(1) Obviously the actually sun set varies every day but the temple does not provide a foreground for the sunset in the same way that Tanah Lot does. Maybe worth a visit in the day or for the dance show but do not make the trek for sunset photos as you will be disappointed.
(2) A visit to Tanah Lot is much more than a trip to see a temple. Unfortunately we visited during high tide so could not make the crossing to the temple. It was still worth visiting and a magical place in Bali. There are other small temples on the well maintained grounds which are exquisite. Its not too difficult to get away from the crowds to find a little piece of serenity. Lots of winding streets, pathways and vendors selling the usual touristy stuff. You can even pat some pretty tame lewaks at one of the cafes. Put aside a few hours to enjoy this place.
(3) Admittedly, the traffic was horrendous. It took us over 2hours from Legian for the 20km journey which should have been about an hour. After we paid our 60Rupiah entry each, we snaked our way through all the retail shops to witness sunset @ Tanah Lot Temple.\n\nUnfortunately, it was less than spectacular and the temple itself was not accessible. \n\nWhile quite novel, being perched on the side of a cliff, a little too far for little reward.\n\nRecommend that if you go, where supportive shoes because it can be slippery.
(4) We went to Tanah Lot in the afternoon to watch the sunset and were not disappointed! We got to touch the holy snake, drink the holy spring water and got blessed by the Tanah Lot priests. Then we sat a top the smaller temple and watched the sunset. The bats came of their cave just as it started to get dark and it was a magnificent sight to see thousands of them flying out into the sunset. Well worth the visit!!!
(5) we visited both the Uluwatu and the Tanah Lot temple. The Tanah lot temple is located bang on the seashore and epitomizes the ancient culture that you see everywhere in Bali. after getting blessed with holy water from the priests, we watched a spectacular sunset on the beach. While the Uluwatu temple is more famous and is equally glorious, the Tanah lot temple scores in terms of location. Can get hot in the morning to noon session, wheras in the afternoon, the cloudy weather and occasional rains made if lovely weather.
(6) I never made it to Tanah Lot when I came to Bali a few times many years ago and was stoked to finally be able to see the rock. Unfortunately, we couldn't climb it as there was a procession but I gather, tourists cannot climb it at all - even with the appropriate gear. \n\nWe went during the day and the market area wasn't particularly crowded, however, the shore was very busy, also with locals due to a public holiday. We had a coffee Luwak up there with the Luwak cats lying around a bat hanging around. That was a new experience as well. \n\nTanah Lot is the one temple featured in every article or ad on Bali - but in the end there isn't much to see and accomplish as you can't climb it. And it's quite a trip just for that.
(7) This is a good experience to visit Tanah Lot Temple . Place is nice and sun down is superb . If you didn't try before , please come to experience it. This is a a good memory . The place is convenience to walk around as already been well renovate . Around the rocks tanah Lot temple has been well maintained. Come and visit and you will know.
(8) I've to come a 2nd time to catch the sunset view. My 1st visit 2 years ago was raining and high tide. This time was perfect ! We had a very beautiful sunset view and a very low tide where we can get down and walked on the usually covered area by the sea. Took many nice shots at Tanah Lot Temple and don't forget the Batu Bolong a little further up north.
(9) We had a big day touring around Bali and our driver did well to get us to Tanah Lot Temple just on sunset, but for the best views I expect it would be better to have gotten there earlier. That said, it did not take away from the majesty of the Temple and the incredible efforts of the builders/monks to create it so long ago.\nWe walked around the rocks at low tide and enjoyed the twilight then quick darkness of night before getting into our car to get back to Legian. I would definitely visit again...in daylight! Cost to enter park is IDR30,000 per person. Luckily we had it on us.
(10) Its one of the most visited temple by both tourist and locals due to its great view. There are a few temples (Pura) in Bali that chain one another, and Tanah Lot is one of them (can't remember the chains).\nAdvise to go there early is to avoid the crowd of human and car traffic, as well as the sun heat.\nPerfect to be your 1st destination of the day.
(11) If you are a traveller fro india its a waste of time . Nothing special about the place .travellers from india wwont find this much of an attraction.we were onthe way to tanah lot temple &this was included in our itinery.
