(1) To experience the power of such a beautiful mountain is pure a pleasure of the wonders of this earth.Take the time and enjoy.

(2) We are fit and experienced hikers in our early sixties but still found this climb quite challenging and the toughest we've done. It's a short hike in terms of time of around two hours but the steepness and the extremely rocky surface makes it quite a challenge. Almost the entire route is covered with loose volcanic rock which is very slippery and needs great care especially when descending. Tour operators should give people more information about the nature of this climb and the fitness required. They all say it is easy to get the business and of course there are motor cycles waiting to take you to the top from the halfway point for a fee of course which would have been so boring and counter productive! We saw many people struggling even those much younger than us. About two hundred people or more climb each morning and they are mostly young people in a hurry to get to the top without much patience for those who do it at a slower pace. With so many people climbing in the dark we lost our guides until we got to the halfway point and found them again. She was most helpful with good advice and assistance through the toughest parts of the climb and the descent. We were given torches for the climb which was in darkness but it would have been much better to have head torches so you have both hands free for the scramble up the mountain. We were fortunate that sunrise and views from the top were magnificent and well worth the effort but special care is needed to climb and descend this mountain safely.

(3) Such a gorgeous sunrise trek up to Mount Batur! I booked via Wa +6281337443553 with Bali Sunrise Trekking Tours in Ubud with a guide and a couple.\nThe trek easy but the I found on the way up some it extremely difficult and needed help form our guide, luckily I have experiences guide Ari, he lead us up till we are made it on time before sun comes up.\nThere were clouds for a while but when the sun come up all cloud move to the north side, it was quite cold on the top, so I personally would recommended to wear pants and a jumper for when you reach the top, the view well worth it when the sun came through.\nOur guide Ari extremely amazing, he young man with millions knowledgeable about culture and nature, especially about volcano, he explain experiences single things what we saw, he helpful and friendly. So everyone should not doubt to hire him as your local guide trek up to Batur volcano. Be careful of the monkeys as they open your bags and will jump on you if you have food in your hands .\nWe were stayed in Ubud, so had to be picked up at 2:30am and the drive back to the hotel at 10.45 am after visiting traditional fabric Coffee Luwak. Highly recommend this experience to anyone that’s thinking about it.\nMy Tips:\nPack proper shoes for this hike and warm jacket exptreamly recommended!\nBring enough water in case your guide prepare less water drinking\nSleep enough before ahead.

(4) This place is around a 1hr + drive to Kintamani from say the down town Kuta . On the way you can visit factories making Stone Statutes & Silver Jewellery which they say is more important in their social being than Gold. Also Painting Factories etc and then proceed to the Mount.\n\nWe were recommended The Sari Mountain View Restaurant which virtually the last on the road and has I think the finest views along with abundance of tables in the restaurant on the roof top. The place has a Veg. Indian Food on the Gr. Level and the lower level the roof with a Non.Veg Buffet which is amazing, sumptuous and very reasonably priced. You can hire a Taxi for a full day from Klook and they are well priced, hire it for the day and visit the other places like the factories, Mount Batur, Ubud famous for the Bebeko a Duck dish.\n\nIt is fascinating to see a Volcano which is marked as Active but has not erupted for may be 2 decades. Their is a beautiful lake next to the Mount and looks beautiful You can have a trekking trip also and see the sunrise from the Mount Batur.\n\nI would positively recommend that a trip to this place is a wonderful outing.

