and sea in front with a wonderful temple fore drop.the temple is attributed to a 16th century preist who meditated here.
(32) The temple itself is beautiful and located at a wonderful spot át and ín the sea. It's a shame you actually cannot visit the temple itself. Apart from that, it is a bit disappointing to see so many people being very busy with their smartphones and selfiesticks, instead of 'being there' and enjoy the experience. We were even asked to move aside because some tourists wanted to take a picture right at the spot we were sitting...\nAt the base of the temple there's a holy water spring. People were queuing and we were also invited to drink some water, but we also noticed how people were requested to make a donation. That seemed odd and didn't feel right (having visited Tirta Empul the day before).\nNevertheless a must see.
(33) This temple was truly beautiful. Grounds are well maintained and you are actually allowed inside the temple unlike a lot of others in Bali that we have been to. Well worth seeing.
(34) Amazing view of the cliffs & ocean here but a little surprised/disappointed to find out there's no entry to the temple itself.
(35) We have been here many times for sutset. Getr there early enough to checkout the markets available inside the temple area and on the outside. If you get a clear day the sunset is perfect. We had drinks overlooking Tanah Lot and warched the sunset. Make sure you walk down and get up close - tides allowing.\n\nHighly recommend - great cultural experiance
(36) We visit the temple today, it was very windy and crowded. We couldn't take a picture without at least 10 other people in it. Maybe a line would be better to let people in so it never gets to crowded. But if you know the history behind it, you have must seen it once
(37) the temple is located near the beach, were only temple is still there remaining things all washed out by the sea... the sea water is too salty but the water coming out from the temple is so pure. its a must visit place in bali
(38) Was a cool trip to the temple it is definitely a unique part of the world. The view from the cliff is awesome and inside the temple is full of beautiful flora and sculptures. Could be a little bit more cleanly however.
(39) I rate this as one of the more beautiful temples to visit. It is an amazing setting with good shopping. It is VERY commercial but I think that is inevitable at these kind of attractions.
(40) temple is beautifull on the sea, prety wild though.bussy with tourist mostly local.\nat sunset time you find perfect view, while relax with drink beer on the warung near bay.
(41) I think this is touted as one of the \must-see\" places in Bali, but because of this, it is also very crowded. It's a beautiful attraction, but it is also very touristy. The walkway to the temple has a ton of shops around, which was nice during the midday heat, as I was able to purchase a cold bottle of water. I was also able to buy an ear of roasted corn as a snack, which turned out to be pretty good. The only draw back was the heat and humidity when I went (end of november), supposedly the rainy season, but it hadn't been raining so it was just an extended end of summer. I saw a couple taking wedding photos there, they must have been roasting."
(42) I came here toward the end of the day and it was getting dark. The clouds were hanging on the mountain across the lake. The temples with its unique architectural structures stood in a postcard perfect setting. It's worth the drive from Ubud.
(43) Public temple at a beautiful scenery at the sea. 60K Rupiah entrance fee per person. Nice garden. During low tide you can walk close and around the temple which is a must see in Bali, impressively located on the top of cliffs by the ocean.
(44) My family & I had a wonderful arvo at Temple lot temple. My 5 yo got to touch & hold snakes which make his day. The view was absolutely amazing even through it was raining slightly. The sun setting was perfect! Highly recommend this place
(45) The views of the cliffs are pretty cool, though are blocked by an unattractive cement wall. The temple itself isn't really all that special compared to many others. It's 50k per person to enter, so just barely worth it if you're passing by and have nothing else to do. Though avoid mid day as the sun is too strong and it gets really hot walking along the wall.
(46) We visited in October, which is the end of the dry season... meaning the lakes were extremely low. Also, the temples are much smaller in real life than we originally thought. Nevertheless, it's an incredible drive up through the hills - many rice paddies along the way from Ubud - and nearby a colorful fruit and vegetable market. Many bright flowers in the botanical gardens, and overall a serene nature-filled visit.
