(1) If you go to Bali some things are likely to disappoint you, like the beaches, but the Tanah Lot Temple will not be one of these things. This is absolutely one of the nicest places on the whole island.\n\nWe went there on a day trip around the island with our own taxi, which was very practical. The driver waited as we walked around in the area in our own leisure and walked out to the island. We were there when the tide was out, which was very nice. We left before the sunset, but it was still a very nice area and a nice thing to be able to walk out to the small \island\". \n\nA tip is that the shops here aren't as expensive as you might think.....\n\nAnyway, it is well worth a visit, with magnificent views."
(2) Pros: Plenty of Oleh oleh shops, free use of clean comfort rooms, great for photo opportunities \n\nTip: If you want to visit with less crowd and have great photos, do it in the morning. If you want to see the sunset expect a bigger crowd in the afternoon but a greater chance to cross the shore towards the temple.
(3) We spent 3-4 hours at the Tanah Lot temple. We were a couple, and had some quality time there. The place is very busy with tourists, and does not have much to do, except sitting near the sea shore and appreciating the cool breeze flowing by. Temple is a good attraction and can be visited once.
(4) Hye, friends if you decide off to Bali make sure go to tanah lot temple. One of most popular temple with nice scenery for photo shooting and as usual selfie. This temple located surrounding the beach. Not only that around 6pm when excited to see sunset you will enjoy their gayathri mantra with traditional music, meaningful Hinduism mantra. Great feelings there. Enjoy.
(5) Pura Tanah Lot One of the temples standing in the middle of the ocean is one of the tourist destinations in Bali ... with beautiful sunset and also many art shops that sell typical Bali craft ..... you can also enjoy the beautiful panorama of rice fields while enjoying the original Balinese coffee.
(6) It is ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot, a popular tourist and cultural icon.we went in the low tide season so we coulld walk to the temple with out any difficulty.\nYou cannot go inside as it is restricted same as many other temples in Bali. But u still can take panoramic pictures from rocks around the temple. Be careful as these rocks are covered with sea grass and extremely slippery. It is advised to wear suitable footware.
(7) Tanah Lot is situated on a hillock inside sea - a little walk from the beach area. Adhy (+6281239378353), our most reliable driver friend in Bali (who is actually a teacher for lower grade students but drives the car when he wants), planned the whole day trip in such a manner that it ends at Tanah Lot. It is a bit of drive from Ubud area where we were staying. Typically tourists plan to use Tanah Lot temple for 3 things - first, visit the temple at the hill top inside sea if the water level is low and you can reach the place, second, see the sunset from the beach as it is located on the west side of Bali, third, see the temple organized dance drama Kechak which typically starts at 6.30pm. We got our ticket to enter the temple for 60000 per person and walked about 500 meters from Parkir to reach the temple area. We reached little late as we saw sunset stopping on the road on our way and it was little darkish when we reached the temple area. We did not go near the temple gate as there was a big line of local people but we decided to spend sometime in the beach area walking on the rocky and sand surface. We spent about 45 minutes in the area and wanted to see the dance. We purchased tickets for 50000 pef person. It was organized inside a small stadia but on many days it is organized on the sea beach. The Kechak dance is a cultural tradition Bali. The fire dance is a part of Kechak. The programme is a Ramayan dance drama and we enjoyed it. At the end the artists request audience to take snaps with them. It was a good experience.

(8) This is one of my favorite visiting spot in Bali. The place is very sacred, peaceful and has amazing scenic beauty. The lake beside tanalot temple is a view not to be missed. Watching the sunset beside the lake was one of my most memorable experiences there.
(9) A visit to Tanah Lot Temple is realy recommended. Best time to visit in the early morning or in the late afternoon because of the beautiful sunrise or sunset. You can't allways go in the temple itself, but the surrounding of the temple is also worthwile. During daytime it's realy busy because of the amount of tourists.
(10) My husband and I visited Tanah Lot for the sunset and we were so disappointed. We didn't appreciate just how many people would be there and how much of a tourist trap it really is. Plus you can't even get that close, some of the other temples around the island are much more impressive and not as crowded!
