(1) Decide to go for the real summit and midway through, left with 200m (estimate 2 hours more) too tired to even move anymore. I would suggest either be experienced enough to be properly paced or physically trained for the endurance. Otherwise, probably camp around for a while and take proper rest.\n\nNevertheless, I'm glad we skipped the second summit and went even higher, the view was amazing on the other side.
(2) Here just an advice for people who don't like to book a tour and who are not interested in sunrises. I climbed Mount Batur all by myself without a guide during the day. The trek starts 1 km after Songan village (take a left). After 500 meters there is sand way, park your bike here. It takes about 1 hour to climb up this side of Batur, very nice view. On the way back you need Trekking sticks, I just took some wood from the tree, that turned out to be totally fine, its very slippery in the sand. Do not climb this way in the dark! This is a daytime trek!\n\nDuring the whole trek no one crossed my way, so maybe this is a little secret ;) enjoy!\n\nIf you dont find the was, ask some of the onion farmers, theyll help you out!\n\n(Female, 28 years old, good fitness, but smoker)
(3) Viewed the Mount Batur volcano and lake from a road side observation area, and thus did not climb the mountain itself. Even so, this is pretty spectacular scenery and well worth a visit. I was able to combine this site with a number of other activities including a local temple and the nearby Mahagiri Restaurant for lunch during a day tour with private driver from Sanur.\n\nOn the day I visited, a number of fairly persistent street hawkers/vendors were out, but overall, they were not a major problem.
(4) It was very nice. We get up very early in the morning to have this tour but really it worthed the effort. There were a lot of people but eventually was fine. You have to climb the mount for about one hour , not very difficult, and then you can enjoyed every single second of the sunrise . After the sunrise you can walk all around the mount and see the crater of the volcan. There are many tours to choose but I guess more or less they all provide the same .service.
(5) It toke 2 hours from the starting point to the finish point where we watched the sunrise . We started to walk from 4 AM and arrived around 6 AM .\n\nThe path was quite challenging , it's not suitable for people with bad shape , elder people , or if you bring children . Near the finish line the track became challenging yet rewarding .\n\nWhen you finished watch the sunrise , there will be other thing that you can see such as the crater and the natural hot steam come from small crater which came from underground active lava .\n\nGoing back to the starting point was more difficult , especially for people with stability issue ( senior citizen , or people with some ankle problem ) , and can lead to serious injury if you're not careful . Yet , with proper attire such as decent sport shoes and physical preparation before doing the hiking this track will be very rewarding .\n\nIn a nutshell :\n\nNumber of people in this trip : 5\n\nTime to travel from our hotel at Petitenget to Kintamani was 2 hours ( the driver got us on 2AM) .\n\nTrekking start from 4AM and arrived the destination at 6AM\n\nWe pay with rupiah , the amount we pay was around 40USD for transport . From Petitenget to Kintamani (mt.Batur ) , Ubud than back to our hotel at Petitenget at 6 .\n\nWe paid 70 USD for 5 people to a guide who accompanying us from the starting point to the peak .\n\nIt was a great journey . It's a worth to try if you seeking for some adventurous , nature trip . It might challenging for people with bad shape yet still doable .
(6) Wasn't prepared to climb the mountain. But the guide and the tour guide was nice enough to wait for us. We were taking our time.\n\nNot as dangerous as I thought. Please wear shoes. The terrain is Super rocky. Tiring but when you reach the top.. The view is really breathless. Will do it again when I come to Bali!
(7) Having previously done the sunrise climb of Mt Batur with ease we thought we'd give the big hill a go (at over 3,000 metres). We are pretty fit for our age (late 40s early 50s) and expected a challenge but this really pushed us. The climb up above the temple from the short route took 4hrs 30 minutes and acended 1,500 metres. Stay close to your guide as there is no marked track above the tree line and plenty of hazards. A lot of scrambling and climbing involved, no special skills or ropes necessary but a good head torch and fluids needed for the acent. Great sunrise atop a classic volcanic caldera, but it is cold up there so you need something warm.\nThe descent is the real challenge, keep your toenails trimmed and chose your footwear carefully - will destry your good Nike's. Take your time, not too many people around to rush you, and you will have monkeys keeping you company. Finished off the trip at great outdoor buffett, not usually the best thing in Bali but the outlook was stunning.
