(1) Tanah Lot is a very pretty temple situated on an island with water surrounding it but when we went the tide was very low so you could walk across. Lots of markets nearby as well.
(2) What a place to visit anytime of the day. We look forward to Tanah Lot Temple every time we come to Bali. It is amazing how much the gardens, surroundings and markets change each time. The markets get bigger and better, from beautiful paintings, amazing wood carvings and the usual clothes stalls. You can spend hours watching tourists take photos of the waves crashing over the temple and families taking photos of the magnificent picturesque coastline. We love this place and definitely would recommend to family and friends.
(3) Our driver suggested we visit Tanah Lot Temple. We paid a small entry fee and our driver walked around with us and took some pics with our phones. He shared information about the history and the architecture. The temple is quite picturesque and the grounds reasonably tidy. There are stacks of market stalls everywhere near the entrance and also numerous Warung's if you are hungry.\n\nDefinitely plan your trip for low tide\n\nFree Wifi is available near the entrance
(4) The Besikah temple, Lovina and Tanahlot are main tourist destinations in Bali. Disadvantage is that you are not alone there unless you visit them early morning are late afternoon.\nTanahlot is a \must see\" and with low tide in the afternoon you may walk around on the beach below.\nThere are plenty of photos available and you probably will shoot the same ones but nothing compares with seeing Tanahlot with your own eyes"
(5) Tanah Lot temple is one of the must visited place while touring Bali. The most scenic view ones will get while the sea level rises over several hours. The wave the view is amazing.
(6) Almost same as tanah lot temple. However we prefer tanah lot better than this. We didn't have a chance to see the sunset as the sky was very cloudy during our visit. Beware of monkeys. They are really naughty and fierce. It chased my son who wanted to go near. Also one of it approached a tourist without fear and pull their water bottle though many ppl around. View is great but overall we prefer Tanah lot.
(7) Tanah Lot Temple setup on a rocky sea shore is a stunning sight. We visited just before sunset and at high tide and were not disappointed. Its a photographers delight. Visitors are not allowed inside, which was a bit of a let down, but one must respect the sentiments of the Balinese, a spiritual people. Wish we had spent the entire evening there.
(8) Tanah lot temple is near the beach side with an amazing garden and sunset view. Pretty huge garden to have a walk while enjoying sunset. There is a small area for taking holy spring water and blessings from priests to go to the side top of the temple. Have a big local market presence and most of the shops are filled with arts from local Bali people. Arts are mainly of bamboo, sea shells and many others.
(9) we have been many time to this temple, tanah lot is moust popular in the world, for every one musk visit here
(10) We went to Tanah Lot to watch the sunset and see the temples it was time well spent at this beautiful location, it was fairly crowded on the day we went but there was plenty of room to sit on the lawn and watch the sun sink into the ocean.\nThere were a multitude of stalls selling typical Balinese wares and some wonderful locally crafted items, on the whole it was an afternoon very much enjoyed by all the family.
(11) Don't miss the waves at Tanah Lot temple !!! ......Its beautiful place with magic in the air .....you can sit for hours watching the waves touch the feet of the Gods abode .....\n\nLow tide and you get to enjoy taking a shower with the waves \n\nHigh tide you see the temple floating !!!
(12) Tanah Lot Temple is certainly worth a visit when you're in the area. The sights here are amazing. The temple is located on the coast, and the temple-complex as a whole is rather spread out, making for great walking and enjoying the views. If you're on Bali, this is a must-see!