(11) The time to travel this place perhaps takes longer than your visit time.\nPlease consider to bring hat, cap or even umbrella to protect you from the heat an sunshine if you come around noon.\nRecommended to come before sunset, due to the view of Tanah Lot is best to enjoy with orange sky behind it.\nPlease rememmber to come when the sea level is low, because some part of Tanah Lot will be rinse with sea water if the sea level high enough.
(12) Tanah Lot is one of the most popular place to visit while you are in Bali. About 45 minutes drive from Kuta or Denpasar. The view of the temple and the surrounding coast area was spectacular. You can walk to the temple during the low tide. It s quite busy and crowded as most tourist put this in their list. The best time to visit morning or before the sunset.
(13) My wife and I visited Tanah Lot as part of a tour around Bali. It was our first stop (about 8:40am) and so was fairly quiet when we arrived. The temple itself is very beautiful and gives you a great insight into what Bali must have been like centuries ago. We did not head into the temple but enjoyed the outer areas of the temple and standing by the Indian Ocean edge. Well worth seeing. If I had paid simply to go to the temple and back again I think I would have been slightly disappointed so would recommend making part of a bigger tour.
(14) This is a must see! Stunning views! Combine this visit with a visit to the Tanah Lot Temple. You will get some great photos!
(15) Good to go during evening to see the sundown with a coconut drink in hand. Spectacular view of the temple on the rock. Lot of shops which you must bargain, for Muslim there is \nasi padang\" at the car.bus parking area. Could rent a van for 7 pax at IND 300K to tour this area for the duration of 5 hours to and fro. Take a photo with the ready photographer for just on IND 20K for a picture, its worth it."
(16) Tanah Lot is worth the drive if only to get out of the milieu of Bali traffic. We'd been told it was best at sunset but it's far less busy earlier in the day. \n\nThe temple is set in water just off the beach and depending on the tide, you can walk across to it. However if the water is in, there are still spectacular views of the temple and also the rock arch and black volcanic sand beach from the manicured park. \n\nThe area around the temple is taken up by the usual stall sprawl. As you come away from the temple, turn right and walk uphill - you'll pass an interesting Kopi Luwak shop (civet coffee) where there are 2 furry civets sprawling on the counter. There's also an upside down fruit bat! \n\nFurther up, the land opens up to a grassy area of warungs and restaurants on a cliff top with the best view to Tanah Lot below. Stop for a cold drink or lunch or early dinner and drink in the view.\n\nWhen we left, many coaches and buses were arriving for the sunset experience and I was glad I hadn't had to fight my way through hoards of tourists to see Tanah Lot. It's a super place, you'll love it.
(17) Worth to visit. Like at any other tourist places Tanah Lot Temple is full of with tourists, but there is a little market like place nearby, so you can have a cheap lunch and some nice photos.
(18) Tanah Lot Temple most popular tourist destinations in Bali with famous view of sunset as a background. The famous half day Tanah Lot tour to explore the beautiful tourist destination and also experiencing peace and closeness to the almighty with breathtaking nature panorama view and spectacular temple.Ultimate destination, specially half day tour with dream views to capture the memories. Sunset at the Tanah Lot gives you the immense scenic beauty and one should capture the same for his/her memories for ever. And all I said about this temple is very less. I would recommend to visit this place atleast once in his/her lifetime especially during sunset. Thanks Tanah Lot Temple... Thanks Bali
(19) Another place to visit for spectacular sunsets. I would consider this better than Tanha Lot and suspect it would be as great at sunrise too. You cannot escape the crowds though and they have a dance performance here. Lots of place to wander around. Visit is recommended.
(20) There are actually two temples here: the famous Pura luhur Panah Lot, and the less famous Pura Batu Bolong. (per our driver, bolong means a hole). From the parking lot, visit Batu Bolong first (though we cannot pass the bridge) and follow the way to Tanah Lot. (It’s a high tide the day we visited, otherwise I heard we may walk along the beach). We chose to visit in the morning and avoided the infamous traffic jam from Seminyak to here.
