(1) Beautiful temple, but somewhat ruined by the sheer number of tourists. Better view from the nearby Nirwana hotel / golf course as you get the prettier side of the temple and can't see the hoards of tourists \n\nYou now pay 60k IDR to visit Tanah Lot village; access to the temple itself is forbidden except for religious reasons
(2) Unfortunately the Tanah Lot Temple complex suffers from the same syndrome as many other Bali temples: it's totally commercialized and there is nothing sacred about it anymore. Sadly, the access roads and surroundings of many Bali temples nowadays resemble shopping streets of European tourist destinations.
(3) The sunset was realy majestic from Tanah Lot, and it can be very ispiring and romantic! But I stayed with mixed feeling about it-there were so many tourists , you`ve been pushed all the time...the pictures from internet there the people are all by themselves are illusion! So I recommend it but for me it doesn`t fullfill my expectations
(4) This was our second visit to Bali and felt we should see Tanah Lot Temple. Was much busier and crowded than anticipated and very hot! Was good to see but I wouldn't bother again
(5) Every guide I've looked at highlighted Tanah Lot at sunset as a must-see. \nWithout doubt, it is a great sight and looks lovely with the temple in the ocean. \nHowever, going around sunset is pure craziness. Bus loads full of guided tours with hundreds of people plus their guides yelling through their intercoms. \nIf you want to feel any of the spirituality of the place, it is certainly lost. There basically is no free spot left. \nAlso keep in mind that from where visitors are allowed, the sunset is NOT setting behind the temple but behind the rock to the right. Still a very beautiful sight, but just to manage expectations. And you can see the sun setting behind rocks in other beautiful locations but don't have to share it with half of Bali's tourists. \n\nWe've just been once, so I obviously don't know how it is at other times, but I'd certainly visit earlier in the day and have a beautiful sunset in a calmer atmosphere.
(6) We hired a taxi from Sanur and made the trek out to Tanah Lot. Wow, was it ever crowded! I couldn't believe all the people. The parking lot was crazy and you have to walk past a long line of tourist crap shops but when you get there it's beautiful and worth the crowds. The view out to the ocean is stunning and the sunset was one of the nicest I saw in Bali. Worth a quick visit
(7) Another must see place in Bali id Tanah Lot Temple complex. Must visit in evening to see sunset and sea waves. Entry to temple not allowed but you can see from out side
(8) Tanah Lot is a must-go if you're in Bali. The temple is built on the coastline and can be accessible during low tide. Visitors can also participate in a simple ceremony at the base of the temple, in which monks sprinkle holy water onto you and stick some rice onto your forehead. Perfect blend of nature and spirituality!
(9) Nice scenery, try to go by a motorbike or scooter, the south of Bali is good for this. Not to many people like at Tannah lot.
(10) Tanah Lot temple is a Hindu temple. This temple is one of the very sacred temple in Bali.\nTemple is located at Beraban village, on the south coast of Bali island. \nWe came here for the sunset, which was the time when most tourists come here. \nThe sunset is by the ocean is breathtaking and you don't want to miss that.
(11) Our small tour group went to the Tanah Lot Temple about an hour before sunset. Built in the 15th century where the earth (Tanah) meets the sky (Lot). Had to walk through a gauntlet of shops, stalls, and hucksters to get to the scenic overlook. One can go down to the beach and walk (or wade in shallow water) out to the temple area, but nobody is allowed inside the structures. The crowd increases in size as the time of sunset (ca. 6:10 PM) arrives. People are eating and drinking (lots of food vendors there) waiting to toast the sunset - - such as we have observed in Key West, Florida, USA, and Ayers Rock in Australia. The evening we were there, there was a low bank of thin clouds, and the sunset was thrillingly beautiful.
(12) A long yet worthwhile ride to Tanah lot temple which has a bee line visitors eager to catch the beautiful sunset. Avoid the sunset time since it can be nuisance of traffic and delays. This beautiful temple offers beautiful views and it's a stony walk through the waves and sea water to the temple. Worth a visit!