(5) I enlisted Esnawan's help again for the Mount Batur trek, after my enjoyable time with him when i went trekking at Mount Bromo last September. Esnawan was right on time and waited for us at our villa in Seminyak at 2.00am.\n\nOnce we were out of Seminyak, we drove towards the direction of Denpasar before taking the Jalan A. Yani route up north. It was a refreshing change compared to the day time when there are no traffic on the road now. We carry on going north but leaning east and drove into Batubulan Village which is situated in Gianyar Regency. Batubulan Village is an exclusive village in Bali which most people who live here have the abilities to carve out beautiful stone sculptures. According to the ancient myth, the sculpture making skill was god given and this ability was later on pass down generations. Lining up along both sides of the narrow streets are rows of buddha, ganesha and goddess sculptures. It was an hour and a half since we started off from Seminyak as we finally pass through Batubulan Village and then Ubud. I reckon we should be able to reach the starting point of our Mount Batur trek in another 45 minutes or less.\n\nThe combination of the earthy scent in the night breeze and the occasional whiff of citrus smell from the mandarin oranges trees in the hills seems to have invigorated me as i noticed a huge signboard upfront with the word Kintamani. It is 4.15am and we have finally arrived at the home of Mount Batur. After meeting up with a local guide, we proceeded with the trek. Out of nowhere, a little girl with a small backpack started tagging along. She initiated some conversation but left shortly after failing to convince us from buying a bottle of coke. My and i look spirited despite the darkness in the woods, it was quite a straight forward trek especially with the lights illuminating from the torch lights which the other trekkers are holding.\n\nThe entire duration of the trek takes approximately 1 hour and 45minutes with half the time on gentle slope and another half the time on steep slope. One bad thing about walking in the dark is that you never know how far you been walking, every trees or pathway look pretty much the same. I suppose when the gentle slope ended after walking for some time and when what stands right in front of you looks like a wall of rock, you start to realise the magnitude of the climb. Raising our head, we saw a roll of lights streaming vertically up the mountain and this was when one of our female friend started freaking out. After the last 20 mintues of silence from her which i take it that she was trying to conserve her energy, she suddenly exclaimed loudly, \I am going to wait here for you all, i don't think i can climb further\".\n\nAfter some pacifying and reassuring from Esnawan which i am very sure he is good at it, we carry on with our climb. After the climb, it was almost 6.00 am when we finally reached our viewing point. Despite the cold air, my whole body was totally wet in my own perspiration.\n\nThe sunrise in the morning, it was a fleeting one. A sudden burst of light in the sky but was covered by a thick veil of fog. We waited patiently in anticipation for the fog to clear and out came a stunning deep purple overcast covering the twilight blue hue in the sky. With the fiery orange glow slowly rising past the horizon, a sudden gush of fog blanket the entire sky again. Like a beauty, flirting with her every moves, the fog linger and shift with the breeze offering the excited crowd glimpses of the gorgeous landscape. With the land slowly warming up and the sun dissipated the fog, what stood right in front of us was Mount Abang and Batur Lake. Beyond that was the imposing Mount Rijani which sits shrouded by heavy clouds in the distance on Lombok island. Just by staring at Mount Rijani from afar gives me the chill but i am silently nursing the thought of scaling it one day.\n\nOn the overall, the climb is very straight forward and despite the initial shock you might get when you see the steep slope rising up the mountain, it is really just a pretty simple climb. Imagine climbing stairs continuously for 45 minutes. It really all boils down to the perseverance in climbing in the dark. If you worked out frequently, you wouldn't feel much when you make it to the top. If you don't, the most you will get is some aching in the thighs or the calves. Bring along some water to hydrate while climbing. I will recommend that you get yourself a head touch instead of a handheld torch if you are someone who like to keep your hands free to support yourself when scaling the mountain. I have done a few trekking at different places and usually you will need a local guide, the reason is to safeguard their livelihood and also to ensure that you don't get hurt. I can say that of so many places, the local guide at Mount Batur is pretty professional and i was even made to filled up a survey form to evaluate their performance after the trek.\n\nMost people do the sunrise trek like us by engaging an agent. The package usually include transportation from your place of lodging to Mount Batur, the cost of the local guide, entrance fee to Mount Batur, some simple breakfast on the mountain and the transportation back to your place of lodging. I engaged Esnawan for the trek since i have done another trek with him before at Mount Bromo, off Surabaya. That speaks how trustworthy he is to me. You can reach him at nathantour(dot)blogspot(dot)com and i am sure you wouldn't feel disappointed.\n\nGo forth, scale Mount Batur and enjoy the gorgeous sunrise."

(6) If you are physically fit this is something that you should attempt. The climb has two phases where it pushes you to the extreme and you feel like quitting. But when you get to the top it is worth every sinew which you strained.\n\nWe took a guide and while we did read about people who had climbed without one (and indeed we saw people climb without a guide), would advise you to take a guide. The challenge is climbing in the dark and unless you are experienced trekker a helping hand at some points. While the guides charge different amounts (which can be negotiated) for different levels, you need the assistance only till the first crater.\n\nIt is cold at the top and so please make us that you carry warm clothing (specially if you a from a climate that has only three seasons - hot, hotter, hottest) preferably something that has hood which can cover your ears. Also carry a litre of water per person.\n\nThe climb down is in bright light and less difficult as long as you ensure to step carefully\navoiding the loose small stones.

(7) We had a great view from one of the lookout points and could clearly see Mount Batur and the large lake. Nice photo opportunity.\nMany stalls to shop from at the lookout point too.
(8) Sunrise hike is a must for any semi fit Bali visitor. Try to stay overnight in the area (not Batur Lakeside huts) so you can wake up a bit later. Our guide was passionate about the Volcano and we loved our day with him. After the walk try the hotsprings on the lake which a nice but a bit expensive at rp150,000 to enter the swimming area.\nWe will remember the sunrise with our guide and eggs cooked with Dragons breath on the mountain a long time.

(9) Heard a lot about tourist traps, bitter experiences, etc. at mount Batur and lake Batur! But the temptation to see an active volcano up-close and personal was overwhelming! And anyway, we had a senior citizen with us and weren't planning to climb the mountain. Hired a car with a driver for the whole day and started slow - plan was to get through Ubud; see the rice terraces; travel further north-west and see the Mount Batur and Lake Batur from the vantage location of Kintamani. Glad we have taken this highland trip - thoroughly enjoyed the ride, spent some time in Ubud, saw the rice terraces there, again enjoyed the ride uphill althrough to Kintamani. Enjoyed view of Majestic Mount Batur from highlands of Kintamani; saw dark trails of magma flow from its last eruption in mid-90s; was unlucky not to see any smokes coming out of the volcano (they say every few days there are emission of smokes - couldn't verify though). Anyway, even if there were smokes, we wouldn't have known because of engulfing clouds around the peak of the mountain. The lake is also beautiful - one can go down the road near the lake. And to know that the lake is a caldera lake part of the volcano and is up to 60-70 meter deep - it really amazes!\nWe wanted to take a boat ride on the lake, but our driver discouraged us saying that the boat people are not good - anyway, I leave it on individual's discretion.\nOne tip: All the restaurants staff are annoying at Kintamani and they offer you a very good view from their observation decks. Dont fall for it, you can find good observation points if you drive a little further. After we thought that we have had enough of Mount Batur, we had lunch at a pretty good restaurant named Kintamani - on our own - NO strings attached! Btw, its a bit chilly up there - taking light warm cloths is not bad idea at all.