(47) Visited this temple during a Hindu ceremony so it was very busy with the locals, the scenery is beautiful an there is lots to see and do
(48) This is hindu god shiva temple which is a historic monument and is inside the lagoon. You need to have low tide to go into outer area of temple. If there is high tide then you need to walk through knee deep water. Opposite to temple you can see sacred snake, lord shiva's companion. Sea is beautifully foaming due to rocks around. Sunset view is amazing. It is must see attractions. It side temple you can shop and eat alot.
(49) This is a 'must see' site. It is loaded with tourist. It is not typical Balinese Temple because it is not easy to get to and has little local visitations. It is old and important but is missing the offerings and prayerful attendance found elsewhere.
(50) Most temples are \seen one, seen them all\". This is a must visit in Bali, its a beautiful place set in the mountains on a lake. When we visited we spent the night in Bedugul so we could visit the temple early. Highly recommended visit."
(51) A must visit when you are in Bali.. A temple with mountain and lake as background is breathtaking scene .. Visit around morning to have the best view .. Took a photo there with local photographer as it is cheap but the result was great, only Rp 15.000 per photo .. Kids love the surrounding as they have a small playground too ..\nA very recommended temple to visit !!!
(52) We arrived before the mad rush which was a joy. The stalls were mainly shut (9.30ish) and therefore there was no hassle. We had been advised to walk towards the temple and then walk left towards the golf course, this proved to be great advice giving a great view of the island temple.
(53) even tough the weather hot, aggressive monkeys and crowded place but we really LOVE this temple. It is huge and long area so you wont find any difficult to take snap though many people. I think it is normal to be crowded as one of the most famous temple in Bali. we did dance performance, it was great. Some scene were monotone but at the end the fire attraction was just amazing.\n.
(54) The only reason I have to say its overhyped is the crowd, and that I'm a Indian with lot many much more beautiful temple around. Otherwise, its a must visit place.
(55) Amongst the must visit places in bali , this temple is located in hilly area.\nIt is surrounded by a lake and the view from temple is simply mesmerizing. The structure of temple provides ample uniqueness to it ,Can easily spend a good time here and capture some beautiful views.
(56) If you go as early as possible, without the crowds this place has a good vibe. Especially the small Hindu grotto in the back corner. Even better is to book a local guide in advance and get into the surrounding countryside and villages. Stunning rice fields and a wealth of nature and local life. We did a 3 hour hike with Kadek Sudirta (search him up on Facebook). Awesome guide and straight up nice guy. Real Bali is alive and well in the East!
(57) The temple and its premises were very beautiful. It was a quick walk-through, although I'm sure you could take more time than we did. I did feel slightly pressured to buy something and to provide a high tip to the guide, but all in all it was worth going.
(58) It was not sunny when we visited this typical Balinese temple but still, surrounded by mist, it was magical. It's a pity that it started raining and we just stayed 30 min.
(59) Must see attraction, very busy lots of restaraunt cliff side to enjoy the view & temple amazing we were on tour which didn't allow enough time to see whole area e.g markets etc need plenty of time here just to relax & take in view
(60) We spent two hours in the taxi to get to the temple, due to the droughts not quite submerged more over hovering on its foundation. I don't want to sound critical but if you are of spiritual tendency then not reallyg the place to be, if how ever you are on the tourist track then you must cross this one off. Had a wonderful buffet style lunch in the restaurant opposite next to the mosque, very cheap and great food, lots of coaches arrive and seem to pilgrimage to this establishment, worth a munch before entering. So crossed over the road and entered, OK,so it did what it said on the tin, nothing more nothing less. Great for picture opportunities and both my sons and the wife all were asked to join in with random visitors pictures, must be the western look they were interested in, it beggars believe, I was imaging what the conversation would be once these people returned home and placed the pictures on there mantle pieces, but any way very sweet. So all in all a complete tourist spot, nothing spiritual, a mammoth tiring drive and all in all worth a visit.