(13) Worth enduring the crowds.\n\nTanah Lot is a complex of four temples compounds on the ocean. The most dramatic one is perched on a big rock which at low tide is an island. Very spectacular with the waves constantly crashing on it. One of the temples is on a natural rock bridge. The entire site is located on an extensive oceanfront parkland. Very photogenic place but you will have to be patient enduring the often rude crowds vying for best vantage points. This is probably the most visited sight in Bali. We thought to beat the crowds by arriving before 9am. When we got there, there were at least 1,000 (no exaggeration) people and more arriving constantly. Apparently its even more spectacular at sunset and there is a dance show at that time. The thought of those crowds makes me cringe. Allow 2+ hours and much more time if you want to shop because there are over 100 (no exaggeration) shops as well. There are numerous restaurants, drink vendors and pay toilets. Admission is 30,000 IDR per person. This is a Bali must see.
(14) The Tanah Lot temple is beautiful, located at a breathtaking spot. Unfortunately it was decided to build a big souvenir-shopping-village around the area. The place itself is also packed with tourists and always overcrowded. This takes a lot of joy and makes a visit there probably stressy and unpleasant.
(15) Visited Tanah Lot Temple last year on honeymoon. Stayed to see the sunset and was well worth it! Would definitely recommend anyone who visits Bali to visit Tanah Lot :-)
(16) VISIT: beginning of March 2020\nCOMPANY: Bali 4U Tours\nBOOKING: through Chase Ultimate Rewards and many other tour sites\n\nWe got lucky in that there was a ceremony at the Tanah Lot Temple, so definitely a great/unique thing for us to witness. The Temple itself is beautifully situated on the water. But had it not been for the ceremony, would I return? I am not sure I would go out of my way to go here. It was a 2 hour drive for us and the drive made me sick, so I am a little biased in that. But I do rate all of my reviews based on would I go out of my way to come back and for me, it's a no. Luckily, there are many other sites close by
(17) We was visiting in Tanah Lot only beacause of sunset. It was very beautiful place, but too much tourists.
(18) Drove to Tanah Lot from Legian which was about an hour. Had an enjoyable hour wandering around the temple albeit you're not allowed to actually go inside which was a shame and is why I wouldn't wait the attraction more than average. Enjoyed wandering around the shops above the cliff particularly the shop selling Luwak coffee. Imagine it would be quite spectacular at sunset. Wouldn't rush to go back but enjoyed the experience.
(19) approx 20 km from denpasar ,Tanoh lot temple sits on a large offshore rock and outstanding view it is..This place is highly commericalised and u have to pay the entrance fees of 60000 IDR .Only traditional dress are allowed. one who visit the BALI island, dont miss this place ..
(20) We went to tanah lot at sunset, the view was breath taking however there were alot of crowd trying to enjoy the sunset as well
(21) This is one of the most beautiful temple not in terms of the architecture of Temple but based on the location. This temple is set in the sea and that its uniqueness. My surrounding area is very beautiful. if the tide is not so high you may go to the rock area as well. the entrance fee in this temple is on the expensive side and that is 60000 IDR per person. In most of the itinerary this one particular place has been set in the evening and that's because of the simple reason and that is because of the beautiful sunset view. \n\nunfortunately in this particular time that is November that's the rainy season and we have missed that opportunity because of the clowded weather condition. \n\nThe tourist are not allowed to enter into the tanah lot Temple. And you may enjoy that kenak dance also. The charges for that is 80000 IDR for person. It's based on your personal preference whether you want to see it or not.
(22) We saw 11 temples in Bali and I would say Tanah Lot left the best impression.\nYes, it is more crowded than other places, but try to go there in the first half of the day. The ocean, wawes, nice smell and breeze... Spectaculous!\nThe entrance ticket - 30 000 IDR (2 euro).\nYou don't need to wear sarong there.\nIf you donate (as much as you like), you get blessing and a nice little ceremony with a holy water.\nBeutiful temple!