(12) It was an great sightseeing time there. The main temple at times you are allowed to walk down to on the rocks due to how the tide is. Lots of places to rest and take in the multitude of views. As well as the temples there are to see go and see the Kecak fire dance which is located at the other end of the beach from Tanah Lot Temple it starts after sunset. Well worth the trip. So plan to go more towards sunset to see the temple to catch the fire dance as well that night. 🔥🔥🙌🏻🙌🏻
(13) if you are in bali , don't miss being there in this awesome place to witness one of the best sunsets views here in bali \ntanah lot in bahasa means the land of the ocean , one of the most famous temples here , the rock shore with the high waves complete the sight \nFood is a bet expensive there
(14) Plenty of souvenir shops and cafes with a view. But you are here to watch the spectacular sunset and enjoy the photo session. Dont bother shopping etc. as you have plenty of time left to do so. Make sure you get in early and find a nice place to take photos. Otherwise you will be lost in the crowd.\nIf you are adventurous then go down and take photos from under the bridge. Its the best view.Tanah Lot, a rock formation with a temple (pura) on top, looks like a ship made of stone. One of seven ocean temples along the southwest coast of Bali, Pura Tanah Lot was built around the 16th century to honour the spirits of the sea. Sunset is spectacular at Tanah Lot.\nThe temple itself is not accessible to visitors, but magnificent views from a variety of points nearby. Crowds especially gather on the terraces nearby to watch the glow of the sunset behind the temple. .
(15) Watching the pictures, we were so looking forward to visiting Tanah Lot... and we stayed 20 minutes! It is a beautiful temple and site but just packed with people, which ruins the experience. Disappointing.
(16) 15 of December I have a nice trip, organized and provided from local driver - Yopi. During this trip we see many interesting places, such as: Tanah Ayum temple, coffee plantation, rice terrace, Bratan temple and Tanah lot temple. Yopi told me special historicalfacts about this places and many others. He has a good price and very friendly.\nThank you Yopi!
(17) Tanah Lot was located about 25 km from our hotel at Kuta. Our travel agent Catur had recommended that I hire a scooter and drive to the Tanah Lot temple. With the GPS on and my wife to guide it was quite easy to reach the temple and took us only about an hour. The temple was built on a rock which is a little off the shore. Although the photos on the net showed it was surrounded by water on all sides, since the tide was low the water had receded and the temple was approachable by foot. On the way to the temples, we crossed a small market which mainly sold souvenirs.\nWe could not go up to the temples as it was closed to visitors. We had to make do with admiring the temple from below. Most of the tourist were there mainly to enjoy the panoramic view of the Indian ocean and to catch the sunset. After taking a few photos, we stood for a while on the shore enjoying the cool waves lapping against our feet. The same waves which have been thrashing against the rocks and shaping them over the centuries. \nWe walked along the shore and reached another small cliff which we climbed and that provided a beautiful view of the sea front and of the Tanoh Lot temple. A lot of people had reserved their spot in the area to catch the sunset view. We walked around and found ours. \nThe sunset was beautiful colouring the sky in different hues of orange and its final glow being carried by the waves reflecting of the sea and the silhoutte of tanah lot on the rock stood at the corner admiring this view like the many visitors. \nIt was a good way to end out trip as Tanah Lot was the last place in Bali we visited before we completed our vacation.
(18) I throughly enjoyed Tanah Lot. I didn't go for sunset so it wasn't as crowded, but the place is very beautiful to see. It is great when the waves are crashing against the rocks, makes for a great photography spot. Definitely a must see in Bali for cultural purposes.
(19) We visited Tanah Lot as part of a day trip with a local guide and needed about an hour to explore and get a good look at everything. Its a pretty temple with the main feature built on a rock Island about five metres off shore.\n\nYou can walk over to the temple island if you want. Youll have to get a blessing (donation optional) to step foot on it and you can only climb up about ten steps halfway up one side, but it does make some nice photos. \n\nIt was - all in all - ok. Worth a visit but be prepared for masses of uncontrolled tourists, locals peddling you photos and gifts and a fight to get in for a good look at everything. All of this bearing in mind we went in low season! The temple itself isnt spectacular but is worth seeing to understand local style. Bear in mind that you cant visit the main areas (for good reason, its still an active temple).
(20) I like this temple much more than Tanah Lot temple it is bigger and has amazing views. Be ware of the monkeys though, they got her sunglasses in a second and they didn't give it back 😜. It is better if you go there when it is not too sunny because when I went there it was so hot I couldn't see all the temple. Near this area there is the padam padam beach, check it out.
(21) Tanah Lot is best visited at the end of your tour to catch the majestic sunset in Bali. There would surely be many tourists in the area but you should not pass the opportunity because of this. There are many spots to take the perfect shot of the sunset and it is breathtaking.
(22) Excellent place to see when u are in Bali...beautiful view and amazing temple in the ocean...toilets are clean and you can bargain in tanah lot to get the best deals....the young coconut as you finish your tour is sweet and tasty...
(23) Tanah Lot is one of the seven temples of the sea in Bali. Try to time your trip there during low tide. Then you can walk out to see the temple and the guardian sea snakes.
