(1) if you want to visit 2 or three temples in bali. this myust be one of them. Nice tanah lot with lots of cheap markets nearby
(2) Tanah Lot Temple is a beautiful place to visit whilst on your trip. It's perfect for all types of travel. Kids too!! It's nicely located in the shore of the beach (so it's a fun walk to get there!! *make sure you're wearing comfy shoes!!*) Before making your way to the Temple, you're provided with one of the BEST markets in Bali! Lots to buy! Lots to pick from! And very well priced! Once you get to the temple; be sure to receive a blessing from the monks and a small donation is required. Once done, you're able to climb half way up the temple. My suggestion would be to go just before the sunset so that you get to enjoy the sunset. It's beautifully breathe taking!! Lots of restaurants within the vicinity to have a drink or, simply take photos. A must stop!!
(3) Yes Tanah Lot is busy with tourists. But it still offers a iconic picture of Bali, with a fantastic scenery. Sunset is of course a must. We expected to spend maximum 1 hour there, and we eventually spent severals hours walking on the cliffs that wind from the temple, and offer amazing views. There are plenty of touristic restaurants there where you can have a drink and watch the sunset. The most crowded part of the temple is the beach at its bottom, with a sacred cave. You can walk the feet in the water, but it is definitely packed.\nSo not the most quiet place on the island, but when the sun is out, it is outstanding.
(4) We visited Tanah Lot on our way back from a day long journey making it a point to reach it at sunset. And wow was that an experience. It was a festive day so most of the visitors were there to make offerings and that was incredible to experience.\nThe temple is beautiful and the chanting throughout adds to the magic of it. \nThe waves crashing at the foot of the temple is simply magnificent. \nNot to be missed.\n\nThe entrance to the temple is through a market and it is busy busy busy so Id recommend for parents to carry their kiddos (younger ones of course) on their backs or shoulders to get through it. Still a good experience for the senses (smells and sight both enriched).
(5) Tanah Lot is amazing sunset point in Bali.\nbetter arrive earlier, we can find kind of local hand made souvenirs. then find the best sunset spot point with fresh young coconut that we can find at local shop.\ndon`t miss it
(6) We just have to go to Tanah Lot each time we visit Bali as it is such a beautiful Temple. The surroundings are special and serene. The shops are a lot of fun and lots of cliff top cafes to have a drink or meal. My wife nudges me to go as she has found a shoe shop that sells beautifully made shoes for $10 a pair. How can I refuse to go.....a happy wife is a happy life!
(7) We couldn't visit it during our first visit to BALI and felt we possibly didn't miss much. During our next visit, we decided to stop by and thoroughly enjoyed it. The sunset at Tanah Lot is indeed special. You can enjoy it with a few drinks at the small shops overlooking the temple. Dont miss it out when you are in Bali.
(8) Visited Tanah Lot and glad I can say I have been, however the day we visited it was so hot it took away from the experience (this of course is no ones fault!).\n\nThe temple is impressive and the grounds around it are gorgeous, we didnt stay for the sunset but I can imagine it would be incredibly beautiful.\n\nThere are lots of markets and places to eat so it can easily make the long drive (if you are not staying in Ubud or surrounds) worthwhile.
(9) for persons who want to pass all sunday there, it's interesting and quiet place. The road to go there it's really nice in the middle of the rice field, not so far for the Tanah lot temple and the Nirwana golf.
(10) TANAH LOT! if you like beach, come to Tanah Lot Bali. is very very beautiful. Bali is good place ❤️❤️❤️
(11) We came here at the end of a day tour to see the sunset at Tanah Lot Temple by the sea. We decided to sit high up on the cliff where there are a number of cafes you can buy drinks and food. The position is wonderful if you want to capture the sun as it sets into the ocean and then the changing colours in the sky. Magical. There are lots of tourists but also plenty of places to get a comfortable position to take photos and admire the scenery.