(23) Getting to Tanah Lot was an experience of itself! Buffalo tours have a great package, although the stop at the Monkey Temple could have been left out! We had time to visit a coffee plantation & see the civet cats, but I didn't try the Crapachino!!!!\nTanah Lot was crowded, and I didn't find the hole, but then the sunset was overcast, but still pretty spectacular!
(24) Visited Tanah Lot temple, during my visit to Bali in September 2015. Its a beautiful sea temple, one of the key tourist attractions. However, more than the temple, its a great locale for scenic pictures! Saw some couples get their pre-wedding shoot done, so interested couples should keep this in mind. Best time to visit would have to be during sunset!\n\nTip: you will find some ladies selling floral clips/ hair accessories at very reasonable prices. Also, do walk up to the small kiosks and shops- u will find a unique coffee shop with luak cats and bats hanging from the branches. Sit down for a unique cup of luak coffee amidst the surreal wildlife!
(25) Tanah Lot is the top landmark for Bali tourism, and at sunset is the top view for scenic tourist photo. Full of tourists, low tide time is advisable to take best photos as is more scenic and less crowdy as they are more dispersed.
(26) After being amused by the financial costs to enter, park and use a toilet the view of Tanah Lot Temple offered some reward. Glad to see revenue used to improve gardens and path infrastructure. Mid-afternoon and our kids exhausted by the day tour so only stayed twenty minutes (sadly, tick photo). Pretty but a little overwhelming with crowd.
(27) This place is worth the taxi ride...drag your butt away from God-awful, tourist packed Kuta...and head north to Tanah Lot. This is also a popular tourist spot, but it is beautiful. Try to go on an off day...and try to head there a couple hours before the sunset. Explore...get your photos...and the find a nice spot to sit and relax and wait for the sun to set. A nice break from all the bule bodoh walking around shirtless in Kuta.
(28) We visited Tanah Lot Temple on Sept 2015. \n\nAround the temple there are quite a few good places to click pictures and the road leading to the temple is a shopping street. \n\nWe crossed in knee depth water to get to the temple. We gave a small donation to the priests there, but we were not allowed to get into the temple, so we returned and did some shopping.
(29) As this is the first stop for our trip to Bali, the breathtaking view shown at the first sight while we entered the \temple\". Maybe it was under maintenance, so actually we only see the \"view\" instead of the \"temple\".\n\"Sarung\" is needed if you are wearing shorts/short skirt, to show respect to the God. Beware of the monkeys as it will snatch your belongings especially your glasses.\nJust another \"Nice view place\" besides Tanah Lot Temple."
(30) Bali is known for magnificent temples and Tanah lot temple can top the list with its mesmerizing view. The sunset here is an amazing think to watch. When you see from far temple looks like floating in the water which gives it a perfect photogenic view.
(31) Tanah Lot offers a far superior visitor experience to the overcrowded and difficult to access temple at Ulu Watu. The views are just as dramatic though more unexpected and the grounds are far superior. There is a pleasant, extensive, pedestrianised street market leading you to the temple and overall it would be easy to spend a very pleasant half a day exploring here.
(32) Go early if you wanna avoid crowd. Bear in mind Tanah Lot Temple is one of the most visited place in Bali and can be very crowded in late evening. If you wish to snap picture perfect photos go there early and find best spot to watch sunset
(33) Tanah Lot Temple is located on a Rock on the west shore of Bali with beautiful surrounding and presenting an ideal sun set location. The ancient temple is perched on an small island basically of naturally carved limestone rock giving semblance of \Shesh Naag\". Lord Vishnu(Shesh Naag being his bed') and Varun (God of Sea) are worshiped. One can not go on top to see the temple but can walk up to the base where blessings are given by the priest by offering pure sweet water coming out of natural spring and placing Akshat(rice) on forehead and flower on right ear. You can walk up few steps on left side for taking good photograph.\n\nOne must reach an hour before the sunset to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and take photographs. If one has not purchased souvenirs then try the rows of shops just outside the temple gates. The prices are highly competitive after good bargaining."