(8) We arranged this tour with Ubud Sunrise Trekking through Puri Surinam Bisma where we were staying at in very short time. We booked it around 5pm Sunday and were getting picked up for the hike at 2am later that night. There were 4 other guests from our place doing the same hike, 2 were in our same group. It was a larger group of 12, we 4 Canadians, 4 Americans, 2 Swiss and 2 British. Our 9 and 13 year old sons were the only kids in the group but had no problem with the hike. I've read other posts of kids as young as 6 doing this hike.\n\nWe had done this same hike almost 20 years but it has changed a lot. Before there were perhaps 10 people total including us doing the hike, now with the increase in tourism there were 100s of people. If you don't like crowds try a different hike. As we hiked up the mountain it looked like a giant snake trail of lights and was quite pretty to look at. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of that.\n\nAnother couple at our place got picked up in a car but the 4 of us and another couple had to wait for a larger van to pick us up. We had to wait a bit before getting picked up but they did come back and get us. We were running about 45 minutes late as we made several pickups and our van did not go that fast as it was fully loaded with 13 people including the driver.\n\nWe had brought 2 600ml water but our hike skis included a water for each of us so I brought 2 more do 4 total. They also provided a light breakfast of deep fried banana which was tasty and some hot tea. We had brought some other snacks as we correctly guessed that our kids would not try that so keep that in mind. You could buy snacks here and there was another place at the bottom of the hike where you could buy drink or snacks. I'd probably buy ahead of time do you can get exactly what you want.\n\nWayan Soma our guide was great telling us lots of information and made sure to keep track of everyone in our group of 12 so nobody was left behind! We gave him a good tip! I didn't realize it last erupted only 17 years ago. You could peer down one of the craters, be careful not to get too close to the edge as people have fallen on before and died, the last being only 7 years ago.\n\nTook about 2 hours to get very close to the top. There is a stopping point with a medium sized hut and also people selling food and drink walking around. Most people congregated here and you watched the amazing sunrise with several hundred of your closest acquaintances. Someone even brought a drone which was unfortunate but don't be surprised as that happened elsewhere.\n\nThe hike is not hard. We wore light pants after reading some posts but shorts would be fine and you won't get as hot. We also brought hoodies/sweaters to layer ourselves as you be adding or removing clothes depending on where you are in the hike. Good shoes (hiking, trainers) are mandatory but some people were stupid enough to be wearing flip flops. The hard and loose rock will cut up your feet if you're not wearing proper shoes. If you have asthma make sure you have your inhaler as the air and humidity did cause issues for 1 person in our group.\n\nMake sure you have brought enough water, 2-3 600ml bottles was enough for the 4 of us. Snacks are good too especially if you have kids. The hike also included a hard boiled egg, some bread and a banana which some people ate near the top but we didn't eat until we came back down.\n\nSunrise was around 6:30 - 6:45am. The view at the top is worth it! There was some cloud moving in and out but it did not spoil the incredible view! Try and check the weather forecast before you book so you can insure you get the best chance for good pictures on the day.\n\nWe took a longer but safer way back down and were down by about 8:30am. We stopped by a coffee plantation on the way back and sampled some local ciders and teas. I enjoyed the lemongrass tea, ginger tea, ginseng coffee, coconut coffee and vanilla coffee. A good pick me up after the hike. We didn't get back to our hotel until about 11am. We'd recommend this hike and Ubud Sunrise Trekking to anyone! Cost was 350,000 IR per person so 1,400,000 IR for the 4 of us. Not that expensive but you could probably get the price lower.
(9) Hiked up Batur with guide from \Bali Sunrise Trekking and tour\" .\n\nQuiet night hike up for me, camped up for the night.\nJul high season saw thousands of tourists (yes thousands) reaching the summit from 430am to catch sunrise.\nBadly worn tracks greeted me on the descent, which can make it a little tricky without proper equipment. Bring old hiking shoes u don't want to wash again.\n\nToilets are best au naturale: which are probably cleaner than the wooden huts they have on the trial up.\n\nKids above 7yo were seen hiking up."
(10) You are attracted there by the valley, the volcano and the lake, plus the balinese people that all together make you feel in the real nature, where local life combines with the environment.
(11) Unfortunately we went on a bit of a cloudy day and when we finally reached the crater we couldn't see anything further than 10m in front of us. Basically make sure it's a clear, sunny day or it's a bit of a wasted journey. The walk up was pretty tough nearly 4hrs up and 3hrs down, everyone had jelly legs by the end. The walk was slippy with lots of loose rubble and pretty challenging. If you're physically fit and have a pair of trainers you can do this climb, however make sure you take warm clothes for the top as it was freezing!! We had a local guide who was fun and made sure we were ok the whole way and shared his snacks with us. If it had been a clear day I would've given this 5* (picture is from the crater's edge)
(12) unforgettable experience ..MOUNT BATUR with amazing sunrise..thanks to our guide😍😍😍 MADE LOMBOK😘😘😘 ..friendly..helppull n very funny .. you made our holliday perfect 😊😊
(13) We made the top with half an hour to spare. Beautiful sunrise, a few boiled eggs, a walk around the top and then back down. We then went to a coffee plantation\n\n
(14) The climb up for sunrise wasn't too bad at all. I was expecting it to be worst but hey with friendly guides and other guests as well, it was fun and laughter all the way! Although I wouldn't recommend toddlers for the climb. Get a package if you are in a big group.
(15) We started getting hassled by locals about 10km from the actual mountain. A man rode up to us on his scooter saying there were police ahead and they would want $100US from each of us and he stopped us to tell us this because he was wanting good karma. We sped away from him, but it was just strange. This is just one example of several we encountered before even getting a site of the mountain. We had been told that you don't need a guide to trek and despite what the signs say at the entrance and the many guides harassing you, that you can actually walk on your own. We were told, by a guide in the parking lot, that you don't really need a guide and to go ahead on our own. There was only one of us in our small group who wanted to hike so they went ahead and we were cussed out like no other. This man threw nearly every English curse word at us. We wished him a Happy New Year and drove away. We returned to pick up our trekker to find that they had taken nearly all the air out of both scooter tires. Pulling into the repair shop, she said \you didn't get a guide?...they don't like it when people don't get guides.\" The guides are pushy, demanding and forceful, but it sure beats wondering what they are doing to your vehicle while you are out on a beautiful trek. We advise getting a guide."
(16) One of my favorite sightseeing places in bali! Local food buffet lunch overlooking the volcano is just super awesome!!!
(17) So we'd been reading online that it's possible to hike up Mt Batur without a guide at sunrise so we set off with the intention to do just that. However nothing could be further from the truth. After arriving in the village at the bottom of the volcano on our scooter, we were flagged down by a group of men on the side of the road trying to sell us a guide for the mountain. We told them that we didn't want a guide right now and drove on. A couple of minutes later two men on a motorbike corner us and got really aggressive telling us that this was their mountain and we needed a guide to even be in the area at this time... One of them was holding a knife at this point so we told them we'd just leave. On the way out of the village another man claiming he worked for the government blocked our way saying we had to buy a guide and started taking pictures of our bike for 'evidence'. At this point it was pretty clear we weren't going to get anywhere on our own and we'd already made the effort to get to the mountain in the first place so we gave in and paid 300,000idr each for a guide which turned out to be a 15 year old boy who spoke no English. Moral of the story... Just buy a guide and make your life easier and a little less scary.