(12) Same as other temples, the tourists are not allowed to enter the temples in Tanah Lot. Hence, we were only able to take pictures at the surrounding area. Tanah Lot temple becomes a-must-visit place if you come to Bali, this is what I heard from the others. Indeed, this is a famous landmark and is one of the best sunset views in Bali. The temple is built on the rock. Tanah Lot means small island floating on the sea. \nThe entrance fee is Rupiah 60K per person. \n\nThere is a queue for a simple holy water ritual, whereby the holy water would be sprinkled over your head, rice grains to be put on your forehead, and a flower named Plumeria at the back of your ear. This requires a small donation. I gave Rupiah 10K.
(13) Jaw-droppingly beautiful, the Tanah Lot Temple is a gorgeous temple complex with remarkable architectural features. Sitting on a humungous rock that juts from the sea, it is another sunset must see in Bali.
(14) Its been many times in Tanah Lot Temple, always amazing, watching the people arround, the beauty temple, some of them can go to the inside of the temple trough the water when its down,.. but must be carefull with the waves, its an excotic place that i can say with a strong culture..
(15) The temple at Tanah Lot at sunset has been featured so much that I made it a point to see it with my own eyes. Unfortunately, I could only visit it in the morning. There were plenty of tourists mostly from China. The whole view was beautiful even without the sunset. The waves crashing onto the cliff side and then breaking into bubbles was lovely to watch. The tide was low and I could see a lot of tourists going across to the temple.
(16) Ive been to Indonesia quite a lot ths year.. so ths time around i have a chance to go to Tanah Lot.. we rent a bike for 65k a day. Very nice temple with a different view. Ive paid 25k (2 person) entrance fee (together with bike). A lot of stall but hard to find one halal stall. Most of it sell “babi” (pork).
(17) one of the temples that has natural beauty and the beach is very beautiful and I always take the time if I'm in Bali and I highly recommend to friends to visit the tanah lot if vacation to Bali
(18) Tanah Lot is a beautiful place to visit . It is a bit far from the city centre . The roads to the place are narrow and could get crowded . The place is a must see one of you visit Bali . We went during high tide and it was nice .
(19) Tanah Lot...\nFamous place, nice to know what the Balinese doin there, so you not only take pictures. \n\nVisit Tanah lot, you'll never get disappointed, it will make you wanna come again, someday...
(20) After having been to several temples around Bali, it may get a little monotonous. Tanah Lot is beautiful, just like the other temples around Bali.
(21) Tanah lot is one the famous temple in bali. you can see many beautiful views especially if you come at the sunset time ,
(22) This temple belongs to the list of popular sightseeing spots in Bali, but due to this fact it is so overcrowded, specifically by Chinese people. The temples are scattered along the ocean cliff. The main one is actually located in the sea and you have to cross shallow water to get there. There is a small ceremony inside carried out by two monks which also ask for donation (although to enter Tanah Lot you already paid for the entry, 60K). The ceremony consists of face washing, followed by putting flower petals on your forehead by monks. Tanah Lot territory is rather large. It is much more interesting to walk along the beach farther from the temple to explore the area. Going up from the main gates, you may find many local vendors and cafes to have a rest.
(23) This attraction is amazing. The views are amazing and most of all getting blessed at the foot of the temple with the spring water is an experience all on its own. \n\nHow to get there: we took a taxi from Seminyak which costs about 150K and to get back into town just walk outside the entrance of Tanah Lot and there's a dirt parking lot on the street where the taxi guys are waiting which would cost about 200K. Here's a tip: usually there are taxi guys offering a 3hr roundtrip to T Lot for 400K from Seminyak I am not too keen on the time restraints because there's just so much to see at the temple. So just take a cab. Enjoy the rice fields and the farm land of Bali it is breathtaking on the way to the temple.\n\nPrice for the temple: 6K per person. \n\nThings to do: shop shop shop and haggle and eat (there are restaurants at the top of the hill that overlooks the lot which are over priced but at least you get a view). Explore the surrounding area there are more to see than just the lot.\n\nAt temple: get blessed at the foot of the temple and wash your impurities with the natural spring water. Cost is by donation but worth the experience.\n\nLas but not least go during the day it is not as crowded because at sunset the place gets crazy with tourists.\n\nLoved it truly an amazing gem in Bali.
