(1) I have been told that the best time to see Tanah Lot is for the sunset, however I have heard that this can be quite chaotic as it is so busy. Well, having some time free in the morning decided to head out to Tanah Lot mid morning, it took about one hr by car but when we arrived it was magical, even though a number of large tourist buses also decided to off load their payloads of camera and selfie happy tourists. Being a keen photographer i just loved Tanah Lot. Having been here once happy to return again. Certainly worth visiting as this is one of the most famous temples in Bali.
(2) Tanah lot temple is the best place to visit in Bali. really amazing. too good for photography. had a wondeful time here.
(3) Very Good View, 4 Pura in One Locations and One Ticket Prices. Tanah Lot Temple, Pura Batu Bolong, Pura Enjung Galuh, check my photo
(4) Tanah Lot means \ Land Sea\" in the Balinese language. This stunning Temple is probably on of the most beautiful places in Bali.It is about 30 min from Denpasar, \nand if you have a chance to go for sunset it is unforgettable...Lots of vendors and \nrestaurants are expected as every tourist place.....Enjoy after all you are in Bali!"
(5) I've visited Tanah Lot a few tins now and personally I've loved it each time, I love the fact that you can go and get a blessing and have a fresh coconut and take a walk along the beach only when the tides allow you to. It's better to go in the off season as the middle of July is the start of peak season and it can get so over run with tourist that you really can't stop to appreciate what's around that's why I've been at different times of the year and find that November is the best time as far as I'm concerned.
(6) Tanah Lot is a super hyped average tourist spot. Amazing setting against the backdrop of crashing waves of Indian ocean is definitely a crowd puller but donations in the name of holy water and holy snake was a big set back. This place is often crowded and most people wait for the magnificent sunset and Kecak dance. Like most tourist spots, there are numerous shops and small food joints at the entrance.
(7) I have been to Tanah Lot when I first visited Bali. This is my 2nd and it's still as interesting. I like the rock formation, the strong waves, mystical temples and the sunset. Entrance cost IDR30k per pax which will double from next month. Highly recommended for each Bali visit.
(8) Had a great day out sightseeing around Bali - Tanah Lot Temple very nice and the markets around there great to shop. Would highly recommend our private tour driver Kadek Ibob he was a great driver, lots of knowledge and a very safe driver and very reasonably priced for the day trips out.
(9) Tanah lot is nothing special. We saw same temples before Tanah Lot, including Uluwatu, that's why it didn't impress us at all. Too many shops on the way to it. The only interesting thing in there is Luwak$)
(10) Tanah lot is really a unique temple. Make sure to be ready to have a dip and be wet if you would wish to have the full experience. Truly a picturesque area too.\n\nTip: do some shopping here - the prices are reasonable (cheaper than most of the places we went to in bali), you can bargain, and the farther away the store is from the temple the cheaper the prices ;) if you are a group, buy as a group and they will oblige you with further discount if requested
(11) The temple is nice to visit, and a tourist must see. The interesting part is, that is still daily used for ceremonies as well. Despite it being surrounded by tourists.\n\nAvoid visiting the temple with a organised tour, and go outside \tour hours\". This will assure you it is not completely crowded.\n\nFor a nice view, go through the shops, upstairs. There is a restaurant, take a drink and enjoy the view of Tanah Lot, without hundreds of people in front of you."
(12) Tanah Lot is one of my favorite temples in the world. This place is truly magical & its a must see if you visit Bali!
(13) You must experience a SUNSET at Tanah Lot temple, its busy- however the view is amazing. Places to eat and drink with market stalls if you wish to shop. We rode in by scooter, this was easier to leave once the sunset ended due to the many buses and cars.
(14) Tanah Lot is an amazing site. An incredible temple perched on a rocky outcrop that you can walk to in low tide. The site is certainly no secret, with dozens of tourist shops, and enthusiastic sellers, alongside the hundreds of visitors that were at the site quite early in the day. Still worth a visit, stay for 30-60mins.
(15) Classic little industry built up around a Tanah Lot. Wonderful temple and buildings and obviously revered. A huge attraction with many people coming and visiting for the classic selfie. With the waves crashing in, and a good day, it makes for a picture postcard setting. There is the usual selection of small shops outside and stalls inside and some restaurants at the top with great views.