(34) Tanah Lot is perhaps the most frequently featured temple on Balis postcards due to its unique offshore setting and sunset backdrops. \nAn ancient Hindu shrine perched on top of an outcrop amidst constantly crashing waves. It is simply among Balis not-to-be-missed highlights on tours to Balis west
(35) Pura Luhur Tanah Lot ( Pura in Indonesia means a Temple) is a unique site for a temple in a rock formation a little into the sea. One has to cross the waves for entering the shrine. It is home to ancient hindu pilgrimage site at Bali. Beautiful by the wrath of the sea around.
(36) Admire the beauty of the sunset at Tanah Lot temple is a wonderful opportunity when you are on vacation in Bali. Tanah Lot temple located on ocean is the majesty of God. and after sunset you can see a Balinese dance performance but you have to buy a ticket for that. #tripbylocals @tripbylocals
(37) Have been to Tanah Lot before, this time the markets were very disappointing.\nHowever the temple it self was great to see and very accessible it is very picturesque with grassed areas and even a shower to cool down under.
(38) Though Tanah Lot Temple is located quite far from populated areas like Nusa Dua, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Benoa but I fully recommend for those who really wanted to capture a fantastic sunset scene on a clear weather evening. You will never regret to travel from Nusa Dua to Tanah Lot Temple going thru heavy traffic....\nThis is one of the popular tourist spot that you cannot afford to miss.
(39) This is absolutely a gorgeous natural view.\nIt is not so far out from Ubud, but yes it will be quite a distant out for you from anywhere else. \nI was traveling from Tanah Lot and it is a slightly longish ride. \n\nYou can easily spend some time here waiting for the sunset. \nThere is a performance in the evening as well which I skipped out on - so don't have an opinion yet. But you have to pay for this performance and it is in a segregated area. I am not sure how much of the view you can see while the performance is ongoing since it looks like fairly visually obstructed area. \n\nYou will get small snacks/water etc here. \nWomen will be handed sarongs to cover up - especially if you are in trousers or very short dress/shorts. \nThere are monkeys here and it may not be a good idea to engage with them even if someone is feeling adventurous. \n\nOverall an absolute delight being here
(40) Been to Tanah Lot before, but our driver took us there on another route which was really interesting. Lots of market stalls, some cheaper than in Legian or Kuta. Would recommend it for a nice day out.
(41) We came to Tanah Lot in order to see the temple and enjoy the stunning sunset at the location. We found out quickly that we were not alone about this, but in spite of the hundreds and hundreds of oath tourists and locals visiting the site we enjoyed a beautiful view of the sunset and I got almost all the nice photographs I had expected to make at this location.
(42) We visited Tanah Lot primarily for the magnificent sunset down by the beach. It was truly spectacular and when night falls, it falls quickly. Ideally, the best time to go is around 18:00 where the sun dips down cresting some truly lovely colours throughout the sky.\n\nThe Temple itself is not open to the public, but if you go to the base of the Temple, there is a small cove for you to wash your face and hands in holy water. This natural source of water is often called Beji. You are also given a small flower as a token: a jepun flower.\n\nThe view of the Temple is good from below and the rock side, however, we were completely distracted by the magnificent sunset.\n\nThe tide comes in fast too, so be warned. The rocks become slippery underfoot, so remain vigilant.
(43) The temple on the lake - way better than Tanah Lot, the temple on the sea.\n\nPeaceful, large park, interesting temples, great position on the lake.\n\nDefinitely worth a visit
(44) I was there few times. I like the view, and how ocean hits the rocks, so you can also get some fun in Tanah Lot. Don't forget to touch a holy snake in the hole. I didn't find good place for eat there, but on the way back around 5 minutes we found good and cheap warung Disini, very cozy place. So recommend you to visit both.