(24) Tanah Lot is a huge tourist attraction in Bali. Many Indonesians travel from other islands to visit, and it is also packed with foreign tourists. This means it is quite crowded. The temples are breathtaking, but you can not enter the temples themselves. If you find yourself in the area, it is worth making a trip to Tanah Lot to see the sun set and view the temples.
(25) Tanah Lot is a Hindu temple in Bali, which has a breathtaking natural splendor, it stands on solid sea rock in the Indian ocean. We visited this place in the evening around 4.30PM. There was low tide, hence we could walk through the temple. Temple site has got awesome views. The place was crowded though. In front of Tanah Lot temple, there is a natural water spring which is called Beji. You can take the water home in a container, drink it or even wash your face with it (makes you feel blessed). After you are done, you will be blessed with prayer and a flower, as an offering in return, you can make a nominal monetary donation. .\nThere were lot many shops outside for shopping clothes and sovereigns, There were few vendors offering photos with giant Python (quite long) for 100000 IDR, etc. Sunset views were awesome, Should be in must watch list
(26) Tanah Lot is simply gorgeous. We went at Sunset which made it even better. The only downfall is the thousands of other people also enjoying the beauty. Our tour guide said over 5000 people view Tanah Lot every day. It's worth the trip, just expect there to be quite a few people around.
(27) Tanah lot is the temple worship the sea god.it was the second time i visited this temple, the first time many years ago,and due to limited time,i stayed not longer there,so not impressed with it.the second time was last year in August,i stayed within tanah lot area, this time i have a good chance to explore the temple.during the stay,i went there two times,i noticed that around 2pm,it is low tide,so you can access to the temple by foot.before you cant, the sea will block your way.but you cant enter the temple, cuz it opened for religious purposes only.there is a priest there ,you can donate some money,he will cleanse you by holy water, also will paste some rices on your forehead.heard that if the rices still there after two hours ,you will be the lucky man.there is a cave with sea snakes, have to donate too, then you can see the snakes.the sunset here is famous, but that time,i cant see the beautiful sunset,so sad.maybe next time will come again.just opposite the temple, there is a hill, and there are many restaurants at the hill,so you can have dinner there, and see the temple and sunset while eating.
(28) There was temple in the middle of the beach. Better come when sunset so u can enjoy the ambience. It took 3hr from dps to tanah lot.
(29) I visited the Tanah Lot Temple yesterday with my husband right before sunset, and I highly recommend doing so at that time. Bali can not only be very humid, but also hot. We arrived around 5:00 local time (they close at 7:00) and that was enough time to see the temple. The cliffs overlooking the beach and temple are breathtaking. Talk about some great photo opportunities. There are places where you can gain access to views a little closer but that requires a donation and holy water blessing from a priest. I had an incredible time here, and would advise others to come and see this for themselves.
(30) Even if you're not into the culture of Bali, I would suggest a visit to Tanah Lot Temple, its location in excellent if you're into photography and the sunset shots are worth the wait but arrive early so you can get a good position.if you want a different angle to seek the temple walk through the shops up the hill towards the gate of the golf club an look back towards the temple.if you go at low tide you are able to go to the temple and have a look around, but most of all just enjoy Tanah Lot
(31) Did a tour and visited Tanah lot temple. To many people, rubbish everywhere. Bloody hot, waiting for something spectacular at sunset, sunset better at home. Worth a visit if near by. Best view would be in a boat .
(32) Good ethnic place but not one of my favorite. I guess it's overdone. Lots of big temples in Bali, but Tanah Lot was very touristic and very tinny.
(33) Tanah Lot Temple is one of the most popular places in Bali to see . Best time to go is the sun set time , or in the morning. Its a unique temple built inside the water and the walk to the temple is through a rock plank from the beach through the water. when we went there was a high tide and the path to the temple was covered with large water waves and so we couldn't go inside the temple. The outside view of it was also worth the visit. There were beautiful large waves and we could see the rainbow through those waves which in itself was an amazing experience.
(34) We expected it to be a lot bigger than it actually is. Although it is beautiful, the day we went was dull and gloomy, so this sort of ruined the day also but I would recommend other attractions over this such as Tanah Lot which I believe are more impressive.
(35) There's no doubt about it, Tanah Lot is beautiful regardless of the time of day. But as it is on of the main tourist attractions it gets very over crowded fast, especially at sunset. Granted it is magical and sunset and it is understandable that so many people want to witness that. But if you're intending to have the place to yourself and get stunning photos with no one getting in your way then I would think again. Always worth a visit to see some rich balinese history in such a stunning location. If you're climbing the rocks around the area please take caution, the waves can get pretty big and the rocks get slippery fast.\nIf you're looking for something special/adventurous there's a little stall that does Luwak coffee and there are a few of them walking around which is incredible to see. Really cute little creatures.