(10) Through a friend, we learned of a large Bali tour company called Suta Tours that can customize tours to fit your needs. Having read of persons who had combined sunrise trekking of Batur with rafting and coffee plantation visit for a looooooong day, our group of 4 felt up to the task and arranged with Suta to offer all three activities same day, one immediately following the other. We were picked up from our Kuta Resort at 1:30 AM for the drive to Batur trailhead start . ( Note Ubud is closer to Batur so on hindsight, we would have had a bit more rest had we begun in Ubud rather than Kuta) Although on arrival there were already small groups assembled and preparing to make the trek, it was the first wave ( plus off season) so we were not slowed up by anyone as we made the ascent with our guide “ Enny”. We brought our own headlamps , preferable to torches AKA flashlights. The trek up is challenging and there were persons who were clearly struggling. Some tour companies even set age limits because of this but Suta had no problem with our ages ( 2 of us are definitely in the “ senior” yet fit category) . It was cloudy at the top ( nature and weather after all are unpredictabie) so no lava spews were obvious but the views were still magnificent! Enny prepared us boiled eggs in a volcanic crevice(!!!) and also banana sandwiches plus hot cocoa. From there, we headed to a coffee plantation where we got to try the famed Luwak coffee ( poop!) as well as some milder, sweeter coffees and teas.We were happy that the live luwak we saw were NOT in tiny cages as some reviewers have mentioned and appeared to not being showing signs of stress in their enclosure. From there, we were taken to the STEEP staircase that took us down to the water for our whitewater rafting experience. I am emphasizing the steepness of the stairs down and that there are dozens as one person had to be arm escorted down starting at the halfway point. I have no idea what they did for her at the conclusion of the rafting when one had to climb MORE stairs up although not as many. If you have any kind of knee issues or ambulation problem in general, this option is not for you! The rafting was fun but at 90 minutes and after a looong day, the deliberate smashing into other rafts by the guides resulting in everyone getting soaked was irritating and unwelcoming to me BUT I was clearly in the minority with that opinion. I had mistakenly believed at Class 2 and 3 it would be more “ calm” and scenery soaking. ( the scenery evokes images of Jurassic Park) Once brought back to the rafting company headquarters, we feasted on a yummy, included buffet , much needed after al the physical challenges of the day. We were delivered back to our resort after almost 15 hours(!!!!), a very tired but immensely satisfied group. At $90 US a person, we felt this to be an incredible deal. Not only did we have fun but we felt safe throughout all of our activities.

(11) but I made it.. and guess what- it was totally worth it! My villa was on the other side of the island, which meant I had to get up 1 AM to start driving. We arrived to the mountain around 3 AM and started climbing. At first it was very cold but once you start climbing it gets very hot. It took around 2 hours to get up and probably were the worst hours in my life. However, I made it and I loved the view! I didn't have any breakfast, just took loads of pics and enjoyed the view. After the sunrise the rays were reflecting on the clouds just beneath us- it literally took my breath away!
(12) We went on a tour to see the mountain and the lake underneath...\nWe had lunch at one of the restaurants there. The food was good, and the view is breath taking... worth the visit.

(13) I booked my tour on Viator for the Sunrise Trek through the local Como Bali Tour company. They are nothing more than a bunch of thieves who care absolutely nothing about you or your safety.\n\nI got picked up at my hotel at 2am and taken to a filthy restaurant for fly infested pancakes and black coffee. Don’t even think about using the bathrooms as I almost vomited from how disgusting they were.\n\nThen the rain started pouring. They charge you 50.000 IDR to rent a coat and another 50.000 IDR for a poncho. The rain was so bad along with the lightening and thunder that I decided not to go. They insisted it was safe and that it wasn’t slippery and there was no thunder but thankfully I’m not blind or deaf and could see they would say anything to you so you would do the trek.\n\nI refused. I then got price gouged to take the same taxi that drove me there back to my hotel which was more expensive than the actual tour itself.\n\nDon’t do it. They look at foreigners as nothing more than dollar signs and so not care about you, your safety or your experience.

(14) I am not a natural trekker so when I was woken up at 2am to go and climb this mountain by my husband, i was not a bit pleased. Although I was not happy, I did not want to miss out on the experience.\nOur driver took us to the base where we met our guide who gave us torches.\nWrap up warm as it is very cold at that time and in that location and wear proper walking boots. The trek is easy to start of with but gets tricky as it gets rocky and narrowier and more tiring. We met our guides sister on the way who helped us up the rocky part, the atmosphere is great going up as there are lots of other people doing the trek.\nOnce you get to the top the views are amazing and waking up early, and the hard work going up, is all forgotten.\nI did this with my husband and 2 teenage kids and the experience and the views at the top with sunrise are amazing. The guide also made us breakfast up at the top.\nYou cannot go to Bali without doing this!!
(15) A good hike, and well worth getting to the top for the view. Sunrise is the most popular time. Highly recommend Adi Putra at Voyagin-the best in the business!