(13) We arrived in time to catch the sunset. We had a long day so attaching this visit at the end of the day did not do this place justice.\n\nThe entry fee is 60,000 IR. Our driver said that tourist or people outside of the village can not enter the temple. I did see people lining up at the temple but maybe that was for a blessing?? or just a closer look. I did not see people going into the temple.\n \nI still loved this location it was on my list of things to do in Bali so I was very excited. Great photo opportunities. Yes there are many market stalls but I did not find the stall holders too pushy I politely just said no and kept walking if I was not interested. \n\nWe got a table in one of the cafes across from Tanah Lot got some hot chips and beers and watched the sun go down from there. \n\nNext time I'd love to visit during high tide and I'd make the walk down beside the temple to explore. I'd arrive earlier as there is plenty to see and bring my tripod :) \n\nSunset is a popular time so there are many people visiting and of course many people leaving after sunset which can mean the traffic conditions can be very congested ... it took us 2 hours to drive back to Seminyak my travel companions were very tired and this may have detracted from their overall enjoyment of our visit to Tahah Lot.
(14) Tanah Lot temple, as you probably already know by now, is a temple situated on a rock surrounded by water. It is only accessible at low tide, and it is a lovely place to visit and view. There isn't much else to the temple, other than the shops you have to walk past to get to it, but it's a lovely stop if you're touring around Bali.
(15) Tanah is only a few £s to get in, you are ushered in and cant really look at shops until you are on the way out. It is really busy so difficult to enjoy the splendor. It is apparently the most visited temple and it shows. It was lovely - go if you have time but otherwise visit the other temples. Unfortunately the day we went no sunset to be seen as cloudy but that is luck of the draw.
(16) You cannot say you've seen Bali without visiting Tanah Lot! Despite the thousands of foreigners, somehow it holds on the Balinese spirit, it is a sacred place for the locals, who are going on with their ceremonies as usual. We went there late, almost closing time, but we had a chance to see the most amazing sunset, picture-perfect, a memory of a life-time.
(17) It is my 5th visit to Bali and only this time I decided to visit Tanah lot temple. It was a bit smaller than I thought, and I was sad that I actually can't approach near the temple but see it from far away. Temple seeing place was limited but competitive for lots of tourists. My husband and I just took several pictures from view points, and then came back to the car (it took around 30 min for us to look around temple). It was a good scenery to take several pic, but nothing more special than that.
(18) We went to this temple after our visit to Tanah Lot (see separate review). This felt very different. It is very striking and picturesque up in the foothills of the mountains. There is more space around the temple so it felt less claustrophobic than Tanah Lot and was certainly cleaner.\n\nWell worth a visit and great opportunities for photos, it was cooler up there and misty but the mist added to the majesty of the temple
(19) You must visit this place! It' s really, really beautiful. Temple above the ocean, what a nice view. But becareful wih your things, glasses, hats, cause there are monkeys watching you and ready to get your things. After sightseeing and walking, try the coconut \kelapa batok\", just 20.000 IDR, so good."
(20) Tanah Lot Temple Is At The Beach Were Balinese People Come To Worship The God..It Is A Must Go Place For Every Tourist In Bali..Very Beautiful Sunset Pictures Can Be Taken..You Feel Peaceful @The Place..
(21) If you're visiting Bali, you should arrange half day to visit this famous temple: Tanah Lot. It's beautiful destination and attraction. It's worth for the trip to come here because it'll take you 30' to 1 hour by car from Kuta. Like a spirit place you will feel a special moment that you can't express!
(22) Tanah lot is a crowded beach. You can get sun set view when the sky is clear. There is a beautiful temple and scenery. It is also near Denpasar.
(23) My niece and I visited Tanah Lot Temple last Feb 26, 2018 morning and it was not surprising why a lot of tourists go to this place. Such marvelous work of God's hands! Though the heat of the sun was scorching, yet, we were able to come up with beautiful photos. Mr. Dewa Alit, our tour guide, was so accommodating in taking our pictures. He is also very knowledgeable of the Balinese culture and history.:-)
(24) Beautiful place, worth a quick visit...we stopped off here on our way back to Tanah Lot from Lovina. We got there around 10am and it was pretty packed with visitors already.