(45) Tanah Lot is a nice place to visit, but unfortunately is also a major tourist destination in Bali and has hence attracted too many comercial activities.\n\nJust take a brisk walk from the parking place till the ocean where you'll see a magnificent view of nature and Balinese culture combined.\n\nThe photo's give an impression.
(46) With Mt. Agung threatening to blow its top, it is a desperate time in Bali. I visited Tanah Lot 6 months ago and car parking was at a premium, all the shops were open and the paths leading to the temple were packed with tourists. This time, the place resembled a ghost town. It was really sad to see.\nSo whilst there are many hawkers, they are only trying to make a living. Please bare this in mind when visiting this beautiful part of Indonesia. The locals are really hurting economically.\nTanah Lot is a tourist attraction. It is situated on the edge of the island surrounded by a park. It is worth visiting and taking time to contemplate human achievement.
(47) I went Tanah Lot for praying with the holy water. I wish it really bring good luck, healthy and wealthy to me. Nice sea view and you can see many people from around the world to visiting this peaceful and quiet temple.
(48) One of the best-known places in Bali for sure. Tanah Lot temple sits on a rock overlooking the sea and is a great place to watch the sunset. Walk to the temple in low tide and do not forget to touch the holy snake and make a wish. Mind that the sea snake is venomous, but no worries the guide makes sure no one gets hurt. You might get some bargains at the local market too. Great place to visit.
(49) The reason for my cryptic title is to infer to you that; as shared by all other reviewers, that a visit to Tanah Lot comes hand in hand with the expectation of the hordes of people, peddlars and shops. However if you have a strong sense of imagination;try if you can, to obliterate the masses to enjoy nature at it's best. The susnset when I went there was not spectacular however it did create a good photographic opportunity.\nAnother point to add is; due to it's popularity. be prepared to be challenged by heavy traffic getting there. In other words; plan your trip with generous time allowances, otherwise you may miss the sunset all together.
(50) Traveled from Ubud to Tanah Lot to see this fantastic experience, definitely not dissapointed.\nThere are plenty of places in Bali to see sunsets and most of them seem to want to charge you one way or another (food, drink etc). \nThis is just beautiful with such surreal foreground of the magnificent Tanah Lot Temple.\nIf you go to Bali, it is an absolute must to make a trek to this untouched part of the world
(51) Tanaji Lot Temple, locally called Pura Tanah Lot, which means earth and sea, is beautifully located on a small island, is the most most popular place of interest in Bali. Unfortunately, one can not go to the temple if it is high tide time, as there is no bridge connecting the shore to the temple, although the distance is small. Besides the main temple, the complex has four other smaller temples. The entire are is very well maintained, despite large number of visitors every day, round the year.
(52) Tanah lot is a small town, around an hour drive from canggu by a scooter. The small town is not a lot to see, mainly shops selling very similar items. Its quite big to walk around and the view is magnificent. You can spend half a day just walking around to enjoy the view. We also managed to enjoy the luwak coffee at one of the shops in the village and the owner has bats and luwak as his pets. Quite interesting ...
(53) If you want to enjoy a spiritual encounter, a peaceful walk, a beautiful sunset and some interesting infrastructure... then go to any other temple. If you want to buy some Bintang singlets and squander the Hindu culture along with 3000 fellow tourists then come to Tanah Lot. Don't forget to pick up some cheap sunnies. One Star.
(54) Thats how we felt every time we journey to Tanah Lot by riding the motorbike from Kuta. The ride will take you through the craziness and the calmness at the same time. But they were all good as we liked it first hand. Along the way we got to see Bali as a whole .. picturesque most of the time. Had a stop at Starbucks in the middle of a district called Kampoeng before we journey towards the temple. Tourists everywhere. The place was crowded. And it was high tide. The temple was submerged half way, so we decided to take photos nearby. It wasnt our first time here. So we let others to experience it. Overall excellent views for photos, a bit crowded and you just need to be in the moment. We did and enjoyed it.