(16) The Tanah Lot Temple is a must but get there early as the place is crowded. As you enter the area there are several signposts to turn right along a good path and most people do this. We did as well but at one of the viewpoints realised that we were looking in the wrong direction to see the sunset behind the temple. So we rushed back to the start and took the narrow path to the left up an incline past rows of tourist shops. At the top it flattens out and you get the picture postcard view of the temple. There are several restaurants there and we had supper with few people around us. Because of the crowds do some shopping on the way out as the traffic jam to leave is something to experience.
(17) Tanah Lot is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali , the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. It's a good point to watch sunset ,but it's a little dirty enviroment, It is the most important temple in Bali island, ,so when travel to Bali, you must go there.
(18) I think tanah lot is the best temple area, because its not only tanah lot temple there, but also some beautiful temple in that area which is also beautifull
(19) Having already visited Tanah Lot previously, my driver took me here before. Situated opposite a mosque in a mostly Muslim area, the temple sits beautifully in front of the lake. Gardens are gorgeous and there are a few retail shops but not swamped with shops. \nHighly recommend visiting here
(20) We chose to see the sunset at Tanah lot temple. So took a full day tour from Ubud with last destination Tanah lot. However we managed to reach there by five o clock , so that we did not miss the sunset.\nThumbs Up:\n1) excellent sunset view.\n2) Beautiful rocks\n3) If it interests you, one can find good street shopping on your way till the temple.\n4) Nice restaurants on top of the hill from where one can watch sunset.\n5) no dress code. No sarong was required which made it comfortable.\nThumbs down:\n1) Again one over rated tourist attraction.\n2) I saw maximum tourist foot fall here( also at Ullun danu beratan temple). Place was too much crowded.\n3) The shopping street till the sunset point is way too long. It makes the whole place commercialized.\n4) We could not enter the temple ....just were able to take holy water below the temple.\n5) Premises get closed very early. At eight the whole place got secluded.\nTip:\nIt is near from Kuta...so is advisable to take tour from Kuta or other near by regions. We took it as part of full day tour including rice terrace, ullun danu beratan temple, Taman ayun temple and one coffee plantation.\nAlso, avoid during high tides. We had a tough time reaching the base of the temple amidst full waves as it was a full moon day.\nBottom line ....over rated....set your expectation meter low.
(21) i have visited this place 2 times... this place was nice and beautiful... and always love to come for next time... even there are many up and down stairs,,,, the wonderful things u will miss to come back are the wonderful SUNSET and the cheap SHOPS,,, cheaper than some places in Bali ( i think ). and last time i came here i've got a perfect sunset i have ever seen....really romantic place and moment for sunset at Pura Tanah Lot...
(22) Tanah Lot Temple is 16th century work. it is build with rock in the sea. Beautiful view of sunset from Tanah Lot.
(23) Tanah Lot Temple is a lovely temple. Overcrowding depends upon when you go to the temple. If you plan on watching the sunset, be prepared for crowds and hawkers galore. If you would like to experience the beauty of the temple, arrive early when you can enjoy the temple.
(24) There's nothing much to do in Tanah Lot except for visiting the temple. It is hard to enjoy the beautiful view with hundreds of other people around you, so definitely avoid this place during the day and only visit in the early morning.\n\nWe stayed 3 days in hotel Natya on Tanah Lot premises as our first stop in Bali to recover from our flight. We were glad with our decision, so we could roll out of our bed at 6 (before the premises were open to public) to witness the sunrise in peace and seeing monks going up the temple.\n\nOut of curiosity and as we had seen the sunrise that morning, we also went down the temple in the afternoon to witness the sunset in the midst of the tourism craze.
(25) Here cliff with temple together very match & beautiful, best view in Bali.\nTanah Lot compare here is nothing.
(26) Sadly Tanah Lot has been lost to crass commercialism.\n\nWhen my wife and I first visited some 25 years ago it was a place of prayer and quiet reflection with handfuls of visitors.\n\nToday masses arrive by bus with little or no thought to the significance of the temple. A quick selfie opportunity, a snap with a terrified Python and then wade through the masses of shops to experience the ultimate thrill of coffee at Gloria Jean.\n\nOur analysis: This is no longer the true Bali, other temples have more to offer both culturally and more importantly spiritually.\n\nSave time and money and go elsewhere!
(27) We visited Tanah Lot temple complex during our trip to Bali. It's is great place to visit, ideally in the afternoon, but the best views are during sunset but the place is likely to be very crowded. \n\nWe kept away from buying any artefacts from there as most of the items are priced higher than their values say in Ubud market.\n\nThere are many places from where you can take great snaps of the temple and its surroundings.