(18) The view of this volcano was incredible, the guide helpful from start in the dark early morning, he prefer light breakfast banana sandwiches cooked by volcanic steam. Really recommended this experience when you holiday to Bali.
(19) An amazing experience to climb Mt Batur, we started at 4.00am after being picked up by Bali Sunrise Tours, given coffee before we started, a torch & a very experienced knowledgeable guide.\nThe climb up was easy for the first half then got more challenging as the ground became slippy & steep but our guide kept an eye on us always asking if we needed to stop for a break or if we were ok.\nAt the top it was amazing & watching the sunrise takes your breath away with its beauty.\nWe had eggs that been cooked in the steam, fruit & a choice of hot drinks.\nComing down was much easier even though in places still very unsteady under foot.\nI would defiantly recommend this trip & trekking company it was well worth every penny.
(20) The scenary is nice and it's worth going there for the sunrise. On the top you can get a breakfast or just a cup of tea or coffee. Take warm clothes it can be cold since it's at night and up to 2000m.\nMost of the tour operators in Bali will propose you a package including transportation, guide and breakfast on top. If you want to do it differently and cheaper try to get just the transport and go without a guide. The path is really easy and well indicated and you you can also just follow the crowdth. Everyone will tell you you absolutely need a guide but it's wrong! They will hassle you from the moment you get off the car on the parking but you can always ignore them or tell them you are with another group and leave.\nIf you don't want packages you can also hire a guide from the parking. I guess in this way the money will go for the guides and not for the tour operators.\nIt will take you around 2 hours to reach the top if I remember well.
(21) I've climbed Mt Batur twice and the scenery on top memorizes me each time. The sunrise is gorgeous (if it's not cloudy) and the view of Lake Batur is gorgeous. The guides were patient & most speak ok English. They're helpful and very nimble. I would definitely climb it again when I visit Bali next time. It's always a joy to see the beautiful sunrise and appreciate our Mother Nature.
(22) I booked the tour through my hotel and went for the hiking last night. I paid 370,000IDR.\nThey picked me and other guests up at 2 a.m., drove us to a guest house which functions as office for the tour company, offered us a small breakfast there and then drove us to the starting point.\nI was told by my guesthouse that I would be in a group of 4 with 1 guide. I was with other 17 people and 3 guides.\nWe started the walk at 3h50. The first hour is really easy, paved road first and then a easy hike. We walked quite fast and did not need to stop.\nWe stopped at one point where there is a temple and some guys selling drinks.\nAfter that point it starts getting more challenging, quite steep and slippery. After another 10 minutes I realized that it was getting too steep, too many lose rocks, too slippery. It would have been really difficult to walk down.\nI asked one of the guide for help but he did not answered. Maybe he did not even understand. His English was very poor, close to zero.\nI told him that I could not continue without help, he replied that I could walk back to the parking by myself and wait there. I asked him to come with me and help me (Walking down is more challenging and it was still completely dark).\nHe told me to wait there and went away.\nI was left alone, in the middle of a mountain, in the dark, in the cold. For 3 hours.\nMore groups were walking up and I asked two guides to look for my group (my group name was 'oren') and a ask 1 guide to come back to me.\nNobody arrived.\nAt one point, around 6h15, I see a man coming down from the top. He immediately offers to help me and walk me down to the area near the temple. Once there he starts to demand for money. I felt scared and gave him 50,000IDR as he requested.\nAfter this episode I was really scared of being alone there but I had no other option but wait.\nGroups start walking down, not my group though. They did not seem to be on a hurry to come and find me....\nEventually they arrive. I tell them I want to speak to someone. They understand I'm not ok but they do not really get what I'm saying.\nWe walk back 1 hour to the parking area where I can explain the driver what happened. He calls the owner of the agency who explains to me that guides are assigned randomly when the groups arrive there and there is nothing a tour agency can do to ensure you get good guides that speak some basic English. He offers to refund me 250,000IDR and I accept.\nI did other vulcano hikes, I am average fit, but I am afraid of heights and would have just needed a hand to make it to the top. Unfortunately I did not get it.\nI felt sad that I could not see that beautiful sunset because of some unprofessional careless guides.\nI'm glad I came back home safe.\n
(23) This trek is of average difficulty climbing from around 1000m to 1717m and could be achieved in around 2 hours for slow climbers. The only hazard are the loose rocks. The views are amazing and worth the sacrifice of waking up early and leaving the hotel at 2.00am. The trek route is relatively clean compared to other trek routes.\nSuggestions: stay in Ubud so that you dont have to wake up too early. If you are elderly better to have a private tour (additional cost) with your own personal guide so that you can dictate the pace of your hike. Dont expect too much from the breakfast.
(24) We engaged a private driver to take us to Mount Batur trekking at 500.000 Rupiah / person.\n\nWe were picked up by the driver at 1.15am at our hotel which is located at Dusa Nua. Around 3am, we reached Mount Batur. It was freezing cold and there were alot of guides standing around. We were allocated a guide randomly.\n\nOur guide was fantastic and hand held us along the steep areas. You have to be very careful as there are alot of loose stones. You could slip easily. It was pitch darkness there. On and off, we rested as it can get breathless as you climbed higher. The dark sky was beautiful as it was decorated with alot of stars!\n\nAfter around 2.5hrs of climbing, we reached the half summit at around 5.30am. We waited near to 1 hr for dawn to break. It was so beautiful to view the lake and the 2 volcanoes in front of us.\n\nIt was a real tiring trek but it was well worth the effort! But be prepared to have aching legs for the next few days!