(55) Pura Tanah Lot is almost an hour drive from Kuta, and is one of Bali's most prominent spots for photography. The place can get really crowded with tourists and hawkers. Even at crowded times, if you walk a little bit far (towards the right side), you can find spots with very less people around that are much calmer and better, and can still enjoy the scenic beauty around. \n\nMore than the temple itself, the place offers superb views of the sea, and the rock formation on which the temple is built. The sunset here is spectacular, and is the best time to be around. We reached there at around 4ish in the evening, and stayed back even after sunset. The feeling was just amazing!\n\nOnly during low tides can one cross the water to reach the temple. Still, you can only enter the temple if you are Balinese.\n\nShops selling souvenir and food line both sides of the walkway, that lead from the car park to the entrance of Pura Tanah Lot.
(56) We visited this attraction with Gede Bob of Family Bali Tours. A large crowd had gathered at the entrance as this temple was on every tourist itinerary and tour package. It was considered an important Balinese landmark and the area is also home to several smaller shrines. However it felt more of a tourist attraction than a sacred religious ground with the many souvenir shops and restaurants dotting its perimeters. \n\nFortunately the area was quite sprawling and the mass of tourists is diffused. However it was still challenging to get photos of ourselves, the temple and scenery without the crowds. The walk from the entrance to the temple was pleasant and the low tide revealed wave-cut platforms with trapped sealife. It also provided the opportunity to get close to the Tanah Lot Temple and participate in a holy water blessing at the base of the temple.\n\nThe sunset views were inviting but nothing as magical as that of Rock Bar at AYANA Resort & Spa Bali. The crashing of the waves on the coastal rocks was more interesting. They were like aquatic roars that attempted to swallow whole the unwary tourist who dared the rock's' edge.
(57) This is one of the main tourist attractions in Bali. The sight of the temple is a beauty to behold. This is definitely one of the better places to see sunsets in Bali. \n\nTanah Lot Temple is renowned for its unique offshore setting and sunset backdrops. From far away, you can witness an absolutely stunning ancient Hindu shrine perched nicely on top of a unique rock formation amidst constantly crashing waves.\n\nThe locals here are absolutely proud of this historical site. This tourist attraction has quite a complete set of facilities ranging from with smaller shrines restaurants, souvenir shops and a cultural park presenting regular dance performances called Kecak. \n\nTrust me; you will love it for sure. Even though I am a regular visitor to Bali, I have always returned to this temple over and over again....never getting bored of the beauty of this place.
(58) A must do experience whilst in Bali. Sunset at Tanah Lot Temple. We sat at one of the many bar/restaurants at the top of the cliff and drank cocktails whilst watching the sun go down behind this lovely temple. If you get there early enough you can cross the shallow water and check out the temple, once the tide comes in it is too late. Heaps of people stood on the beach and watched the sunset. Best to walk up the stairs and path and sit comfortably with a drink in hand and watch the splendour.
(59) Visited in 2014. One of the best attractions of Bali. The Tanah Lot temple stands in the sea and it is a spectacular view from the top. Can take photos from various locations and everytime you get a different natural beauty in your camera. I captured some stunning views of the sea and these memories are really treasurable. \nBeautiful place ...must go ...
(60) Tanah Lot temple is dedicated to Sea God & definitely a good place to watch sun set. \nNo monkey menace here in comparison to Uluwatu temple - so people enjoy visiting the place in peace.\nWe wanted to visit top of the temple for better view. The approach is through winding staircase. For climbing stairs, one needs to offer prayers & donation (10 K per person), but to our dismay, after climbing 20 odd steps, we found gates are locked - and no one informs you about this. So avoid falling in trap of local priests to pay for climbing up.\nTheres a cafeteria towards west side of the temple which offers awesome view of Indian Ocean overlooking a beautifully maintained garden.\nIf you want good pics, go early as it is very crowded all day.