(21) Beautifull sunset. Amazing beach tanah lot. But only one toilet facilities in this area. And no petunjuk arah. Still have any rubbish. But thx u so much so amazing tanah lot. Ticket only idr 10.000/people
(22) Had the worst Uber experience here in Tanah Lot which pretty much soured my time here. Not with the Uber driver but with the Local Transport! I just want to warn everybody. Bali has some sort of Anti Uber Mafia because it is causing local transport to lose their customers. Local transport are the taxi people that charge you for 4x the rate. They don't have a taxi meter! Uber is way cheaper and it is allowed, as long as you're low key about it and say they are your \Hotel transport\" \n\nAnyways, it was already in the middle of the night and we were trying to go back to the hotel. Local transport came up to us and asked if we wanted a taxi, he saw that I had Uber on my phone then he said Uber is not allowed here. The guy literally waited outside the restaurant where we waiting for our Uber driver and when he got there he pretty much started harassing him. We had to stand up for him and we kept telling them that he was out hotel transport. We were honestly scared for our lives. Taking Uber in other areas of Bali was not like this. \n\nIt bring so much negativity in the area, esp near a beautiful temple. If you must take an Uber going here, then just ask your Uber driver to wait they will be willing to do so but with a little bit extra IDR\n\nFYI: Be at the temple an hour before the sunset to capture iI was hesitant with flying my drone here based from some people's reviews saying you have to pay 40$ to do so. I did not have that problem."
(23) My husband and I had a private driver take us there as our 1st stop for the day. I wanted to avoid the sunset crowds and enjoy the view from the rocks below as it was low tide. \nIt is quite spectacular to view, with the glistening ocean in the background and the way the temple is perched up high on a jagged rock. We also got to see the holy snake due to it being low tide. \nIf you are only doing 1 or 2 temples during your visit then Tanah Lot should be high on the list.
(24) we were picked up at the port in a lovely airconditioned van for our group of 8. Nyoman and his driver. Fabulous ..we headed to Tegalalang rice terrace thru the streets of Bali ..Beautiful ..and the onto Tenah alot...the most beautiful templae by the sea...stunning...stunning views & had lunch and a quiet beer & checked out the markets..what a great day out with Nyoman... Thank you for another fabulous day in Bali Nyoman ..We highly recommend Nyoman for your next guide in Bali...
(25) This place has many shops along the way to the entrance and parking lot. They sell bags, clothes, etc.. like in Kuta I.e. Krisna but this with different design but the price was very cheap. Even Balinese love to buy things from Tanah Lot cause it's cheaper. Should buy things here again next time, buy you have to bargain and all transactions only by cash, no credit card.
(26) You can only see the actual temple from far away since only worshipers are allowed inside. It's just basically a park.Would suggest going to the Tanah Lot instead if you're just after a temple by the ocean.
(27) Trip to Tanah Lot was amazing , be memsmorise by the beautiful scenery. \n\nWas recommended by a local guide to visit there! I would highly recommend people to visit. However legend mention best to visit the place as a married couple or solo. If it’s just gf/bf (Chances of Break-up is very high)\n\nWell its up to one to believe. Better be safe than sorry. View by the Clift , totally worth it , not for the weak heart!
(28) Tanah Lot sits on a rock in the ocean but is accessible by foot although you never get to see the temple but can get sprinkled with the hold water from a spring that emanates from the bottom of the temple. This is just a way to get some more money for the assembled \priests\". There is also a sacred snake in a cave that too requires an extra payment. The temples in Bali have no deities and you are not allowed inside but can see from the outside. The ocean views make this a good place to visit"
(29) The Tanah Lot temple is beautiful, there are another two rock peninsulars that reach out into the sea, they are also beautiful. The whole area is very clean and well kept. If the go in the daytime or for sunset it is very busy.\nI suggest staying in the area and go first thing at 7am there is minimal people so you can actually enjoy the serenity of the place. The shops don't open till later but there is food available on the cliff over looking the temple. We stayed at Kedungu Surf Camp and cycled there in 20 minutes on rented bikes. The entrance for the temple is 120k IDR.