(16) Was a solo traveller and was assigned 1 guide (1:1 ratio) from my accommodation (triangle house at the base of Mount Batur). The view at the summit was breathtaking and amazing. The beautiful view of the sunrise is dependent on the weather. During my hike, the sky was clear blue and we are above the sea of cloud. My guide told me that some days, it can be very foggy that they could not see the sunrise. The hike can be tiring but manageable, as long as you take rest stops along the way.\n\nDuring my hike, my guide told me that it was colder than usual. My 1 windbreaker was not enough at the summit and it was freezing. There are locals renting blanket so you can rent one if you are really freezing. Otherwise, the hike in the cold was okay as you are generating body heat.\n\nI opt for the long hike (to visit 2 carters and a cave) and there is this one part of the hike that can be dangerous - loose black sand and the steep slope. You will need to be careful and be on your butt during the climb down so you don't fall. My guide was really helpful by holding my hand.\n\nIf you think that you have overcome the physical challenge during the hike up - you are wrong. You will need to be careful during the hike down as there are loose sands and you can slip and fall. Those with knee problem will have to be extra careful during this hike down. For an average person, the hike down was not tiring but need to be careful.\n\nAll in all, it was a great experience and I highly recommend to anyone who want to take up the challenge and see the beautiful sunrise at the summit!

(17) Overview:\nIt is more of a large hill than a mountain... similar to Perisher/Thredbo mountains in Australia.\nIt is a trek on a well used trail.\nThere are at least 3 lookout points with cool views.\nI carried about 2.5L of water and drank most of it.\nI used converse-esque style shoes since I had nothing else (not my 1st choice but do-able)\nLightweight windbreaker jacket was supplied and is a must if you stop moving (eg: at the top)\nTorch is an absolute must if you are doing the sunrise climb\nThere is a coffee 'shop' at the summit\nBe at least of average fitness\n\nGriefs:\n1stly, the cost for a guide?\nThe guide set us back USD 45 per person. I know thats over the going rate (friend booked very last minute) but seriously? It doesn't matter how many he's taking up, he's still doing the same amount of work. He's going to go if its 2 people or 10 people... we had 7 in our party... 7x45 is A LOT in Bali.\n\n2ndly, the need for a guide?\nThe first 1/3 of the trail can be seen as a well used 4WD trail. The other 2/3s is extremely well worn with a noticable path. I can see some ill prepared people getting lost in the dark (if they want to see the sunrise), but everyone? You wouldn't hire a guide to go on a bushwalking trail locally and this is pretty much the same thing but up a hill. In broad daylight you have no chance of getting lost.

(18) Do not opt for travel agents, take a scooter and go to the parking place where you get ticket and guide there itself. I would like to suggest Kuku as a guide who can help you to trek. Need some good shoes and gloves for safety. Cotton or muffler to cover the head would be great. Do not carry any baggage. Incline is very bad when you go up. Rocks and mud on the way. Very slippery while you climb up. Take some egg and sandwich from your room itself. On batur they charge too much for breakfast. Coffee would be 30000 idr. Agents would charge 1400000 for same package. They have a pickup and drop and breakfast with guide. If you go in scooter following maps you can park in parking area which is a ground zero. If you take taxi and go it would cost 3,00,000 idr. They will wait till you come back. If you want to book a guide from ground zero then call Kuku 083119310620. If he is not there then he will arrange other guide. They get 70000 from travel agents. So you can pay 2,00,000 idr cause they save most of your cost by taking you from ground zero. You cant go without a local guide. They are very much required. Carry water. There are no washrooms on the way nor at the top. Take a tripod for time lapse video which is very much required for sunrise. There are places to sit n watch the sunrise. They give mat to sit. Head strap with led would be great as you can use your both hands for trekking. (I am Not expert in English)

(19) We took the longer route (8 hours up & 8 hours down) and we were not ready for the level of difficulty. We go on leisure hikes in Californi, but this hike/climb kicked our behinds. If you do the longer route you need to be physically ready. You will need plenty of water, snacks, good hiking boots and lots of stamina. Hiking during the night was an unique experience. Now, what made it all while was the view once you are in the summit. I never seen anything like this and it made the hike worth while.
(20) The sunrise is incredible, so do that. But make sure you get a tour of the other craters too. The trekking is a little more challenging, but the views and the experience are worth it.
(21) If you are brave and if you have a lot of energy you should go there, about 2/3 hours of climbing. I was a bit disappointed when I did it because once on the top there were ceremonies and I couldn’t visit anything ... more over it is very dirty along the way up ... by the way bring a sarong with you !!!
(22) I did the overnight climb from Besakih Temple to arrive at sunrise. Fairly challenging going up through the night but the 5 1/2 hours gave time for plenty of breaks on the way up. I had arrived the day before so missed two nights sleep in three with this being the second of the two missed. By the time sunrise came around I was tired but the stunning views made it all worthwhile. Coming down was 5 hours of torture for my feet and my big toes ended up bruised and blistered. Wear good fitting hiking shoes and thick socks and lace up snugly to try to avoid blisters. My hiking boots rubbed on my ankles and blistered there too. Stunning views coming down too so takes your mind off it.\nThe guide was OK but I had two Kiwi's with me and we all felt he left us to make our own way at many points. The hike was tough and a bit of guidance on some of the trickier sections for footholds would have been nice.\nBali Sunrise tours were reasonably priced and it worked out to around £50 for me to do this so well worth it. Don't expect rescue teams and helicopters if you fall so go prepared and take care.\nHad food and water included on the hike and a lunch after the climb at a nice restaurant with good views.\nTip would be avoid the coffee before the climb, it is disgusting, have one before you leave your hotel if you need one.