(25) A bit of a drive and payment to enter Kintamani is required for tourists. Not much but I find that a bit annoying.Great view from the restaurant along with some ok food and cold Bintang. In your face locals flogging assorted crap is a bummer.Almost got in my car trying to get a sale.
(26) We used Bali Trekking Tour Net and contacted Jero through his WatsApp at +6281904082208, we were very pleased with services offered. Start from reservation until the end of our trip was excellent.\n\nWe got 2 guides from Jeros team, they are Ketut and Putu, both of them jeros uncle. They are awesome guy, friendly, care, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We were warm welcome from both of them in base cam of hike. They provide us a bottle of mineral water, torches and trekking poles. Finally we began hike at 4am, on the first trail easy and walk under jungle but the rest of jungle was tiring. Here you need big effort in every single step. Rocky, sandy and slippery ii was the challenge. We are lucky has Ketut and Putu, they help all of us and make sure we are reach the summit before sunrise. Finally we made before 6am. Without both of them we cant made it before sunrise.\n\nThe views from the summit stunning, breakfast was yummy but too crowded, better moving to the west hill if you want privacy, there one hill were you can stunning sunrise. Ketut and Putu was drop us to that place where we feel better than the other sport.\n\nTons thanks to Ketut and Putu, especially for Jero, thank you very much for send us 2 incredible guide, we strongly recommended your team to everyone.
(27) I have visited Bali many times, and from Amed, we have a fantastic sunset view with Mount Agung as the background. As divers, we know why Liberty Shipwreck becomes so famous all because of the eruption of this SACRED mountain. So when one of our divemasters at Jukung Dive Bali said he had never climbed this mountain, and our diver guests often asked him about this, we decided to do this with all of our dive masters and with a Belgian guest.\n\nI must say that it's really challenging, far more difficult than I expected! You must be very fit, and need a very guide to do this. We started from 2:00am in the morning at the foot the mountain to expect to reach to the summit before sunrise. The first part of the hike consisted of a trail through vegetation. Eventually, the trails made way to a short level ground before the rocky section. Beautiful city lights in the distance. But then half way, it's just all rock climbing, the last part is just 45 degree climbing! Without the help of our guide Wayan Widi Yasa, as the only female in the group with a low sugar crisis after 15 minutes' climbing from the beginning, I think that I would never make it without his help.\n\nAll of us managed to reach the summit just on time for the sunrise, the view on the top is fantastic and rewarding! From the crater rim, Rinjani is visible to the East of Agung, Bali itself to the South, and clouds can be seen forming and moving in from the West.\n\nClimbing up was still OK for me, but going down was just killing me. As an awkward person, even normal trekking to come down is difficult for me, but with Mount Agung, there's just often no place to put your feet on the rocks, and it's just so slippery with fog and dews. Wayan, our guide, just became my lift STICK. Without him, I think that I would be stuck in the mountain as least for 4-5 hours more. We spent total 3:30 to go up and about 3 hours to come down, and I did see many trekkers just had difficulties to come down like me if I don't have my guide.\n\nDon't underestimated the difficulty of mount Agung, a good preparation is important, and a good guide, I'll definitely recommend our guide if you want to do this.
(28) My friend and I ascended Mt Agung on March 6th, which is still during the rainy season. We chose to take the new route up from Pasar Agung to the summit. This path is barely indicated and clearly not doable without a guide. The last two hours are indeed most of the time an ascension on all fours, with some parts where you think that if you fall, you could very well get badly hurt or die. It's really just a question of being careful and having proper shoes. It rained for most of our ascension and we still managed to do it.\n\nAs everyone says, the summit is incredible and very well worth it. Since it was rainy season, there were some clouds around, but we were above most and could still get a beautiful orange-lit skyline over Mount Rinjani.\n\nThe path up from Pasar Agung is so steep that we chose to go down to Besakih Temple, which is the longer route (9.8km) down, but it seemed much safer. The way down was still even scarier than the way up, but it's manageable. It's even more important to have proper shoes for the way down. My friend had standard Nike running shoes instead of running shoes and kept slipping. He also totally ruined the sole of his shoes that were 2 months old because they aren't made for this. We started the hike at 12:45 at night, reached the summit at 5 and left the summit at 7. We finally arrived at Besakih Temple at 11:15. (By the way, the Besakih Temple feels like a huge tourist scam and would recommend not going there. Go read the reviews on TripAdvisor before).\n\nLooking back, this hike was amazing and I recommend it to everyone that think they can manage walking for +10 hours on a sketchy path. The way up from Pasar Agung and way down to Besakih was a perfect itinerary for us and we would recommend it. Our guide was the popular Wayan guide that everyone on TripAdvisor takes and was extremely nice. He also spoke good english. Do remember to bring additional snacks though, as what he brings for you will probably not be enough.
(29) Who been to bali and didn't visit Batur, his tour was so poor.\nOne of the best places in Bali with great views and cool weather\nWalking market, terrace views and local foods are so awesome\nStrongly recommended for all who plan to visit Bali
(30) Woke up in the early morning and get ready for the Mount Batur sunrise trecking for the first time our visited in Bali. Estimate time of hiking took around 2 hours to reached. When we about to reached,it was a little cold up there. We didnt managed to get to the top as we run out of energy and already exhausted. When the sunrise awake, the sky started to created the beautiful and shining morning view. Stunning and breath taking morning please us to stay and snap more picture. We decided walked to the other side as our mountain guide mention about the west side, where there alot of intresting place to discover and sigh seeing.\n\nSpecial thanks to our mount guide Putu, who willing to bring us around and introduce some of the Mount Batur history. Wild monkey also been spotted around at the mountain. There was a small cave where the local will went in for meditation and a prayer for good. He also shared with us about the last eruption of the volcano. Not forget also the 10 minute of hard boiled egg and baked banana as well(yes its did like an oven). He also show us the rock and its really make some noise when we hear it closely.\n\nAfter an few hour on the mountain,is time for us to go back. Very challenging because the way down is sandy and alot of rock. Its was fun,we are really enjoyed and having a good time. Dream came true and a great experience! No regret but happy and feel satisfied of our journey. Will miss Mount Batur and Bali for sure!