(24) Tanah Lot temple was amazing!!!! Everyone that goes to Bali mustnt it. Great views!!! It was just amazing to come here. Would recomend
(25) A sunset at Tanah lot temple at Bali is an exhilarating experience. The temple stands on a rock just off the shore but was closed for visitors due to high tide, perhaps. \nThe place around has flat rocks so one can stand in the sea water with the temple in the foreground and the setting sun in the background. It's a sight worth a thousand words. \n A small hillock nearby gives another view of the sun sinking into the ocean.
(26) I have always been inspired by history. I feel a sense of awe and wonder when I look at the glorious monuments, temples, castles, mansions, etc. that our forefathers constructed ages ago. Tanah Lot is one such temple, I felt a sens of tranquility here in between the sea. The approach to approach to Tanah Lot has been nicely done with a small shopping street followed by the main entrance and well kept garden. Beyond which you can see the temple and waves breaking on the rocks. Lovely.
(27) 27 December 2015, visited Bali most significant icon, Tanah Lot Temple. It was mid day thus was high tide. Big waves rushed and hit on the shore.\n\nMany tourists from all over. Domestic and International. Lots of souvenirs shops, restaurants, cafes leading to the entrance of the garden. \n\nTanah Lot is also a Hindu temple build on a gigantic stone in the middle of the sea. One of its kind in the world. When it's low tide (likely evening) it is possible to walk across to the island. However the temple is strictly prohibited. It's also located on the western side of the island thus a good place to marvel the exotic sunset.\n\nNice unique place. Visitors to bali should consider adding this attraction to their list.
(28) The Tanah Lot Temple was breathtaking and beautiful. The experience was great. My recommendation is to visit first thing when they open - 7am. It is not overly busy and there arent any lines to go up the temple.
(29) Tanah Lot must be one of the most magnificent temples in Bali. Its situated at a cliff. And the view is simply spectacular. We went during high tide and it was quite soothing listening to the waves crashing against the cliff. We also found out that it's possible to walk to the temple during low tide too. So whether it's high tide or low tide, the view of Tanah Lot is just spectacular and worth a visit.
(30) I went to Tanah Lot in Nov 2011 with my friends, it is a iconic and special temple by the sea. We visited during low tide and manage to walk around the surrounding of the temple, beware, as some spots might be slippery. Worth seeing!
(31) We visited the Tanah Lot temple on March 5th and lucked out & happened to visit during their semi-annual ceremony. \n\nIt's one of 7 sea temples to worship the Balinese sea gods and dates back to the 16th century. The structure is breathtakingly beautiful as is the surrounding beach area. Although there was quite a bit of trash which was disappointing to see.\n\nAll in all, it was a fantastic experience and a beautiful temple to visit.
(32) What a lovely and peaceful place is tanah lot temple.\nThis is a place full of magic and well being \nIf you go to Bali, this place is a place to visit for thé pleasure of thé eyes but Also a Time for retire of mind
(33) Tanah lot temple, is one of the tourist attractions on the island of Bali, which has a high artistic value. a beautiful temple characteristic above the beginning of a separate sea
(34) Went to Tanah Lot expecting great things. Very disappointed. Extremely tourist orientated - people annoying you and following you around to buy things, postcards, hair clips, kites, photos etc. Rolled up trousers to get to temple - can't walk around and can pay $$ for blessing. Wouldn't bother recommending this place - think next time I'd visit another temple.
(35) Tanah Lot temple has become my favourite place after watching shades of sunset. This place is gifted with spiritual powers where fresh holy water comes out of cave which gets covered with sea water during high tide. Amazing place to see sunset.