(23) I strongly advise that you arrange for this trek with some agency. I tried it with Bali Eco Cycling (http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Attraction_Review-g297701-d2167573-Reviews-Bali_Eco_Cycling_Bali_Budaya_Tours-Ubud_Bali.html).\nThey will generally arranged for you to be picked up around mid night.\nPreparation:\n1) Try not to indulge in tiring activities a day before\n2) Try to get some good sleep before they pick you up or you can sleep while you are being transported to\n\nThe hike will start at 3AM in morning. A few things you must carry with you:\n1) Camera- I was carrying my DSLR, so its important that you carry a bag for your camera and lenses. Camera hanging from your neck can be really uncomfortable\n\n2) Carry a mosquito lotion- The trek starts at 3AM so you will need it to avoid mosquito bites while you move up\n\n3) Get a few wet Wipes and a sanitizer- helps your wipe of seat and cleanse your hands\n\n4) Check with your touring agency if they offer breakfast and coffee etc. If not they do carry some banana, bread-butter etc, some eggs and coffee too\n\n5) Carry a torch\n\n6) Carry some water. Hopefully your tour agency should provide water. Check with them.\n\nSome Dos and Don'ts\n\n1) Wear some warm clothes and if possible wear them in layers which you can shed while you climb. Better to carry a small backpack in which you can put your clothes etc\n\n2) Don't wear slippers. Better to get a sports/running/trekking shoes\n\n3) Don't wear jeans or tight clothes.. makes it difficult to move across bushes and stones\n\nOn your trek:\n\nTry to walk a bit faster during initial trek, it would be easier and not much steep. Moreover once you see the light, you will feel like taking a picture at every 10 mtrs (which slows you down) :-)\n\nTry to move faster to reach there before sunrise.. You don't wanna miss it... Its the best one you will see...\n\nAfter sunrise, You will have an option of moving further up. I will suggest that you must do it. Its bit more difficult esp with the sun but its worth the view you have up there.\n\nThough there is no fee for the attraction but you may end up paying for the guide and tour agency...
(24) Visit mount Batur and Lake to Enjoy Natural of Caldera, you should try to reach in morning and swimm at Hot Spring, and enjoyd the lunch in one of the restaurants opposite to the mountain to enjoy views of Mount Batur, most if the restaurant are buffet with a local food.
(25) To start, go early... like seriously the crowds are extreme and I get it. It was magical place but the hike itself is quite treacherous!! Now not everyone at the top goes down (1 blessing) most turn around once they have snapped their shot and go back up... but if you're going all the way to the bottom, go early in the day!\n\n** PLLLLLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, don't do this in your flip flops or your cute little instagram worthy wedges. We saw you, you looked cute but hell its not worth falling off a cliff for!\n\nI would advise against this if you have any fear of heights. One of the girls in our party was and the trip back up was even harder than the way down. We even picked up an extra in our group when a girl started to panic and her friends left her. The path is super narrow (passing is not always an option). its not flat and well \groomed\", this is Bali not Hawaii! I mean I was impressed with the handrails they had half the way down, until they stopped and the original ones that don't hold a fly started again. \n\nI 100% think it was worth it but as long as you know what you are signing up for, but I don't think it would be worth the another trip back down. I don't feel like testing out my medical insurance. \n\nNow the beach, the beach is absolutely gorgeous and I'm a strong swimmer but even that was deceiving. So if you aren't a confident swimmer, don't go in... again your on vacation stay happy and safe!"

(26) We did this tour from Ubud (can't remember which company - there are loads on offer). You should absolutely haggle with the operators on the price. Go picked up from right outside our hotel which was great. At 03.00 I the morning which was no so great but if you want to make sunset you have to do it! Had a stop en route for a very tiny pancake and a cup of tea. Then reached the base camp, met our guide and started the walk along with about 600 other people. You can just see an endless stream of little torches winding up the mountain. The hike is moderately hard in parts but really not too bad. Got to the top just before sunrise and found a spot that was not too crowded to see the sun rise. The sun rise was absolutely beautiful and very scenic. We also got a small breakfast consisting of a boiled egg a piece of bread some jam and a banana. So make sure you bring a little extra food if you have an appetite. Also bring layers because it is cold and windy at the top whilst you're watching the sun rise. We walked down via a slightly different route avoiding the people on motorbikes offering to take you back down for an extra fee.\n\nOverall verdict; blatant tourist trap, overpriced but probably still worth doing

(27) Climbing to the summit of Mount Agung was an amazing experience! It is NOT an easy climb. You will be rock climbing at times. You have to be mentally and physically fit. If you are afraid of heights I do not recommend it. You need proper hiking boots and a walking stick. You need to wear layers as it gets quite cold at the top of the summit. Based on the reviews, we decided to use Wayan Guides and it was an excellent choice. Our guides name was Batok and he was incredible. He spoke excellent English, he knew the trail very well (been hiking the trail since he was 11), he was super friendly, motivating and patient. I cannot recommend him enough!\nwayan.idguides@gmail.com +6285237250607

(28) It was a long drive from on legian and once you start approaching it,you start gaining altitude and the weather becomes chilly. There are awesome orange orchards on both sides of the road. But the view of the mountain along with the lake and the clouds is just breathtaking.Worth the long ride.Must do in Bali.