(25) We had a wonderful visit to Tanah Lot. The views are amazing, and we were lucky to visit during low tide and were able to walk out to the temple and to watch the blessings of the people who had come with their offerings \nThere are lots of stands selling food and souvenirs, which are fun to stroll around, but it is the setting and watching the local people that makes the place such a special place
(26) My first time to the Tanah Lot Temple, and I say it was a highlight of my trip to Bali.\nFrom paying the 60000 rupiah for two of us. When we walked down the temple on the rock arch was magnificent and breathtaking, we took heaps of photos and then were blown away by what we saw next, another temple on the rocks.\nWe ventured down and walked over to the rocks and drank out of the holy spring and were blessed. \nThis temple is magnificent and i regret not seeing it sooner.\nThis is a must see.
(27) If you want to visit tanah lot, come in the afternoon around 4.30pm as the water is not high so you could play and walk to the temple.\n\nAnd the view is gorgeous.
(28) Tanah Lot has a lot of rave reviews. However, my personal experience is that it is probably over-rated and only worth a visit on a good clear day when you are guaranteed a good sunset.\nWhen we visited earlier this month we found that the Temple is at the furthest point from the entrance and in the interim are numerous shops and sellers all trying to get your business (albeit generally in a nice non-threatening manner).\nWhen we eventually managed to walk all the way to the foot of the temple, we saw a queue of people waiting to be blessed. It appeared you washed your face with the water, then they put some rice on your forehead and a flower in your hair. You were then encouraged to give them a donation and a man would raise their \barrier\"/stick to allow you onto the steps to one side of the temple. I assumed this meant you needed to be blessed to enter the temple and so went ahead with the fuss and was then allowed access to the steps. However, the steps merely went round the corner about 30ft and then stopped at another gate which you were not allowed to pass...very odd. At this point we took a customary photo from this vantage point and wandered back down.\nUnfortunately for us we did not pick a good day for the sunset and therefore the views were not the picture-postcard ones that others may have seen.\nTo make the most of the opportunity to see the sunset though, we wandered back a way and up towards a restaurant on the edge so that we could take pictures from here. I think this would be a much better vantage point from which to see the sunset and take pictures on a clearer day as well. Plus you can order a drink and sit down rather than stand with the hundreds of other people on the beach and take photos from ground level looking upwards.\nI would advise coming here a while before the sunset and setting yourself up at a bar/restaurant so that you get the best spots for the photos."
(29) Bali is full of temples but this one is different from must of them. Beautiful temple that you can only see by far but also beautiful landscape nearby. This is an impressive place to visit. \n\nIf you want to take an online taxi (Gojek or Grab), be careful, taxis don't accept them and they are very aggressive if they understand that you are not taking their taxi although the price is at least 5 times higher. We only had this problem in Tanah Lot and nowhere else.
(30) Tanah Lot Temple was truly beautiful to behold. On a huge rock in the sea with waves splashing all over the rocks at the bottom and to the side of it and trees all around the temple on top and down the sides. Went at high tide due to time constraints but would advise going at low tide so that you can get nearer to the rock holding the temple. At high tide there is a viewing point across from the temple but unfortunately there are many tourists all trying to get photo's from the same spot as you. So it is a bit of a push and shove to get into place and difficult to get photo's without strangers in them. However, once you get the photo's they are beautiful and to be treasured forever. This was a not to be missed temple. Once again the grounds you walk in to see the temple are immaculate. Stunning, even though seen from a little distance away.
(31) One of the best thing you can visit in Bali is Tanah Lot Temple. A temple where you have to reach walking in sea water upto your waist level in normal hours. once high tide is there no one is allowed to go there since public area of temple gets filled with sea water.\n\nYou can enjoy beach side restaurant in very feasible rate to wait till sunset. Shopping also cheap as compare to Kuta & Legian . But you have to pay 60,000 IDR entry fee(nothing is free in Bali, not even beaches). But I must say that entry fee is worthy to see this historic temple & nature's beauty .\n\nBig yessss for Tanah Lot
(32) This is my second visit to Tanah Lot. First thing I noticed was the terrain. Perhaps I've grown older and now take note of how the environment has deteriorated. People were trampling over all the natural vegetation, that the rock pools were no longer surrounded by fresh green plants (my apologies that I don't know what these are called, it's not really seaweed I think), due to tourists (local and overseas, including me) were walking all over them. It was difficult to avoid stepping over the plants. Anyway, perhaps nature would find a way to survive. \n\nThe postcard view of Tanah Lot came to life right in front of me. Staying for sunset would have been even more perfect too. The atmosphere, despite all the people, was actually very very peaceful. It was nice to just sit on the rocks and feel the cool breeze and hear the waves.