(30) Yes it's busy but there is still room to move around and doesn't ruin the experience. We all add to the congestion by being there!!\n\nWe had about 2 hours before sunset and walked to the nearest temple first. It's not a long walk but you get he views to the south east and if you carry on towards the restaurant there are steps that lead part way down to the beach but is blocked - again you can get close to waves.\n\nWe then followed path back up to where the cliff point is (snake charmer land) and saw Tanah Lot temple from above. It is amazing how it stands on its own. I can imagine it's better with tide in as the waves break against the temple!\n\nWe walked down (yes crowded) but lots of space - maybe not for the instagrammers who want it all for themselves! The waves are very strong and unpredictable but nice to spend 30 mins there watching the waves and Tanah Lot close up.\n\nWe then waited for sunset and there are MANY places to do this. Aside from the spectacular sunset the other great phenomenon was the 100's of birds that suddenly appeared as the sun hit the horizon. I assume this is a daily thing!\n\nAnyway, definitely a must see and just go with the expectation that others want to enjoy also and you won't be disappointed.
(31) If you want to visit a temple with high tide and if you love the nature Tanah lot is a must go place. High tide will blow away all of your sorrow and you will feel the fragrance of nature. \n\nTips: Don't miss the view from top: Beside Batubolong Temple
(32) I know. Everyone's going to hate me for saying this but how can you take something so beautiful and spiritual and ruin it with such tacky touristic exploitation and overkill. It could not be a further departure from what the Tanah Lot Temple was intended to be when first built. \n\nYes the views are amazing. Yes the sites fantastic. But no, no, no, you don't let 10,000 people (under-emphasised) traipse all over sacred grounds having locals try to hawk you photos holding snakes or each other! This was not what the Tanah Lot Temple was intended for!\n\nThis was the third temple I had visited in a day and I did enjoy all these experiences. Tanah Lot is incredible, despite there being no sunset to watch that day. I just couldn't get my head around the zillion selfie-sticks dangling in the wind like bamboo weeds. It was like going to the Louvre in Paris on a free-entry day to see the Mona Lisa!\n\nAnd despite the commercial overtures, I didn't mind the long walk back to my car, past the tacky Bali T-shirts because I really wanted a fresh coconut, that I got. Warm!
(33) Great place for photos of the sunset with the temple in the picture and if you wait till the sun actually sets you may get a photo of the bats flying out of the temple
(34) It is really a good place to spend your evening to watch sunset if you are lucky...we were not, as it was cloudy and could not get good pictures to remember.\nMore hyped place so it was full of tourist, hard to get proper place to sit and watch sunset but good is lots of restaurants to eat ,even you can enjoy buttery corncobs while walking.\nIf you don't visit Tanah lot you missed most popular place in Bali.\nTemples are always for Balinese people as they are more religious then Indians and follow Hindu religion ,save their traditions and purity which is more appreciated. The location and the architecture of Temple is great.
(35) The best part of Bali is the tranquility, art and sculpture, architecture of their homes and scenery that you encounter between much hyped venues. Tanah Lot if clearly over-hyped - it was overrun with crowds, and all one can see from anywhere is a dark building on a small island in the water. Perhaps if we had a gorgeous sunset instead of clouds things would look different, but as it were, it was a bit disappointing especially with the throngs of loud attendees. Ulun Danu in the early morning, and Tirtha Empul were nicer.
(36) we visited tanah lot temple during high tide , view was simply amazing. it is visted by many tourist and ofcourse this place is worth visiting highly recommended either for sun rise or sunset you will be amazed by its beauty.