(29) We had buffet lunch over looking the amazing Kintamani and Lake Batur, cooling temperature and fresh air were just bonuses, the scenery was indescribable, best to take photos for remembrance.

(30) Visit was in the afternoon. It was just like a site seeing. Like any other hill spot. You may not enjoy much unless take a trek

(31) early start and some hard stoney trails to navigate but well worth the journey, fantastic views at daybreak, a real bonding moment for family and .\nif youre worried about fitness levels, take your time, plenty of people going at an easy pace. i bombed up with my son, much to the guides chagrin, but hey there are plenty of people ahead to follow. you wont be alone!!\nYoure more likely to die on the drive there if our driver was anything to go by...

(32) We arranged a pickup from our hotel through email. We met our guide at base of the volcano in the darkness. He provided us with torches and 2 bottles of water each!\n\nWe set off about 3 am! I found the hike fairly tough, but we took lots of breaks along the way. You can choose 2 routes one is stepper and more tricky. At this crossway point there is a toilet. We went for the easier route.\n\nI have a pretty bad fear of heights! But this didn't scare me. There was no steep edges as you climbed. Parts had loose ground which made finding your footing tricky. There is a base where you can get coffee and eggs from your guide. We pushed through to get to the very top. It takes about 30 minutes more, it's definitely worth it! This final stretch is mostly on old ash which tricky to walk on. But again you are not near the edge so I didn't find it scary. My legs almost gave up on this final bit! Our guide Ketut who was amazing for the entire trek really pushed me to keep going at that point! I can't explain how great he was!\n\nDespite all our breaks we made it to the top on schedule to see the sunrise. The views were unbelievable! You can also see where the volcano last erupted!\n\nThe exhilaration of getting to the top really helped with climbing down and it was much easier than climbing it!\n\nThis was the best of part of my trip to Bali and I honestly cannot recommend it enough!\n

(33) From ubud a 90 minute drive with the motorcycle, then a 3 hour hike in the middle of the night. But then, then you will see the most beautifull view ever. You can see the coast lines around Bali from the top of the agung at 3200 metres. A beautifull sunset from above the clous with the crater of the volcano gasping in your back. This is a must do on Bali.
(34) Highly recommend. We climbed with 3 children one is a 5 years old.\nWe love everything about it. Such a wonderful view from the top and such a magical space to enjoy and share with family ❤️
(35) This is a must do when in Bali!! I enjoyed the hike so much and the view during sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. Probably the most beautiful thing i have ever seen. Dont miss this!!
(36) Well worth getting up at 03:00 hrs. Guides are Brilliant. You need good walking shoes and a headlight and your camera.

(37) Mount Batur is the second active volcanoes in Bali which is specialized for easy to medium track lovers. The track is not so hard which could be reached in 1,5 to 2 hours. Most trekkers could reach the summit easily and would be rewarded by a beautiful sunrise (even though it was cloudy so the sun not perfectly saw but it was such a great experience) with Mount Abang and Batur lake in the background.
(38) In my opinion Batur wasn't that extraordinary. It was a nice little climb to the crater, took me about an hour.\nI did it by day and there was no one else on the mountain, but it was cloudy when I reached the summit at around 10. And it is entirely possible to do it without a guide. Not sure about the sunrise trek, but during the day no one stopped me or checked anything. The trail was a bit hard to find, but as long as you keep going uphill eventually you'll hit the crater. Wasn't hard to do at all. Good little volcano to start with before attempting Agung or Rinjani

(39) We (2 girl and I) did the climbing in April. We get up at 2am and started at 3 am, in the midst of the night. It was heavy stuff but some guides helped us. It was really breathtaking the moment the sun came up at 6am and the moon still at the other side.
(40) Started the hike at around 3 Am. Hiked for about 2 hours to watch the most beautiful sunrise ever. The changes in colors, just watching the sun come out like a ring of fire is incredible. So worth it. Proper shoes and clothing required. Gets really cold on the top, freezing cold.\n\nGoing down is a bit harder as it gets steep and slippery. Do wear proper gears.\n\nUsually recommended to have a guide and lights..
(41) I have very awful experience with Mount Batur's guys being agressive, rude and really dangerous for tourists. Please, help to make this place free from this mafia that is well known to anyone having an \independent\" walk in the area: boycott travelling here and make petitions against Association of Mount Batur Trekking Guide!"