(31) Good hike, got picked up at 2am, went for coffee and small breakfast then to the mountain, started the hike at about 4am. There isn't really a proper path and some of the way is just volcanic ash so it's like you're walking up sand. So worth it at the top when you see a beautiful sunrise over the mountains and ocean. They say to dress warm but once you get hiking you'll be taking off your layers. I wore leggings and a t-shirt and was fine. I did have a hoodie with me but didn't wear it. Bring your Camera!
(32) Short trek with scenic views at summit! The first half of terrain is easy and the second half is steep slope with rocky terrains. Ash terrain from sunrise view point to summit, so be got to be really careful. Nonetheless good experience!!
(33) Although having arranged and organised our Mount Batur Sunrise hike with Discova, the 3am pick up still found us groggy and slightly under-prepared. Nevertheless, on the 2 hour drive from Ubud our Discova guide talked us through what to expect from the climb. Upon arriving at the start of the hike we met our local guide and were offered head torches and extra layers, and began the two hour hike to the summit.\n\nThe climb itself is not over strenuous (I swear I saw one girl do it in flip flops); our guide gave us the opportunity for multiple breaks and having come prepared with hiking boots the terrain wasn't overly difficult. In the last 45 minutes a lot of the climb is on a sandy layer, which can definitely take it out of you!\n\nOn arriving at the summit with good time until sunrise, we settled in at a suitable spot as our guide brought over a snack of eggs and bread - there is the option to get hot chocolates but these need to be paid for and as we'd brought no cash, we passed. Although the inevitable clouds did roll in as the sun was coming up, the majesty of the setting was definitely not lost. We spend a good hour at the summit before wandering back to the base and our Discova rep, ready for the drive back and a big breakfast to celebrate the hike completion.\n\nHonestly, the factor that brought this review down was the amount of idiotic tourists that were either tormenting the monkeys (although it was incredibly amusing seeing hungover tourists lose their food, and often much more, to those more opportunistic monkeys), flying drones over everyone or just generally not being respectful of those around them. Thankfully, they were in the minority.
(34) I joined a sunrise trekking tour last year,it was organized by Batur Volcano guesthouse where i stayed in June.it is one on one guided tour, the price is reasonable, the tour start at very early morning,my guide Yoki came to my room and knocked the door to wake me up,i was tired, but after shower,my body full of energy.i had some simple snacks and followed him to the mountain.the guesthouse location very close to Batur.Yoki very patience and helpful,he always asked if i am ok,sometimes he helped me to go up.there are two options to the peak of Batur,i chose the less harder part,it took more longer time.another option is harder, not easier to climb up,but take less time.after few hours,i make it,but exhausted.i rest there for a while,Yoki cook breakfast for me.unfortunetely, the weather not good, also misty, cant see the surise.so sad.after that we went down.on the wa,i took some ohotos,Yoki helped me a lot, after the tour,i tipped him.the tour has three routes.i chose the second one, which is medium route.but the weather not good,so i gave up.i just followed the same route to back to my guesthouse(it is the first route actually, but i didnt ask for refund, cuz it was me want to give up,too dangerous i think).so if you want to see the sunrise, better check the right season, heard that it is July or August.i think i will try again next time though it is quite challenging for me.
(35) The hike is wonderful. Walking up in the middle of the night is pretty spectacular, and I believe most people with a decent fitness level can do it. You can go to the first crater or to the top. The last part is a bit steep and sandy, but the summit is just amazing.\nThe trail is crowded, which is the only negative thing to say.\nDon't miss out on this, and please bring your camera!!
(36) I did this climb with absolutely no training, very little experience and just me and my guide who barely spoke to me. We climbed from the temple and I was shocked at the constant uphill, it was incredibly difficult. I made it almost to the summit but was terrified at some of the drops so turned back. I also climbed with just a pair of shorts, singlet and a new pair of boots...big mistake. I was freezing and it felt like every bone in both feet was broken by the time I got back down. Was disgusted with the amount of rubbish, especially around the temple where it just seemed it was thrown over the wall. It is very beautiful but be prepared. As also mentioned previously, cut your toe nails and wear well worn hiking shoes. I had blisters on parts of my feet I didn't think possible. Recovery difficult, I actually couldn't walk up or down stairs the following day but I found a gentle swim fixed that completely. Must say it's good to read others opinions of the difficulty of Agung. I thought I was being a bit soft because I couldn't finish it. Next time I'm going to trek Batur and once my daughter is old enough back to Agung, but this time with a lot more preparation.
(37) Took an hour ride from ubud to the bottom of the mountain and another couple of hour to reach the top. Trekking in darkness with only a torch is relatively safe since for the first 1.5 hour, the terrain you are trekking on are not so steep. However, the last 1/2 hour are steep and you will be on all fours at some point (though by that time, the sun is slowing rising and you will not be trekking in total darkness). What concerns me is the lack of barricade/ railing, acceptable for the adventurous but not acceptable for the cautious - you will wish for the barricade/ railings when you are going downhill, trust me. However, you and your sweat will be rewarded with, not only the magnificent sunrise view, but also the entire mountain, lake view on a clear day. Not thoroughly enjoy my breakfast as we have to fight with the flies for the bread. Sacrificing 4 hours of your sleep and lots of sweat in exchange for a mgnificent sunrise view - whether it is worthwhile depends on individual. If you have never exercise for quite some time, skip this trek.