(36) I went to Tanah Lot because everyone says you should. It is gorgeous. Go at sunset. Go at low tide. So I went. And it is amazing, a temple built on these massive rocks isolating itself at high tide. Yes. All those things are true. \n\nBut to even get to that point you travels through stalls of tourist traps, stores, etc. And you lose some of the peacefulness found in many other temples that are just that-temples.\n\nI didn't go at sunset. My guide advised against it since it is so crowded and the sky was cloudy-- cloudy sky does not equal a beautiful or even close resemblance to a sunset. And he was right. I did see the sunset from another area, right before a cultural show and the sunset consisted of sun there, sun not. No pretty colors, nothing to write home about. My guide also informed me that most days are like that--
(37) Like most sacred sites in Bali, Tanah Lot has become an opportunity for the locals to make a buck. We have learnt to embrace this crass commercialism and have a bit of fun while haggling for gifts and souvenirs, The tourists visiting the site are probably more interesting than the site itself. Likewise the surfers risking injury near the rocky shoreline below the cliffs. Worth the trip but maybe later in the day to get the setting sun behind Tanah Lot for that perfect pic.
(38) Reached tanah lot near the sunset timing, Luckily for us, the tide was low and the pathway to tanah lot was visible and walk-able. Awed at its exhilarating view and natural structure. Watch out for other travellers who \unknowingly\" jump the queue."
(39) I'm sure being here at sunset would be beautiful, but we enjoyed our visit to Tanah Lot. It was crowded but not too bad. We enjoyed the views and watching the surfers below. There are many shops similar to others you will find in the tourist areas. We did try the luwok coffee here. Although we hear it is very inhumane how the coffee is harvested now so we were conflicted but decided to share a cup instead of everyone buying one. It was tasty and if you didn't know what it was you wouldn't be able to tell. We also had chili seasoned BBQ corn - that was delicious.
(40) Tanah Lot temple is beautiful, the location itself is a must see place in Bali. However due to its beauty it attracts a lot of tourist and this can affect how much you get to enjoy your visit. So I recommend to leave your hotel in the early morning, get there early before all the tourist buses arrive, this can help you get the best experience out of your trip.
(41) Everyone was right, its great for sunset. We arrived a bit before sunset, and at low tide. \nIt was so fun to walk the sea floor, and then just walk around and take photos of the sunset. \n\nPretty big complex actually, Tanah Lot on the left, and the other Bedung temple on the right, so maybe come late afternoon to explore the entire area then go back again to the Tanah Lot side for the sunset photos. It gets crowded, and tricky with photos, but It so fun. \n\nSunset, walking on seafloor, then hearing the sea, with the waves crashing and at times you wonder if it will start coming in but not really. Just fun. There's many angles to take photos and witness the whole sea crashing into the land, from the top far away then as you come closer and closer until you get to the sea floor and walk almost around the temple. \n\nI read that the actual temple is only for the Hindus to go in and pray and that was fine, the area was just fun. \n\nAfter the sunset you can always go back up and sit and just enjoy the moment - smell the roses. Not everything has to be instagram perfect. Enjoy Nature, enjoy the scenery, how often can you sit where it isn't too polluted, you get fresh sea air, and fantastic skies? \n\nV. touristy before the entry to the pura complex, food, shops et al.
(42) Tanah Lot is a place worth visiting. Journey took us 3hrs to and fro. But it was definitely worth the trip. Beautiful sunset and temple view.