(42) There are already a lot of reviews on G. Agung but I would just like to emphasise on a few points such as the following:-\n1) Train for it! Not an average hike/climb. Tougher than Mt Kinabalu. Similar to G. Api (Pinnacles) in Miri, Sarawak in terms of difficulty.\n2) good pair of trekking Shoes essential! Trekking Poles highly recommended.\n3) warm jacket essential while waiting for sunrise at summit or crater rim. Temperature about 5 Celsius\n4) if you have gloves, bring it! Helps a great deal for the ascent after 2200 Metres\n5) beware of loose pebbles and wet or moss covered track/stones.\n6) get a good guide. I engaged Wayan Widuysa (his contact can be obtained from some earlier post) if not drop me a note...\n7) Focus and be alert at all times during climb especially near the top. Some very steep and extremely deep drops.\n8) Enjoy the scenery! 👍\n\nThere are 3 options to climb G.Agung:-\n1) to Crater rim (slightly shy of summit) via pura pasar Agung about 8 hours up down;\n2) to summit via pura pasar Agung alternative route. About 10 hours up down; or\n3) to summit via pura Besakih. About 14 hours up down..!??\n\nI was in Bali for a relaxing holiday, so I took option 1. But let me tell you that it is in no way termed easy and relaxing hike. Compared to the latter options, it may be the easiest though. Still very challenging and scenic. So make your choices based on your ability and goals.\n\nIn conclusion, respect the Mountain and you will be granted a marvellous climbing experience! Cheers!!!

(43) I travelled alone to Bali over a long weekend to simply get away from it all and this was to be the highlight of my trip. I didn't want the hassle of organising anything so made the arrangements with my hotel just outside Ubud. Probably more expensive than generally advertised, but definitely hassle free - we arrived, parked up and a guid appeared and off we went. I paid 800,000rp which included transport to and from the hotel, a packed breakfast, a guide who took me by scooter a mile or so to the foot of the volcano before we began our ascent.\n\nI wore good walking boots for which I was very grateful - the climb is up loose lava in the dark and requires a fair bit of scrambling. It took me 2 hours to complete the ascent with short breaks along the way and reached the viewpoint at about 0530. I'm a reasonably fit and active late 40s and had no problems but I don't think I would recommend this for anyone who doesn't exercise regularly or has health problems.\n\nThe stars during the ascent were well worth stopping to look at (a good excuse to take a breather) and the sunrise although obscured by mist was a lovely sight. A pity it was so misty I couldn't see the crater very clearly but the views on the descent were absolutely incredible.\n\nI would say the temperature while waiting for sunrise at the viewpoint is about 15 degrees so I had a lightweight, windproof jacket and a multi-purpose headband which was more than sufficient.\n\nI had a cup of Bali coffee at the viewpoint which was delicious and very welcome but didn't have the breakfast since I was had my packed breakfast from the hotel, although my guide did bring me a piece of fried banana.

(44) one of activities like trekking of mount batur is one up the famous activities in the world. the view sunrise of mounth batur is a really amazing and good for a everybody.
(45) If you are nature lover and love to see natural beauty from the peak of the mountain surrounded by clouds has unbelievable view. But for that you have to trek so hard if you are weak at there than it cant be in your list.
(46) I really enjoyed this hike with my niece. It as a fantastic experience and I've sent many of my guests there!

(47) I have joined an organised trip but heard that many people did it on their own. For me it was easy and smoothly run but then I haven't had to do anything. Woke up and been picked up around 2 in the morning, stopped for a gorgeous pancake and coffee afterwards and then headed to the bottom of the mountain. It was absolutely chilly and pitch black, even though they provide you with a torch, (they have 1-2 extras) but they expect you to bring your own.\nThen the march starts and you meet fellow hikers, lots of them. First couple of legs are absolutely easy-peasy, you chit chat, the starry sky is beautiful and the line of the torches going up the hill is pretty cool to watch as well.\nThen when you hit the first plateau you think you are there...well, you are not, keep going! This mountain has 2 craters and you are nowhere near to the top. There will be a couple of extra plateaus where you feel you reached the summit and you haven't. Lots of people everywhere. At the end, not all of our group members made it to the 'top' but even so, the sunrise is beautiful from anywhere. The last bit is absolutely volcanic with blacks ashes, so don't wear expensive white trainers otherwise you might be disappointed.\nSecond breakfast is served at the summit...or wherever you are but be aware of the bees and the monkeys who will steal your food shamelessly. Great photo opportunities everywhere with facing the lake and the mountain, sunrise and smoking craters, monkeys and all.\n\n

(48) Mount Batur is an active volcano in north-eastern Bali and is a popular attraction. There are plenty of lookouts in and around the town of Kintamani and the views are spectacular on a clear day. Accommodation is readily available in the area to enhance your enjoyment. There is significant volcanic history in this area with Mounts Agung and Abang in close proximity with eruptions being prevalent.Visit, stay and enjoy !

(49) Amazing view up there. You should be with ok condition physically to do this hike. But it so worth it. Trip starts about 2am at your hotel and you are back about 9am.

(50) I just can't share the whole impressions of the other guys here, because the time we were there it was cloudy during almost the complete tour. Nonetheless I rate 4 Stars because the impressive views we had into the caldera and a crater while going downwards and sky was clearing up just let me imagine how amazing the top view of the sunrise has to be. You should be fit because the climbing is imo a bit exhausting.\n\nAnyway I have to say that the crew accompanying us was really helpful at any situation. We got there with Pineh trekking.\n\nJust be advised to compare the prices of the people who organize it for you (hotel etc). I have got the feeling that the locals make instant individual rates, so in our car we had three couples from three different hotels, first paid in total 60$, 2nd 1.000.000 IDR and we were on top with 100$. I don't think that the trekking team gets one rupiah more of this, there are just drivers or other people hunting for their shares, a common disgusting practice in this country.