(38) We left early from Ubud and arrived around 3 am, hiked in less than 2 hours and waited for sunrise while we ate a small box breakfast. The hike itself is not too bad but does have a few steep sections where you will have to stop to catch your breath. There are 3 levels where people stop to view sunrise and a complete loop around the rim. The first step can be done in about 1.5 hours and the second in about another 25 minutes, with the third another 10 or 15 minutes. The third is best if you want to continue around the rim for your return hike. The second where we stopped for sunrise had coffee and ho chocolate at $2.50 U.S. a cup but with the consideration that they hiked here to provide the service it is very reasonable. And it was nice to have a warm rink with the before sunrise higher altitude temperatures. You will be warm while you hike, but you will likely work up a good sweat so once you stop in the lower temps a good jacket is recommended. Maybe even small gloves or pockets to keep the hands warm. You could tell that the people who wore just t-shirts were really cold. Not a good idea. why not be comfortable!\nThe view was exceptional with some clouds, but we did see Mount Rinjini, Lombok Island in the distance and up close to mount agong (spelling). I was beautiful without a doubt and well worth the early morning and hike up to the top of the volcano. While climbing earlier than most we also had the cool view of those who followed with their lights following along the path behind and below us. They did supply flashlights, but we had our own headlamps.\nWhen the sun does rise and all your sunrise photos are complete you get a great view into the older volcano and get to see a few steam vents where you could warm your hands if they are still a little chilly. Great views of the surrounding valley. Well worth the trip. We paid $50 per person which covered our private driver and car, including the cost of the guide, entrance fee and boxed breakfast. We tipped our guide because he was very helpful with my wife who was shaking at times due to her fear of heights, but she did made it to the top and he was very considerate and helpful in all ways. Great little adveture for sure.
(39) 0230 from the villa near Seminyak. Once we got to the base, the 'Tour Office', they had to be woken and seemed a bit stunned. Anyway a guide was assigned (more on him later) and we were off. That little exercise took half an hour.\nThe idea is summit just before sunrise but me being old and tired I didn't quite make it but the kids did. The 4 of us on a family trip to Bali in 2009.\nThe climb I guess isn't that rough if you are half fit, I needed a few breaks.\nBeing the last to arrive I was surprised to see at least 20 people or so at the shack near the summit. Monkeys everywhere so automatically you check what's loose on your skin.\nAnyway the view is spectacular, a wonderful vista. Looking down at the lake and across to another volcano was really beautiful. After a bit of a rest at the shack, we wandered about the area, were shown some caves, a couple small steam vents. A short walk around. Up near the top there is a fair expanse to walk around.\nThe edge of the actual crater is NOT fenced off so be careful. There is growth so a slip could be fairly easy. Sort of reminded me of the edge of Dunottar.\nSo, the guide on an 'All inclusive' tour. Remember, Bali is still Indonesia and they expect cold hard cash seperately, the guide. I believe the tour was $30 a head, we already had a driver with the villa. The guide was basically a ____bag, fawning all over one of my daughters the whole time, pretty sad really watching a 40+ yo guy making an ____ of himself. My other daughter would have given him a knuckle sandwich, this one would also, but very considerate at the time I guess. When he pestered her for a phone number I almost let him have it. Needless to say he was disappointed when he got his handout...\nThe trip back down in the daylight was good, it is a nice area, wonderful scenery. I actually found an old 'Kongsi', an old lead token in the dirt on the way down, used many many years back in history. Back at the villa by noon, a good trip, well worth the effort.....\nApparently the scroll down only goes back to 2013, this trip was 2009. None of my kids were teens any more either....
(40) So many people had recommended us making the hike up Mount Batur so experience the sunset, and it sounded amazing but also tough...getting up at 2am, walking from 4-6am to the top sounds like a lot of exertion during what is supposed to be a relaxing vacation. For me as a marathon runner the climb was not too bad, for my wife it was a bit more exhausting....but she did make it. The last 30-40 minutes of the climb is more challenging, climbing between small ledges of pumice (which is cooled-down lava). At the top we were accompanied by about 5-60 people (apparently in the high season there can be as much as 200 !!) and we waited for about 30 minutes before the sun poked itself above the horizon. It was amazing, serene and definitely one of the most gorgeous sunrises I've seen in my life.\n\nGoing down was less exhausting but more tricky than going up, since it's easy to lose your footing on the loose gravel. After to get back to the city, it's only 10am and you still have the whole day ahead of you - assuming you still have energy left.
(41) A good place to visit in Bali. The weather was not so good, but the lake Batur was superbe anyway. Worth to go. Not the place for foodies so better bring your food. It's kind of hard to drive to the lake, so keep your patience and calm.
(42) A fantastic place by the lake go early to avoid the crowds and see the mount ens appearing out of the mist great for photos entrance is Rp50.000 well worth it .
(43) Visited with the group in Aug ..... It was a very long drive from Kuta area to the Mount batur ....more than 3.5 hrs ....But after reaching there it was grt view of volcano & a very nice weather.... nothing much to do there. 1 hr is ok to stay there & do some photograph & lunch .
(44) It took me 20 mins to walk bare foot down a steep inclined of rocks with only a woobly bamboo railing as safety . \n\nThe returned journey took me 50 mins of walking ,as I struggled with exhaustion , Intense heat and dizziness as well as trying to step back up on rocks larger than the legs of mine .