(33) Tanah Lot was a fantastic experience. We payed a driver to take us there and back as it is quite a long drive from Kuta. There is an entrance fee of rp60,000 per adult and rp30,000 per child (under 10yrs). There are toilets at the entrance. There are a lot of market stalls and cafes along the walk to the Tanah Lot view and multiple places for good photo opportunities. You cannot go up to the temple but at low tide you can walk across - we didn't attempt this as it is dangerous and slippery and the photos and view you get from the mainland is stunning.\nIf you turn left once you are at the end of the path (just before the beach) and head up the hill past more market stalls, there is a large section of chairs and tables on the cliff side where you can sit and get a cold drink and take photos of the sunset over Tanah Lot. There are many vendors here to choose from, all selling cold drinks and some food. If you turn to the right once you are at the end of the path (just before the beach) and go up the hill in the opposite direction, you can get some amazing photos of Tanah Lot from a different view as well as some other lovely sights of further north up the coast. It is very busy and sometimes you have to wait for people to move to capture the perfect photo opportunities, but it is worth the wait.
(34) Visiting Tanah lot temple at Sunset is a must do activity for all tourists in Bali.\nAnd this is one of the main reasons which attracts hordes of tourists to Tanah Lot.\n\nBut I must say visiting Tanah lot should be in every tourists itinerary. The temple looks stunning during golden hour and low tide makes the temple accessible by foot.\n\nThis place witnesses a lot of traffic so we would recommend to start early from your hotel so that you don't miss the stunning sunset.
(35) Tanah Lot Temple is built into an enormous rock. \nIt is situated about 30 metres from the waters edge. \nAt low tide you can walk across to the Temple, but be aware, the tide comes in very quickly.\nEntrance fee AUD $3 ea, Rp 30.000\nA sarong is supplied for your visit.\nThe prayer buildings, gardens and walkways are well kept and are included in admission
(36) Over the years we have been to Tanah Lot Sea Temple many times escorting Bali newbies. Good idea to check the tides as the Temple is only accessible at low tide. There is a cave under the temple with a freshwater stream that the priests use to \bless\" visitors. Make sure you pack the camera for this unique cultural experience."
(37) We went by a private car to Tanah Lot Temple. It's beautiful and worth a visit, it is a bit similar to other temples in Bali, so i guess it depends if you want to visit other sites in the area, such as the rice fields. Go early there are large tour buses that also visit.
(38) Tanah lot temple is surrounded by oceans. To reach it from Nusa Dua 90 minutes. On the beach there is a temple. This is a very nice for relaxed place, the views are amazing and great for the take photos.
(39) I've been to Tanah Lot Temple twice and both times have thought \why did we come here!\" Not worth the long drive from Legian and little to see."
(40) We had been to Tanah lot temple on our visit to Bali and were quite impressed with the view of the island temple and another temple near by. Its quite under rated and would highly recommens any one visiting Bali.
(41) The complex consisted of 5 temples, a market complex, and a theatre area. My favorites were the Tanah Lot and Batu Bolong Temples. Tanah Lot is situated on its own island (accessible at low tide). Batu is basically a rock outcropping with hole where sea water flows through. Would be an ideal place to watch the sunset but we could not due to timing constraints
(42) This temple right at the sea shore is simply beautiful, the complex is huge, with many places for snaps. There are food stalls, eateries and handicraft stores in the complex. The sunset view of Tanah lot is worth waiting for followed by Fire dance.