(43) We visited Tanah Lot during the day on our last day in Bali.\nI heard that visiting at sunset is quite crazy busy, we were there about lunch time, it was busy but not unbearable.\nWe caught a taxi to the lot, from Canggu it cost us about $15, but I'm sure you would be able to negotiate it down. It was about a half hour drive. Also the taxi drive said that they aren't allowed to do pick ups there so he waited for us and took us back when we were done.\nThere are heaps of market shops and a few eating places there so you can easily spend a few hours there.\nTickets were cheap to get in and you walk past all the markets to head to the temple.\nYou then walk down to the rocks and beach to get to the lot. You would be better off wearing thongs (flip flops) as you would walk across a shallow water area to get to the lot. \nYour don't have to go across to the lot if you don't want, there are plenty of photo opportunities without crossing the water. \nIf you do cross the water you can get blessed with some holy water (for a small donation) and it gives you access to a small walk up one side of the temple.\nThere is a park area to explore too. There are heaps of people trying to sell things and a snake you can get photos with. It gives you good views of the temple and I would think this would be the best vantage point for sunset. \nThis is a great place to visit in Bali. \nWe were there a few hours, and it's a good visit. \nDefinitely would recommend anyone to visit.
(44) We were two girls travelling alone. We had our concerns about safety. But we found a very good driver. He took us to Tanah Lot. I am sharing his number here in case other women feel they want a trusted driver. My friend and I had a great experience with him. Driver name: Dea. +62 85792910601\nThe temple is crowded. Don't fall for the snake trick. I personally enjoyed sitting by the mountainous rocks that have been carved by the sea and watched the sunset.
(45) when we went there there was too much traffic due to a local feast. it was that day, once every hlaf year, that they pray there to Siva - i think. we were so lucky!!we felt their loyalty to their Gods. The guide told us that Nimarta, their kind of prophet, chose that place after building Tanh Lot, as the best place to complete his work. the temple is really small, but at the edge of huge cliff, where you see the indian ocean, the trees, monkeys all around.
(46) Tanah Lot is a bit out of the way, on the far north side of Kuta; traffic can get congested, but the trip is well worth-while. But be aware of the advantages of high tides, heights, and holidays. \n\nFirst, at high tides, the temple is cut off from the shore, so if you are in the temple as the tide is rising, leave in time or be prepared to stay for a bit. If you arrive at high tide, you can't walk out to it. Warning signs are posted but even without them, you would know the surf slamming into the rocks is hazardous. But Tanah Lot is most impressive at high tide (see Tanah Lot from Ashore photo). Bali's full of beautiful land-locked temples, but Tanah Lot's the only one I know of that's awash twice a day. If you have a half-day to spend, plan on getting to temple at low tide and then watching it transform into a island at high tide; and if high tide happens to fall at sunset that day, so much the better. \n\nSecond, if you're lucky enough to go during a religious holiday, Tanah Lot can be particularly interesting; I got to listen to formal concert by a large Gamelan Bali orchestra (gratis) while I was there (see Gamelan at Tanah Lot photo). Of the three major styles of gamelan, Bali, Jawa and Sunda, it's generally believed that Balinese is the best--though I wouldn't mention that to a Javanese of Sundanese acquaintance.\n\nThird, if you walk back inland along Jalan Tanah Lot, and then turn right, there are some interesting vendors to be seen (one specializes in a fabulous Balinese wooden version of wind chimes) Then if you continue up the steep walkway, you get to a cafe with a terrace on the heights overlooking the temple. In addition to quenching your thirst or satisfying your appetite, you get what I think is the most spectacular view of the temple (see Tanah Lot from the Heights photo). The odd bit was that while tour-busloads of Bules were packed together admiring the temple from the bottom of the cliff, I was the only foreigner doing so from the top--except for an Indonesian couple, I had the terrace to myself.\n\nYes, yes, Bali has more temples than Dublin's got pubs, but don't miss this one!
(47) Lots and lots of steps with no handrails and often with unexpected drop-offs or platforms. Packed with people with the resulting confusion making the route, though man-made, treacherous. I found myself having to focus on where I was stepping more than enjoying the rest of the experience. Preferred the visit to Tonah Lot much more.
(48) Tanha lot temple is around 10 KM from Seminayak and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It looks like this whole place was under sea years back and now water level is low so temple place can be seen.\nEntry ticket is of 60000/- RP per person and separate entry ticket to see holy snake inside temple. if you take bluebird from Seminayak to Temple it charge around 130K(with meter) one side. \nBest Thing: Beautiful scenery for pictures during sun set.\n\nRecommended: if you like sight seeing and want to cover much places go for it otherwise can be dropped off. It's not worth spending so much time and money.