(45) The mountain is located in Kintamani which is pretty far from Ubud. You can either book a tour to get its overview or go trekking to the mountain. As a part of Ubud get-around tour, we just stopped at Batur Mt. to have lunch and to experience this scenery. The weather is much cooler and fresher thanin Ubud at its situated in the highlands. I also had buffet lunch in a restaurant from which there was a direct view of Batur Mt. enabling me to eat lunch and enjoy the view at the same time. This is an amazing experience! If I have chance to come back Bali, I will definitely get down to the trekking to the peak during sun rise!
(46) Save your money, don't pay for the guide. Just buy some pocket torch and arrive to the meeting point at 3.30 am and go behind some group. No check points,no entrance tickets just climb. You also can go half way up by your scooter or car
(47) We booked our tour two days in Advance with \tunjungsuci sunrise trekking\". The organization of the tour was bad - we were picked up one hour too late, therefore we started late with the hike and nearly missed the surise. Don't expect too much from the breakfast - we didn't even receive what was said in the tour info sheet (tea/pancake).\nBe aware that many tourist hike up - the whole way up is one big line.\n\nAnyway - the view and the fact that your are on top of the vulcano is amazing.\nThe hike itself is not very difficult and with the crowds of people you hardly can get lost. Next time I would do it without a guide/organization."
(48) A crazy morning - getting up at 2.00am with the goal Mount Batur for sunrise. We hired ubud sunrise hiking for the sunrise tour. We found they offer the most reasonable price exclusive tour. The guide was not only helpful, but timed the climb well. We were up on the mountain top well before the sunrise, which was at 6.15 that day. The road up was really rocky and I would recommend good hiking shoes that secure the ankles. Wear long pants if possible to protect your legs from the rocks and certains parts of the trek where are long grasses.
(49) We had a wonderful experience during my first hiking in Bali, we were organizing by Jero the owner of Bali Trekking Tour Net. We contacted him referred by my friend Joyce Woo, she went with him couple months ago and she had awesome experienced with Jero. We do reservation through WhatsApp +6281904082208, everything went smoothly.\n\nWas picked up in our hotel Dush Seminyak by Agung Jeros team on time, travel 2 hours till base f Batur volcano, we meet our guide Jero Jero (called Edwin), I thought Jero the owner but he is twins brother the owner! I dont believe he is twins of Jero owner because the face looks very different but Jero owner said true twins brother. He is very nice man, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.\n\nWe started the climb around 3.45am, and took around 2hours to complete the climb. Along the way, Jero was very encouraging and kept assuring us safety. He said we have plenty of time for sunrise, so we did not have to hurry. Finally we done it before 6am, we were treated to a magnificent view of the sunrise. Having yummy breakfast and a cup of hot chocolate protect our buddy from cold weather, shortly after sunrise, Jero took us to explore the entire main crater we were quite amazed by the view offered.\n\nAs Mt Batur is a volcano, there is some parts of the path were produce hot steam, some black sand and loose rock. Here is the part where you have to be careful, especially on the west part of main crater there is sliding down and narrow trail but dont worries Jero very patient and even held our hands at certain points to ensure our safety.\n\n5 start rating your team for this wonderful experience! Highly recommended to everyone!!
(50) We did the sunrise trek on our third day in Ubud - picked up at 2am from our hotel and taken to another hotel for breakfast. From there we drove to the summit and were introduced to our guide, who kindly provided us with torches (which proved to be essential). I have a moderate fitness level and I found the trek challenging, at some stages I was on all fours as it felt more like rock climbing than a trek, but that just made it more rewarding when we got to the top! The trek is a mixture of rocky trails/sand/rocky ledges, we started at 3:40am and got to the top just after 6. I actually wish we'd taken a little longer as the sun didn't rise until just after 6:30, however we managed to get a good spot to watch the sun rise. There are plenty of opportunities to break as there is a natural human bottleneck due to the number of people climbing, however this didn't really bother me too much, I was grateful for the slower pace! I would recommend wearing gym leggings and proper walking shoes/trainers, I've heard of some people doing this trek in flip flops - which is just stupid, also strongly recommend a thick jumper for the top as it is very cold! The sun rise was amazing and we were provided with a small breakfast of boiled egg, bread and banana (which I didn't eat) the monkeys appeared just after sunrise and tucked in! I would recommend taking your own snacks if you need something and plenty of water! We made our way back down shortly after sunrise, which was trickier in parts than the ascent! We got back down at roughly 8:45, at which point our driver said that the other people were going to the hot springs, and therefore we had to go back in another car. We thought this was fine however once we were crammed into another van to wait to return to Ubud we were informed that we would be going to a coffee plantation and padi fields, once the others had returned (who were not part of our original group of four) - when we explained that we were under the impression we would be dropped off they said we'd have to pay for a taxi - my boyfriend got pretty heated and explained that had paid for a return trip and we were going to get one, eventually our driver reappeared and reluctantly said he'd take us back - but only after we'd chased them three times and refused to go anywhere else. We arrived back at our hotel at 10:45, such a shame that the trip was spoilt by our tour operators - who I assume were hoping that we wouldn't notice?!\n\nOverall I would definitely recommend but do NOT book with Puji tour operator - once they have your cash they do what they like when they like!\n
(51) I would like to give 5 start rating on TripAdvisor regarding our hike recently to Mount Batur but we're unlucky, the weather was bed!!! Here bellow our detail overall about Mount Batur sunrise trek we did.\n\n1. Excellent!\nWe contacted Jero for our hike, Jero is nice person and pro active, he repaid my esquire and we made a deal smoothly.\n\nJero send us his uncle Ketuk Wajib as our guide, he is awesome person, patient, helpful and always smile ( Friendly)\n\nJero provide us yummy breakfast, hot drink on the summit, raincoat, trekking poles and also lamb ( Hand lamps). Head lamps much better I think.\n\n2. The Bed!\n\nThe weather was very bed, from beginning until end our trip was rains, on the summit was cold ( around 7 degrees)\n\nFull of cloud, we can't see anything, only 10 meters distance we can see the views.\n\nThe trail was slippery, must be careful! Its slippery because of rains but it not dangerous for every visitors ( Watch every step)\n\n3. Noted!\n\nI would highly recommend Jero's team to arranging your trip to Batur, you can contact him on +6281904082208 or his site Bali Trekking Tour Seminyak.\n\nBefore your hike please find out the best weather ( Use weather forecast). Dry season not guaranteed will clear weather, you can ask someone or Jero regarding the weather around the mountain.\n\nThere very cold on the summit, bring your jacket or layers, it will be useful on the summit.\n\nDon't forget wear trekking shoes w/good gear, it will be okay for slippery part.\n\nIf you have own head lamps it will be okay, your hand will free during your hike or request the tour operator to provide head lamps.\n\nThat all our tips for you who want hike Mt, Batur!\n\nLast words, thank you Jero for arrange our trip, you have awesome team! We can't rate 5 starts because the weather very bed. Tons thank especially to Ketut with out your help and your patient waiting us, we can't made it.