(43) If you are looking for locations to visit in Bali, this is one of the places you can go, Tanah Lot Temple. Locals simply describe this as a floating temple because the temple is like an Island in the middle of the sea. This is a good place for photo ops with your friends or family. This is also a good place in buying souvenirs about Bali. If you are not the adventurous type of a person, this is a place for you.
(44) Much more beautiful than Tanah lot. Incredible setting on edge of cliffs. Much bigger grounds and less commercialised site. Very worthwhile visiting.
(45) We stayed in jimbaran and the trip to tanah lot took about 2 and a half hours but the temple and the suroundings makes the effort to get there almost pleasant\nIt s a must see if you planned a trip in bali\nThank Kadek and Putu (our drivers and friends now)
(46) I arranged to visit Tanah Lot Temple after my arrival in Bali on my way to Ubud. My driver from Ubud Area Tours collected me as usual at the airport and off we went to Tanah Lot. We arrived at approximately 2 pm on a Monday with far less tourists than expected. \n\nAfter wading through a sea of hawkers we eventually arrived at the look out point for Tanah Lot Temple, paid a handsome price to basically sea a black blob of rock. There were security people at the entrance of the temple preventing tourists from walking around the actual site. I’m still trying to fathom out why people are drawn to this Temple and my only conclusion is that they must witness the disappointment for themselves. I can be very thankful that l didn’t attempt to visit at a busy sunset time as my disappointment would have been even greater. A row of dirty restaurant line the area to view the temple, but unless you are intending to eat or drink something, you won’t be welcome.\n\nThankfully l had a great driver who is a fabulous registered guide at the same price as a regular driver and he described the history to me in full, needless to say my overall experience of the actual temple was that it’s one of the biggest money spinners in Bali and as long as “ us “ the stupid tourist keeps on coming, they will keep the intrigue of getting close to the temple, Private. \n\nIn comparison l could repeat my visits to Tirta Empul were they encourage tourists to embrace the temple and participate. Tanah Lot Temple is the cash cow of Bali, raking in millions from us the gullible tourist. Don’t believe all the beautiful pictures you see on the internet of Tanah Lot, it basically doesn’t look like that at all.
(47) I first came to Tanah Lot six years ago and returned again 3 years ago. I swore on that last visit that I wasn't going to come back as it was just full of litter. The sight of people just dropping rubbish everywhere was just too much.\n\nGuiding my mother around Bali, I really couldn't not show her the place, especially as it appears on so much of the advertising around the island. The difference in low season was just astounding. Obviously there were significantly less people, producing significantly less trash, but still the place was amazingly tidy.\n\nThere seemed to be a lot more organisation to the place and even the hawkers trying to get you to see the \mystical snake\" were less conspicuous.\n\nTanah Lot offers a really good photo opportunity and if I go again it will definitely be at low season."
(48) An important cultural shrine that has been loved to death by mass tourism. As fascinating as its history and cultural significance, Tanah Lot is one of the worse tourist traps I have ever seen.
(49) My first visit to Tanah Lot recently. The view of the Temple and its surrounding is amazing and beautiful. It's a place I would love to visit again.
(50) After visiting a lot of temples (with all the main ones in Bali included) we ended our holiday with the tana lot temple to see the sunset. 60000idr per person but is worth it!\nIt is one of most beautiful things we saw. It is very romantic and mystic. If you don't want to get bored skip other temples but do this one!
(51) The Tanah Lot temple is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Bali. The temple itself it beautifully situated on a rock in the ocean - and that is the only positive thing I can say. You cannot access the temple but only look at it from afar along with hundreds of other tourists. You can however buy all sorts of junk in the hundreds of tourist shops set up around the area and you will need to spend at least a couple of hours in tranports to and from the temple depending on where you are staying. My advice: Don't go there - and spend your time in Bali on other things.