(28) This been our 3rd time in Bali and Tanah Lot is one of our must visit list. Not because of the view but here is the only place in Bali you will get to bargain for cheap souvenir. I have been surveying some other place in Bali to buy souvenirs but nothing can compare the price you get here. Painting can be very cheap depends on your bargaining skills but I thought it because of the nice sellers here. Go to the art market at the back instead buying from the walking path to the temple. We had been buying quality painting from here since 2011 and the price never sky rocket. We buy 3 large painting for only IDR500K which you will get 1 painting in Kuta or Ubud area. The craft is also cheap so if you intend to buy souvenirs to bring home and you are around here, buy it here without hesitation. This place had been different since our last visit in 2013 and look more commercial which is less necessary. I like it better back in 2011 where the natural look is there. I don't need chain cafe and branded outlets here. They should preserve the natural local way which made it more Balines. The cleanliness is improved and the security do improve but most of the accessible spot now had been closed like the black sand beach and some of the best snapping pictures spot. I do have a feeling that by time this beautiful place will be too commercial and lost it attraction and natural beauty. Investors is keep on taking the Bali beauty for granted which is ironic
(29) We had been to Bali once before but didn't get to Tanah Lot. We are glad we did this time as it was worth the visit. The trip in the car to the temple was really interesting too.
(30) While Tanah Lot 'floats' on the sea, this temple is know floating on the lake. However, the time we went, we didn't see it floating as the lake area surrounding the temple was dry (due to dry weather) to the extent we were able to walk around it. Nevertheless, the view was still scenic and we did enjoyed the cooler weather here if compared to Kuta/ Denpasar. Large numbers of tourists, hence it was crowded and quite difficult to get unobstructed picture. \n\nFor younger children, there is a small playground near the exit.
(31) I made sure that we were at Tanah lot on low tide so that we could walk up to the Temple and experience it close up. we were lucky enough to be there during a ceremony and cleansed our faces with the holy water before being blessed
(32) Tanah Lot temple is very unique in the sense that it is located on an offshore rock. During high tide, the temple is completely cut off from the main island. The waves around the temple is quite strong. Nature and human endeavour are blended in harmoniously. \n\nThere is another small temple on a rock bridge just next to Tanah Lot temple, which is quite unique as well. \n\nI think this should be a must-see place for your trip to Bali.
(33) Tanah lot is a magnificent cliff temple about an hour's drive from Kuta.\n\nAbout entering there is an array of giftshops selling all kinds of snazzy and traditional souvenirs,t shirts, candles, perfumes and even spices and chocolates.Bargaining is important as vendors can set prices really high.If you find the price to be high, just move on to the next shop as the shops mostly sell the same items..Later one can find loads of little moderately priced warungs located in between the gift shops.\n\nBut now, coming to the main attraction, the temple itself is just mesmerizing. The ciff has various spots where you can click amazing pictures and admire the beauty. There has some benches and a huge lawn where families picnic and enjoy themsalves. The bathroom facilities are clean but chargeable.According to me try reaching the place early and appreciate this wonder during day time when the views are stunning and there are far less tourists.Uluwatu has a much better sunset!\n\nCons:Keeping the beauty of this place aside, lets not forget this is a prestigious hindu temple and its surely not treated as one. There are professional photographers wandering around, restaurants selling food, etc, etc.Despite being soo commercialized this should surely be on everyones Bali travel day only for its beauty!
(34) I was recommended Tanah Lot Temple by a hotel staff. \nI was incredibly unimpressed by what I saw. You pay a fee yet youre not able to enter the temple itself. I do understand that sometimes youre not able to get in temples but it would be good to know this in advance. Instead, you pay a ticket which gives you access to see the Temple from afar. \nHowever, the most disappointing thing to see is how theyve turned the place into a total mockery. Im not a religious person (I do respect and have an interest in learning about them but dont practice anything myself) and was appalled by the “Holy Snake” signs and the fake blessings being distributed to tourists for a fee. \nTruly disappointing to see. \nGoing to Tanah Lot Temple added nothing to my trip: neither did I see a gorgeous Temple (beware, google pictures can be misleading) nor did I have a cultural/learning moment. It was just a frustrating waste.
(35) Have been here before. Crowded as always. Non-balinese are not allowed in to the temple proper but at the bottom of the temple there is a cave from which a natural water springs out. You can get blessings from the priests there. A good place to view the sunset would be from the restaurants on the cliff side. Gives you a comfortable place to sit while waiting for the sunset and enjoying a pint or two. If you are keen on viewing the Kechak dance, there's a performance held at 7 pm the the Tanah Lot arena.