(36) Tanah Lot temple is on a large rock next to the shore. During low tide, you can walk to the base of the rock and offer prayers there. You cannot enter the temple per se. \n\nThe view of the temple from the surrounding rocks is amazing. It is surely one of the ideal locations to watch sunset on a clear evening, the other one being Uluwatu temple. But no matter what time of the day you visit Tanah Lot, it is a sight to behold. \n\nThe entrance to the temple area is IDR 15000 and to reach the temple, visitors must walk through a bunch of souvenir shops which cover each side of the path. Pura Batu Bolong, another temple in the Tanah Lot area, situated a short distance north of Pura Tanah Lot sits on a rock wth a hole and hence its name. Its good to watch the waves hit the rock n splash in the air.
(37) This temple has been built bang in the middle of the ocean. Hats off to the builders for conceiving such a marvel of architecture. Braving high tide, I really wonder how this structure achieved completion.\n\nSadly we reached this spot around 6.30 by when the Sun had already set and we just about managed to see it's silhouette. But the scenery was magnificent with the foamy waves splashing against the walls of Tanah Lot. Picture perfect!\n\nGet there by 5 PM. There is a nominal admission fee. Another Bali attraction on your bucket list.
(38) We enjoyed visiting Tanah Lot Temple. There is no dress code. \n\nAt low tide you can walk over to the base of the temple. There were plenty of places to eat at reasonable prices and lots of market stalls. \n\nNow is the right time to go as it isnt too busy.
(39) I have to rate Tanah Lot 5-star just because of its unique and wonderful appearance at any time of day in any weather conditions. I have looked at it many times over the past 40 years and it never fails to make me feel good inside. Aesthetically, however, the appalling tourist development right up to the shoreline have ruined the tranquility and if you hate crowds (BIG crowds!) your enjoyment of the location might well be ruined too.\n\nSo, get up really early, and as we did, arrive there at 08:00. At that time, the carparks were almost empty, the hundreds of shops were largely still closed, and the only other visitors we saw were Indonesian. It was a misty overcast morning with a smattering of rain, and a big surf crashing along the shoreline. But just glorious!\n\nUnless you love being with massive, noisy coach loads of package tourists, avoid a late afternoon/sunset visit at all costs
(40) We did a day tour and ended with Tanah Lot at sunset, it is beautiful and a great site to see. It was not as crowded for it being sunset, and everywhere you looked was picture worthy scenery. It is worth the visit!
(41) One of the best places in Bali to watch sunset with Tanah Lot temple as back ground. Located in Tabanan Regency.
(42) Its something you fell in love with! Seeing Tanah Lot was truly awesome and refreshing. It was about an hour travel from Kuta we paid an entrance of 30,000 IDR each and we did enjoy shopping for souvenir items as well.
(43) The rain was closing in and this site had to be speedily visited. Again tourists were plentiful making photography a matter of patience. The pagoda style sanctuary is ideally set. It is not an easy site to appreciate holistically and form a clear view of Hindhu practice. The Buddhist feature on the landward side is an interesting feature. Toilets, shops and refreshments are all available.
(44) The Hindu temple at Tanoh lot has some astonishing architecture and some exceptional sea beach & cliff views. As like most other bali temples, entry in to the main sanctum is denied for the tourists. The entry ticket is 60000 Ruppiah per person. The complex is well maintained. There are a wide variety of restaurants offering many international cuisines in the temple complex. I also purchased a few dresses and gifts from the shops near the entrance. Tanah lot is a must-do if you are in Bali.
(45) Tanah lot temple is a temple within sea water. The closest you are allowed to go is the cave entry. General people are not allowed to enter the main section. In spite of it,it presents an excellent view, the main temple is having trees all around. The area in front of the temple is rocky, but you can walk on it and enjoy the view. Sunset is very beautiful to watch there. When we went there some school program was going on and the view was more colorful. We had to wait for that program tiens before we can walk into the front beach area of the temple. It is a must visit place in Bali.
(46) Tanah Lot Temple definitely is a must of your To-visit list when in Bali - however, if you go close to sunset, it might be quite crowded. There are many people offering you souvenirs and the crowds of tourists might be annoying at times but it compensates the picturesque view. You better go there in the morning in order to enjoy the place in a comparatively pieceful surrounding and avoiding the high tide. Also if you go to watch the sunset, you need to plan about 1 hour more to go out of the attraction due to the heavy traffic. And a minor comment - you need to pay for the restrooms, which was a bit of surprise!