(52) We visited the temples at Tanah Lot (yes, there is more than one) perched on a clifftop overlooking beautiful black sand beaches and volcanic black rocks jutting into the sea, just 25 minutes north of Canggu. As most tourists go late afternoon so they can also enjoy the sunsets, we decided to avoid the crowds by visiting early afternoon. This was successful in that the numbers were fewer, but the temperature was so hot and the humidity was very high.\nOur favourite was the temple on a point which, when viewed from the side, shows a large opening in the rock itself through which waves can surge. Then there is the main, popular temple which is on an island just 50 metres from the shore, but can be reached by walking across at low tide. Truly spectacular! \nWe finished our visit at the restaurant on the cliff top, under the trees but allowing the breeze to cool us. The food was fresh and tasty although a bit over-priced and the cats hovering around the tables were not exactly welcome.\nOverall, the entire site has been well designed and maintained . And of course there are markets for the shopaholic many. We liked this place and recommend a visit.
(53) Tanah lot temple..The rock's original name,Tengah lod means\in the sea\" 🌊 \nThis place is known for its panoramic views and cultural offerings. It's a rock formation off the Indonesian island 🌴 of Bali.\nThe convenient pathways and well kept tropical gardens line the grounds from Tanah lot to Batu Bolong. A must visit place when you are in Bali as it remains one of the main icons of tourism in the island.\nP.S. visit to Tanah Lot in evening/late afternoon if you really want to enjoy spectacular view of sunset 🌅"
(54) Tanah Lot is beautiful place. But very crowded and if you're looking for a nice quiet spiritual experience you will not get it here. You can wash yourself and drink holy water from the rock - but offcourse you have to leave a tip for that. Taking dinner on one of the restaurants on the cliff during sunset - perfect. Also nice shoping on the cliffs - people were not to pushy, can't say the same for entering point.
(55) Tanah Lot is perhaps the most famous of Bali Temples. It is located about 22 kms from Kuta.Situated in the ocean itself it is connected to landmass by a rocky ridge which is accessible only during low tide. The temple itself is not grand but the scenic beauty is amazing. The best time to visit is during sunset. The sun setting on the Indian Ocean offers a spectacle that simply cannot be missed.Photographers are sure to have a great time here! However, you should try to visit at least 1 hour to 1.5 hr before the sunset time as the place gets very crowded. Also during returning it takes about 1.5 to 2 hrs to reach Kuta due to slow traffic.Absolutely must visit!
(56) Tanah Lot is a temple which is only reachable by foot at low tide! When the ocean comes in it completely floods the small channel between the \mainland\" and the temple. We were not able to get to the temple itself, but have many shots of this very photogenic sight. There is almost a mob-scene of vendors on the two main streets, which makes it an interesting visit if you enjoy peeking and looking. When we were there it was very hot which made us go from shady spot to shady spot, but it was still very worthwhile. The traffic getting there through each of the tiny towns was a bit much, but as I said, the view was terrific. My only thought, though, was - if you are going to build a temple for people to worship the many Balinese gods, why would you build it in a place that is only accessible a couple of hours each day?? But, they did, and it is gorgeous from a distance. Maybe the Indian Ocean was lower then?? Global warming????"
(57) We had a great spiritual experience and found chance to taste Balinese culture. There is a fresh underground water coming out from Tanah Lot. When you drink 3 times and pray its believed to bring you good luck.\n\nYou can go to temple if its there is less wave and water hight allows.\n\nVery big facility around with lots of shops, markets around.\n\nGreat place to watch sunset and if you want to catch sunset you should visit around 17:00-18:00
(58) Crashing waves, beautiful scenery, old temples... Okay there are tons of tourists but don't let that ruin the experience. This is a sacred, ancient site and it is breathtaking. We started at the end of the walk and finished at tanah lot temple but continued walked left of the temple along the beach. It was totally away from the crowds and you can see the temple with your own little bit of peace and quite.
(59) So many tourists but thats normal at Tanah Lot around the evening time to catch a sunset! Impressive temple design on the rocks!
(60) If you have visited some other temples, then you may skip this one. It has good views but I would recmend to visit Tanah Lot temple. Be careful of monkeys (we saw them snatching glasses from a Japanese group). |