(49) Not very impressive or worth it in my opinion, go to Tanah lot, much better. There is monkeys to take photos with, it's high up on a cliff but nothing super special.
(50) Tanah Lot Temple like all other balinese temples ask you to shell out money to enter the holy springs under the small cliff seperated from the land by a small puddle of sea water. Nice view from up the garden cliff where other small temples r situated. Thats about it.... Nothing special unless there are so many souvenirs shops selling t-shirt and sarongs and toilets (yes chargeable toilets everywhere). A boring attractions for someone like me unless clicking cute pics with my wifey.
(51) Such a shame - we visited Tanah Lot Temple 30 years ago and although everything changes this is now like a theme park. Neither authentic nor rememberable. Without care this is an example of how not to safeguard the jewels of bali
(52) I went here several times and I can never get enough of the sunset view here. Tanah Lot is a temple by the sea located on a coral cliff which is a very famous tourist destination. Only Hindu people are allowed to enter the temple, others can only enjoy the view from the outside.
(53) Tanah Lot Temple is located in a really beautiful area. We visited there on sunset and it was amazing. Nice big waves in the ocean. \n\nThere are lots of other tourists, but for us, that is never a problem. You could still get nice pictures. In my opinion, the ticket fee 60 000 IDR is very reasonable. There are lots of stores and restaurant inside the area. Also, there are free toilets.
(54) Tanah Lot is an amazing place to visit. Lots of shopping which is better than kuta/Legian. Easier to bargain at this place. Visit this place only when tide is out so you can cross over to the temple.
(55) Tanah Lot Temple is a tourism icon of the island of Bali. Besides that, one of the famous tourism objects on the island of Bali that must be visited. Because so famous tourist attractions in Bali, then almost every day, Tanah-Lot tourism objects are always crowded with tourist visits.\n\nTanah Lot Temple is part of the Kahyangan Jagat Temple in Bali, intended as a place to worship the sea guard god. When the sea tides, it will appear to be surrounded by sea water. Underneath it is a small cave where there are several sea snakes.\n\nHoly Snake\n\nSea snakes have characteristics, with a flat tail like a fish, black in yellow color. According to the story, the sea snake is the incarnation of the temple's shawl.\n\nThe founder of the temple was a Brahmin from Java who wandered to Bali. He was named Dang Yang Nirartha. It is said that the sacred snake of Tanah Lot was assigned as a guardian of the temple.
(56) Last year, i visited tanah lot bali. So far away from my origin, jimbaran. But my exhausted is pay all when i see the beautiful of this island. So, if u holiday in bali, u must visit tanah lot. God of island
(57) When I visited Tanah Lot, Suddenly I fell down and hurt my leg, I just wait in the parking lot, and a corn seller told me that if I have an accident in Tanah Lot, I can have a medication for free, just told the information officer about the situation.
(58) tanah lot temple is one of the oldest temples in bali. this temple is massively famous with tourists for the stunning sunset views it provides. sunset is definitely the best time to visit. do take your time going around the temple, you can even climb down to the beach from a certain area. you will find many people getting professional wedding pictures, etc clicked. you dont really need a tour guide here, but be sure to take your time and explore all parts of the temple and the surrounding area. it takes about 3 hours to reach the temple from kuta
(59) We watched the sunset from Tanah Lot and it was a beautiful experience. Definitely worth a visit. The temple is majestic and the location is fantastic. However, it is very crowded but such a place will always attract many tourists.
(60) This temple is very popular and very beautiful. If you are planning a visit to Tanah Lot temple make sure you get there very early in the morning 7-8 am as after that it will be extremely crowded and the beauty of this place could be compromised. Panoramas are breathtaking at every hours of the day though. Once you are in you can get a benediction with holy water by the priests.