(36) My final destination whilst in Bali was to visit Tanah Lot temple for sunset. We arrived a tad early thus had a little time to see the things and walk around, and basically soak sweat into our clothes, was so hot his day. The temples are gorgeous, my guide says built in the 16th century, and more recently a lot of money used to save them from being lost to the sea. \n\nA lot of tourists here to see the sun setting on these temples, so be prepared for lots of traffic when venturing here. Thankfully lots of vantage points and certainly was worth the visit.
(37) Its situated near indian ocean and in high tides path might be submerged in water where as in low tides easily accessible .\n\nAmazing view.\nperfect for sunset\ncliff top restaurant for amazing view of whole tanah lot temple.
(38) Tanah lot was the most beautiful beachside location! The temple was beautiful and if you use your imagination, you can imagine how special it must be to worship in such s serene location. \nThe turnoff for us was all the people inside the actual temple gates the were trying to sell things. I could cope with the market outside but once in the more temple-y area I thought that was poor form. \nBut other than that a beautiful spot!
(39) We went through to see this temple based on recommendation from family. \n\nYou pay your money and then get directed through all the stalls to buy things. Once you enter the temple grounds there are a variety of vendors selling their bits and bobs and lined along the temple are more stalls of wares to buy along with people standing there taking photos of you to sell with a Tanah Lot border. \n\nThe temple itself is pretty and has a beautiful location. The beauty of it was ruined by the many stalls and people selling stuff.
(40) Our visit to Tanah Lot Temple at sunset was a highlight for me. I loved it!!!! We went with a local driver and he gave us all the best advantage points for photos.
(41) This is a beautiful temple in the lake, with the mountains and clouds surrounding it. It really is a picture perfect temple. It is very touristy, so be prepared to see a lot of people, but it was not over-crowded. If you're debating between this temple and Tanah Lot temple (the one in the sea), this one wins by far! Go check it out; it only costs about 30,000 IDR to get in
(42) Wonderfull view, strong culture, one of balinese landmark. The place that you must visit once travelling to bali. One things that unforgetable is sunset time at Tanah Lot!
(43) The views are decent and the location is very clean compared to the rest of Bali. However, it was the most crowded tourist destination we have seen in Bali (and that's saying something). When you are staying near Tanah Lot it is worth the visit, but if you are a bit further away (Kuta, Legian, Seminyak) then I would skip it when time is scarce. There are far better options without busloads of tourists and the +hour drive.
(44) A temple surrounded by a beautiful view! Recommend if you can visit there for a sunset. Tanah Lot is a must visit place if you are visiting Bali.
(45) Lovely and cheap little market stalls lead up to the Tanah Lot Temple which in itself is fantastic viewing. Worth the drive to see the temple and get a blessing with Holy Water and rice for a small donation. Walking across some of the sea water to get to the temple is required. There is also 2 Holy nakes to view as well. You are not able to access the entire temple due to its sacredness I believe, but still worth a look. Quite a few stairs and a little bit of walking for those who have difficulties. More time is spent on the way out as you explore the beautiful cheap little side stalls on the way back with prices happily negotiated!!
(46) We went to Tanah Lot in Afternoon. We saw sun go down, We can see very beautiful Sunset. We enjoyed our time together and take a picture together. We get perfect view for take a picture.
(47) Pura Tanah Lot is a very beautiful temple. It is ideal to see the sunset against the background of temples and Indian oceans.\n\neverything in Bali is Beautiful All.
(48) This temple is very famous among tourist destinations in Bali with spectacular view of sunset. The word of Tanah Lot is consisted of two words that are Tanah word interpreted as a reef looking like gili or isle. Lot or Lod word has meaning the sea. So Tanah Lot means the small island floating on the sea. Tanah Lot Temple is built at irregular reef plain of its angle which is only consisted of one plain yard as Jeroan. Inside the actual temple compound itself there are tiered shrines that follow the fundamental elements of Balinese design where the number of levels constructed are symbolic to the complexities of the faith. There are other formations within the area that indicate that the site is not only of great religious importance, but also maintains archaeological value. Temple nestled in the ocean has a ritual or ceremony which takes place every 6 months or 210 days. At that time all the Hindus from different areas in Bali will come to worship in peace and harmony to invoke. We missed the sunset as our driver was in a hurry and we had to leave a bit early
(49) We visited Tanah Lot in the morning before 9am and there was hardly anyone there so we had easy access to everything. It was extremely hot and there was limited shade so make sure you take an umbrella and water. There is quite a bit of walking to be done there so wear good shoes.\n\nOne of the temples was closed and will be closed for another week or so but your experience will still be the same.\n\nAt the main temple we were able to get across because of the tide however you must pay to explore further but was still a great place to take pictures and you could walk around everywhere. Make sure you look for crabs and fish in the rock pools 😊 \n\nWe had a guide with us who explained a lot about the area which helped us understand and give more meaning to the visit. \n\nLoved visiting Tanah Lot!