(37) Tanah Lot Temple, built on a rock coming out of the sea. The temple itself is amazing. Of course unless you are part of a worship ceremony you cannot enter the temple proper. But the area around the temple is beautiful. There gardens with beautiful flowers, flowering trees, and ornamental trees and shrubs that enhance the grace of the temple itself. Watching the waves crash against the temple rock you wonder how it has been able to withstand the elements. There has been some restoration but it is still quite beyond belief that it could have survived on this rock for 500 or so years. It is worth a visit and awe inspiring.\n\nThe one big negative about this site is the commercialization that has become part of the \temple business\". I don't know if the temple itself derives any benefit from the hundreds of vendors that line the entrance to the venue. Most of what is sold is only there for the tourist. Restaurants have been erected so the tourist will have a place to eat. One can only hope the temple benefits some how from these businesses."
(38) Have visited Tanah Lot together with my husband on the 20th of August. The place is beautiful, especially the Temple. However, there were 2 people sitting at the stairs of the Temple saying to us that we are not allowed to go to the Temple due to the fact that they had a ceremony. I believe is unacceptable to stop tourists entering the temple since they come to Bali not every day!!!
(39) Tanah lot temple is amazing place to view sunset and feel the sea breeze. The place is located somewhere between west and south west of bali. It has lot of shops to shop from. It is recommended to visit this place as early as 3 pm to enjoy this place and its sunset as the entire shopping market closes at at once immediately after sun sets in. The clothes and slippers are available at a good bargain at almost 1/4th of the price. If shopping is in your mind, give this place a must visit.
(40) As highlighted by previous reviewers, the entrance fee is expensive at IDR 60,000. The area is very commercialized with stalls selling souvenirs & beverages. This temple was the last stop in our itinerary. The crowd was massive. By the time we reached Tanah Lot temple, it was already high tide & the bridge connecting the temple to mainland was already covered by the tide. Announcements were made informing people of the dangers of the high tide & no one seemed bothered until a few people got wet by the high waves. It was then that people starting moving back. We are planning to return to this temple at an earlier time to avoid the crowds in our next visit to Bali.
(41) I went on a recent trip to Bali to the Tanah Lot Temple, way too many people and usual tacky junk for tourists. Not really worth the bother .
(42) Went back after 20yrs. Hopibg it had not become a tacky tourist spot I was not disappointed. Set on its own rocky outcrop on the ocean Tanah Lot remains one of the most stunning temples I have seen on Bali. There are lovely grounds to walk around and a market. So glad I went back.
(43) Tanah lot is well worth the visit but make sure it is a clear day and not overcast if you are looking for a special sunset. It can get very crowded around the market areas so pace yourself in the high season. When we went it was relatively quiet and a pleasant experience. We went up to the sunset terrace and claimed our spot expecting a crowd to follow, but as it happens it was a quiet night with tourists. It was a serene and peaceful experience and well worth the visit.
(44) Completely overrun with tourists and surrounded by markets filled with cheap trinkets. The shoreline was covered in trash thanks to the crowds and the temple itself is essentially inaccessible to the public. I like a sunset as much as the next person, and we did enjoy it here when we visited, but I won't bother to visit Tanah Lot again.
(45) Tanah Lot Temple is one of the most touristic place in Bali. \nYou will have to go through 50 meters of shops trying to sell you typical touristic stuff.\nBut the view worth it totally! The location is absolutely amazing and the sunset on the temple make you forget all the tourists around trying to take a selfie :)
(46) Tanah Lot Temple in Tabanan\nVery nice view, Temple on the beach , on the way to Temple , you can see many shop to do shopping \nI recommend you must visit Tanah Lot Temple in Tabanan
(47) Nice place to visit. Located on a beach.O ld temple.\nBeautiful handicrafts.\nLocated in the middle of rocks. \nHuge place very beautiful and scenic\nThe drive to tanah lot is green and scenic\nMust visit place
(48) Tanah Lot Temple is quite a sight. The view is mesmerizing. We were not allowed to go on the top in the temple but you can still take the holy water and pay some money and climb 10 steps if you want (that was a little awkward actually) but overall the sun sinking in the ocean will make your day
(49) I haven't been to Tanah Lot Temple for 25 years and only went because it was something to do. What a surprise, theirs loads going on hear now apart from the temple itself. There are restaurants and shops and all sorts of stuff to do. Quite a busy spot though if you go on a holly day but very interesting to watch the ceremonies.