(51) We got a guide and planned for a 4H hiking with him upfront, visiting the place it was super cool and natural. They also keep it very clean and neat. I loved this place.
(52) Doing this in the early hours of the morning was an amazing experience. Not only do you get to enjoy the hike but you also get to really hear nature. The climb itself is quite challenging and a decent level of fitness is needed to fully enjoy it but any feelings of tiredness soon disappear as soon as it becomes light and you can see what you have achieved and get a look at your surroundings.\nA couple of things to recommend- bring food as the breakfast isn't that big and bring a decent torch if you have one...
(53) I was from Ubud Palace and I rode all the way up to Mount Batur. Forget about the tour guides sending you there and just be adventurous! It's a just a ride up north to enjoy the magnificent view of Mount Batur. Along the way, there was also scenic views of terrace padi fields. Stop at these places and take a break. There was also a \kopi luak\" farm which can be explored. The coffee is very expensive though but it's worth the try. Mount Batur is a must see when you are in Bali, especially in the morning when the sun is rising."

(54) A +-7km long hike (but with 1km height difference) takes you up to the caldera of one of the high mountains on Bali. Around halfway up you get the choice for an easy or a hard trail. The easy trail was challenging at times for us, as untrained hikers, but doable. On the easy trail you can always opt for a taxi via motor-cross bike (note: the hard trail is to steep for them, no taxi there!).\nThe last 15 minutes is a steeper part on to the summit.\n\nTo share a bit of sense on the duration: We started the hike at 3:45, arrived at the summit around 5:30, stayed there for +- an hour and where back down at around 8 (thanks Fitbit).\n\nDuring the hike you'll encounter a temple and several shrines.\n\nOn the top you have a magnificent view of the island, with the 2 larger mountains acting as a beautiful backdrop to the scene.\n\nNote: During your hike you can meet people that offer you drinks, always ask the price first, and make up your mind on how much you want to give. They will offer to follow you all the way up the mountain if you're not making clear you are not going to buy anything.\n\nTips:\n- bring water.\n- good walking shoes are a must (definetly no open shoes.) A lot of sand and sharp stones. When descending a sole with a good grip is advised.\n- bring swimwear and finish this hike with a visit to the nearby natural hotsprings for your aching muscles (and a shower to wash away the black lava sand) :).\n- bring a sweater and/or windproof vest. When we visited there was a chilling wind on the summit. Bring long pants also if you're a chilly type.

(55) Climb a volcano was always on my bucket list and I think this one was a good choice. Hike wasnt really hard, about 2 hours. On the top you can see magnificent sunrise view. I didn't like only the crowd on the final part (I was before season on Bali. i can't imagine how many people hike batur during season). Highly recommend.

(56) Soooo, reading reviews before you go is a good idea. If only I had!\n\nWe did the sunrise trek, which was beautiful. And somewhat difficult. Both of us are in good shape, but the combination of pitch dark, a teeny flashlight, and middle-of-the-night sleepiness made it much more difficult that it would have been otherwise. We also had a guide who was maybe 18...maybe. Who didn't really speak English, and who was not a value-add in any way. In fact, she rather irritated my partner. But alas... I do recommend going, but there are some important things to keep in mind:\n\nThere are hundreds of people going along with you. Which is actually a cool sight in the pitch black, and less cool when you are trying to climb up / down with a bunch of young kids running around you.\n\nIf you're not in decent shape, the slightly fast pace of the trek (combined with actual rock climbing) is probably not for you.\n\nIt's cold when you begin, hot during the hike, and cold at the summit. Dress appropriately, and if you have them, wear hiking shoes. And bring sunglasses and a backpack.\n\nIf you have one, bring a headlamp. Carrying a flashlight and needing two free hands for some of the climb is a bit of a pain. And, you may want to bring your own flashlight, since the ones provided to us were terrible.\n\nLadies, you're in the bush. There are no bathrooms on the hike. And the facilities at the base are BEYOND disgusting. Bring tissues.

(57) We hired scooters in Ubud and day tripped out to the Mountain. Long but easy ride, seeing lots of countryside. Mountain View was awesome, and black lava fields really interesting. Well worth a trip.

(58) We had a wonderful experience! The hike's views are incredible & our guide, Jero Susun was absolutely the best. So patient, encouraging and sweet! He also Super friendly, knowledgeable, his English is so good I swear I thought he was American. Our driver was nice and on time, at the lodge we started at, so nice! Also important, the path to the peek wasn't crowded at all - compared to the numbers at the top! Extremely enjoyable, beautiful and fun. Definitely do this during your visit to Bali!

(59) My visit to Mt Batur and the lake below was part of a long day trip, so it was great to be able to stretch my legs and take in the view of the mountain and lake. It was a misty day over the mountain but the view was still a stunning one. The only problem were the street sellers, they are pretty aggressive and very old school Bali as they will follow you pretty much everywhere you go.

(60) Very nice place beautiful and refreshing i love it. \nBut i visit yesterday i cant see the volcano because more clound but all beautiful |