(50) A walk towards Tanah lot temple to see sunrise early in the morning , it was so peaceful being the ones there with no one around . And the day spent at pandwa beach also
(51) There's was so much hype about Tanah lot that I was prepared to be disappointed. Despite the never ending walk through all of the vendors and large groups of Other tourists, seeing the temple at sunset is worth all of it. After walking around the temple and through the water we went up on the hillside and were able get a front row table and a couple of drinks and a wonderfull view to see the sun go down. I would go back many times again to see the extraordinary sight. Definitely a must see.
(52) Watching sunset at Tabah Lot Temple Bali was just simply beautiful. Finishing up with a dinner into darkness was superb. A trip (2 hours from Nusa Dua) well worth it.
(53) Im Balinese, and definitely knows how important this temple is, but actually I found the entrance fee is too excessive for tourist. Imagine if you are going from Ulundanu to Tanah Lot (which is what most people do), the entrance fee alone is 10US$ already.\nAs the Panorama /view - it definitely worth it. If you re lucky and you get a perfect blue sky, it would be best. Usually it rains /foggy after 2 pm.\nTry the local boat around the lake for around 130K for 4 pax max. Definitely worth it with the lake breeze and cool moist on your face.\nA must visit in Bali. \nCheck out the Swing above the Twin Lake while you are nearby,
(54) temples in Bali do not allow visitors inside. One gets to see the area around the temple only, and tanah lot is one of the most scenic ones. At high tide the temple is surrounded by water, while at low tide the visitors fan out all over around the temple. the rocks around the temple with the sea and sunset as a backdrop make for beautiful scenic settings...For an indian, the priests and their simple activity are really that. Simple!! nowhere in India are temples or rituals as simple, quiet and fairly well regulated. \nthe little marketplace on the way leading to the temple is full of great street bargains if one is interested. some spicy street side cut-fruit was interesting too...
(55) A bit of a walk but this attraction has a great view of the sunset over a cliff. There are monkeys that grab food if you have any in your bag (they can smell it). They also grabbed someone's sunglasses while we were there so be careful. Don't wear anything loose that might attract their attention. There's a kecak performance at 6 but we decided to hang out by the cliff and watch the awesome sunset. Yes, add this to your list as well as Tanah Lot. There's a pork satay vendor out by the parking lot ( about 10,000 IDR for 5 pcs as of this review) if you get pre-dinner hungry.
(56) We made our way to Tanah Lot Temple, hoping to go inside, as one would. But actually, no one is allowed inside. All one can do is stare at it from the opposite cliff, as it's actually not visible from the shore. So it's not worth the effort to sit on congested road, pay the entrance fee and not to have the experience one hoped for. The shops and restaurants at the location are overpriced as at al touristy hotspots. So, all in all is overrated!
(57) About 1 hour from Kuta you will find Tanah Lot. A fantastic island temple complex that is a must visit location when in Bali. \n\nThe market stalls before the main temple entrance offer a amazing array of goods and souvenirs. The prices are surprisingly good compared to Seminyak and other tourist locations. \n\nYou could spend a whole day here. If you are lucky enough to have a decent sunset in the rainy season then thats a bonus. The cliff top restaurants provide great food and stunning views. \n\nA well run tourist operation. Well worth a visit.
(58) Every trip to Bali, I always make a trip to tanah lot to get blessed and enjoy the peace.\nPat the sacred snake, and to stroll through the gardens before an amazing sunset.\nIt's an amazing and majestic place
(59) Tanah Lot Temple is a Balinese Hindu temple on the rock located in the middle of sea. Last stop during Tanah Lot Tour is visit Tanah Lot Temple. This temple is very beautiful in the particular of the sunset time. We can view this temple from several spot points with spectacular view of the ocean and sunset.
(60) Went there for the sunset view but unfortunately the cloud was too thick that evening and miss that sunset view. Too many tourists and full of people crowded at the area nearby Tanah Lot temple. Alot of souvenier and batik shops around, maybe a good place for shopping.