(52) We started the trek at 3.30 am and reached the peak at 6 am during sunrise. The trek is tough. You should be athletically fit. Our guide Nario was very good and helpful. I recommend everyone to visit this trek. The experience is that of a lifetime. We went up to the topmost point. Carry 2-3 water bottles with you and some glucose biscuits. Wear something comfortable. Its never too cold there. Also dont carry a heavy bag.
(53) Trek to Agung wasn't easy, but it was one of the best experience on Bali. Reward for early wake up was beautiful sunrise.\n\nI went with Wayan and he was (against me) still full of energy. He sing, teach indonesian and therefore I think, that way up was easier then down. When he saw, that I don't have problem with heights, he didn't hesitate to help other people.\n\nThanks again for pleasant company and informations about Bali and Agung.
(54) My best friend Rob booked this trip for us. This has got to be the hardest one day hike I have ever done in my entire life.\n\nYou need to be in good shape to do this. I would not attempt this if you are not in good shape. We saw several groups turn around at some point - just wasted money and time.\n\nI ran a marathon in January 2016 and climbed this in May 2016. It was so hard. The climb up was pretty rough but honestly coming down was harder. You are tired and the shock on your knees is excruciating coming down.\n\nAgain, please make sure you are in good shape before attempting this. This was the hardest one day climb I've ever done and I do p90x on a regular basis.\n\nI'm so glad it's over! lol. It was worth it!
(55) We went to see the volcano and the lake but had very limited time so we could not do the climb at sunrise. I hear it's quite an experience, though, and would like to do it next time. The town of kintamani is a nice spot to take the scenery in, have a drink or even lunch. It's quite a distance from Denpasar so we included it in a day trip to Ubud as well. It wasn't such a bad combination!
(56) One of the most amazing experience I ever had! While the 4 hours trek is not easy for someone who has no experience in it, I managed to made it thanks to the guide who was very patient, helpful and encouraging. Reaching the top to meet the sun rise was a priceless moment. Would recommend all to be in proper gears. Minimally to wear additional layer of tee and also bring along a jacket as the start of the journey is very cooling and the submit is very chilly! Tights is advised too to prevent any scratches on your legs
(57) Mt Batur has a great view and of course breath taking! you are about to experience dining side by side with the amazing view of the mountain! but be careful about the price of the restaurant, be smart and aggresive of searching the most worthy restaurant over there, so good luck with that! :) . Note : be careful, if you are unlucky , the weather can become unfavorable and get foggy which you can't see a thing there :(\nFinal word : great place for relaxing while enjoy the buffet dining experience
(58) This was one of the best experience I had in Bali.\n\nWe set out really early to get to the volcano by 4am. We started our trek in the dark with torch lights (dont worry its not that scary!)\nYou will have a guide with you and youll see and hear other hikers along the way. The trek takes a couple of hours up and the same down. The path is green and lush and pretty safe.\nOnce youre up the view is breathtaking! Worth every minute of the climb. Refreshments are available right on the top- coffee, eggs, bread. The eggs are cooked in small crater holes that release steam.\n\nThe crater on the top releases steam through different small holes and its pretty cool to be so up close to it! You can walk right along it.\n\nA few tips:\n- dont lug a lot of stuff with you in your bag as the hike will be better if you do it with light weight.\n- plenty of water\n- take a jacket with you as you will experience different weather as you go higher up. It gets warm and cold and warm again once youre close to the steamy crater ! Be prepared for that\n\nOther than enjoy the amazing views! Ill leave a few pics of my time there.
(59) Tour operator drove us to Mount Batur. So glad we made it part of our trip. It was absolutely breath-taking. A bit of a trek away from Legian (where we were staying)... but totally worth it. Definitely make it a point to visit!
(60) We paid about $35 USD each in a group of 3 for our guide and started our climb at 4am. Path was okay at the beginning but when you're reaching the top, it starts to get steeper and lots of rocks so it's rather hard for me as a beginner. I did zero training, and my stamina is real bad, but my guide is good and he kind of pull me up all the way as I kept falling. My two other went ahead first with the drinks porter, and I managed to reach the top just in time for sunrise even tho I'm the last!\n\nI have to say that it's one of my best and yet painful experience, and I really enjoyed it! Oh, not forgetting the pain you will get later, haha. It's worth a try if you haven't climb before. Just hold on to the guide for life if you're as bad as me. :D\n\nGood pair of shoes is a must, and windbreaker too. A stick will also help to ease your climb as you tend to slip off the rocks easily. Oh, by the way the sunrise wasn't good as there's clouds, but everything else is good.