(50) The experience at Tanah Lot Temple was absolutely amazing. This is an absolute must see. This is such a popular attraction and is unfortunately always busy, but still so much worth to see it. There is also a huge market where prices are much more reasonable than in Kuta and Legian. Will definitely visit again but allow more time to walk through the market.
(51) Do yourself a favour and go visit Tanah lot temple while in Bali. \nIt's in a very picturesque location and there is also some local markets there should you want to do some shopping. Great location and some great pictures can be had here
(52) After visiting (among others) Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu Bratan and Taman Ayun I didn't quite have the same reaction to this temple. It may be because it was the last of the main Balinese temples we visited, but while the location was really cool it didn't send out any WOW-waves to me.\n\nRemember to dress appropiately. If you happen to forget there are sarongs available near the ticket booth. You can buy a ticket for the dancing there as well. We decided to skip the dance to secure a nice spot to catch the sunset as it was uncomfortably busy. We found a good viewpoint as primarily Chinese people scurried around us like hovering butterflies. Braving the crowds was completely worth it though. Even with a mildly cloudy sky the sunset was gorgeous.
(53) The view of the temple is great. Much better than Tanah Lot temple in term of scenic view. If you have limited time and this is the temple you should visit.
(54) This temple is equally beautiful as \Tanah Lot\"\" temple. Surrounded by lush green hills, view from this temple area was magnificent. A lake, known as \"Bedugal lake\" surronds and adds beauty to this wonderful place. Situated among the hills, weather here was awesome, not too cold not at all hot."
(55) Viewing the Temple and capturing the sun setting beside it was a great experience. We have visited the Tanah Lot Temple many, many times over the years and watched it change from a Temple on a hill to an incredible work of art displayed beautifully for the public to wonder over. It is now a landscaped vision that leaves the mind lost for comment. Where we once sat on the grass with camp chairs is now a canopied seating area which, unfortunately, has been commercialised but is now a bit more user friendly. The drive to the Temple has changed beyond belief. What was once a drive through the paddy fields is now a solid continuation of shops/houses/businesses the entire way. A great shame but you cannot halt the future. Still worthy of the extra effort needed to visit.
(56) One must start early if he plans to watch the sunset at Tanah Lot as the traffic is terrible on the way.\nThe crowd is huge as it is a very popular tourist destination
(57) in my opinion this temple is much better than Tanah lot, maybe because the location that far from kuta so it not as crowd as Tanah Lot,
(58) Tanah Lot. It’s a bit like a pop concert. After sunset, everyone leaves at the same time, so the traffic back is INSANE. It took us less than 90 minutes to drive up there from Nusa Dua. The drive back took just short of 2.5 hours! It was madness and completely took the shine off the experience. It’s a beautiful temple and an unforgettable sunset, but I’m not sure I’d ever want to do it again, thanks to the traffic.
(59) Very nice place. Must visit when u go to bali\nWe enjoyed watching the sunset from the restuarants has a terrace with tanah lot view.\n\nSuggestion:\n*Place signs (No swimming).\n*Place garbage basket in all over tge place to keep it clean.\n* security staff next to beach.
(60) Tanah Lot sits on a rock jutting out over the Balinese Sea. It is one of seven sea temples lining the coast of Bali. There is a cave at the base of the temple which contains fresh water and is said to have magical powers. The setting is what makes this place special for tourists and the urge to take photo after photo is great. The grounds/gardens are well kept and there is scattered Hindu statuary. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is very commercialized. One must walk through a gauntlet of markets, shops, carts and people hawking everything imagineable. One must pay to use a filthy, squat type bathroom. The temple itself is not open to tourists. There Is no dress code to enter the grounds. Crowds were enormous and we were there in the afternoon on a weekday. We chose not to stay for the sunset as the crowds would have been a huge detraction. I was disappointed in the lack of solemnity this religious site evoked. |