(47) It took a while to get to Tanah Lot from Sanur, as there were many small one lane roads taken to get there. \n\nHowever I got there right before sunset and had the opportunity to see it in full light and as the sun went down. Overall the grounds were beautiful. I was able to get some amazing pictures even though it was very crowded.\n\nIf you walk all the way down, you can actually walk through the water over to the temple, (I think there is a fee for that). It was amazing to see, so close up. I only wish that there were fewer people as it can feel much more like a tourist attraction rather than an amazing temple.\n\nIf you walk along the top you will come across some shops and places to eat or get a drink. This is a perfect place to sit and take in the view if you have the time. \n\nOverall, I feel like this is a \must see\" location. Although there were many people and lots of traffic getting in and out, it is worth the time. The only reason I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 is the amount of people."
(48) To say the rock formation at Tanah lot is just spectacular is an understatement, I was completely awed by the beauty of Bali's nature; The visual effect of this unique rock formation, combined with gentle sea breeze and soothing sound of the waves created an atmosphere for rejuvenation. \n\nEverything seemed perfect though too much touting by the local vendors. \n\nNote: Try to visit the temple on the island during low tide, beware of sea snakes near the cave opposite the temple.
(49) One of the best places to visit in Indonesia, Bali is a lovely island full of fun and culture, Tanah Lot Temple a most to visit
(50) The most unique thing I found when I visited Tanah Lot was the snakes there that are claimed to be 'holy', are actually a water snake. Usually water snakes are very venomous, but these snakes are actually friendly and the people there said that these snakes never bite people. Fort those who never hold a snake before, this is where you can try it for once.\nAnd on the way out, you can found some traditional markets on the left and right side of the road.
(51) It has an entrance fee. Tanah lot is a big area that is close to the sea. Don't worry about food and drinks, they have a lot of stalls there selling corn and snacks. I couldn't catch the sunset since it was raining at that time. So i enjoyed the rough sea and tide instead. Expect a lot of tourists.
(52) On my solo day trip in Bali, this was the first place I chose to visit. It was a morning of clear blue skies, Tanah lot temple looked most beautiful and pristine. The naturL beauty of the place has been restored most carefully, even with the large number of tourists visiting this place every day. There is a feeling of calmness around this place.\nI would love to visit this place again of when I go to Bali again.
(53) Tanah Lot was on the list of places to visit long before we left the UK. Hired a driver to the day from Nusa Dua, leaving at 2:00pm, we headed to Jimbaran Bay for late lunch, then onto Tanah Lot hoping to see the sunset.\nIt was quite a moving place and even though you cannot go inside the Temple itself, you can venture down to the waters edge and get up quite close or walk along the cliff edge where there are many cafes with a tables offering great views especially for the sunset. It was a great end to the day.
(54) Tanah Lot never disappoints and is a must see on every trip. Yes, it's a tourist mecca with thousands of people there daily. Go on an outgoing tide and you'll at least get a bit more of a breather from the crowds. Stay till after sunset - its worth it!
(55) I had read about Tanah Lot and the fact that it was so crowded, but I went anyway.\nThe reviews were right, extremely crowded, so not so pleasant to walk around. Tanah Lot itself was dissapointing, but I liked the other small tempel on the cliff with a hole in it (don't know the name anymore). I have to say, the sunset there was beautiful!
(56) I enjoyed the sunset at one of the restaurants in Tanah Lot. nice view, directly facing the temple and we can see the sunset clearly. but for food it doesn't match the price. I imagine the price is expensive for good food. be careful to buy food
(57) Tanah Lot provides one of the best spots to view the beautiful sunset in Bali. It is certainly a great place for photographers to take pictures of the temple against the golden scene of sun set. Next to the place of interest, visitors can walk a short distance to locate a nice restaurant by the side of the mountain to have a romantic dinner with your loved ones too.
(58) I have been visiting Bali for 20 years but, never made it to Tanah Lot so, I did a tourist day from Ubud and hit some major spots. Tanah Lot was really beautiful, like all the photos you see. You can't get out to it though and be aware that although it's gorgeous, the sunset actually happens over another little temple. Worth the trip though!
(59) Spent dusk out at Tanah Lot Temple. Is worth the trip just for the pics. Would have been nicer if it had been a clear sunset but we couldn't change that on the day. Plenty of stalls nearby selling foods, drinks and everything else Bali so no need to take anything with you just a camera.
(60) Tanah Lot is one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. Its very sunny and sweaty out there. You may like to bring hats, Sunscreen etc. \nIts a good place to spend 2-3 hours
