(1) Yes, that songs ring in my head when we were standing on the cliff side of Uluwatu Temple facing the big ocean. \n\nThough actually Uluwatu main attraction was sunset with the Kecak Dance as the Intro, but after having Tanah Lot the day before I want to try something different. \nAnd YES, it was totally different.\n\nStarting with the parking lot; though there are some food and drink stall yet I dont see any souvenir stall. Next going into the monkey forest, we were quite lucky as they were having their banana lunch so we can see them in their quiet mode, eating and chewing banana while sitting calmfully.\nNext the temple, its quite high so it will be very challenging if you bring a toddler because you will need to carry the toddler. And also if woman visitor are in their period they cannot enter the temple (but you can still enjoy the ocean scenery from the side ways).\nWell the walk up suddenly very worthwhile once you reach top and go to the cliff side, it was just an ocean greets your eyes. The sunset from here might add different feeling with Tanah Lot, but the ocean view at afternoon and morning is also mesmerizing. I went there not on peak season so its not so crowded, you can choose spot to take photo with the ocean as your background.
(2) We have visited tanah lot during our bali visit. It was a very nice place. The view from tanah lot is mesmerizing. However temple was closed due to high tide but still we spent very nice time being there. Its an excellent architectural monument. I will definitely visit again.
(3) Just great . very nice place . I think this temple is unique , a temple in the ocean , woooow .\nDon`t miss Tanah Lot .
(4) Tanah Lot is a beautiful temple and if you are lucky you may see it with a sunset behind it.\n\nWe walked down on the rocks with lots of other tourists. As it was over cast and there were lots of tourists arriving we decided to go up on the cliff and have a drink and people watch.\n\nLots more hawkers since we were here in 2008, and an additional \holy\" white Python.\n\nIt is worth making the effort to get here and if overcast try to leave before the large tourist buses depart - there is one way in and one way out."
(5) good temple with beach back in low.. But can't reach beach as it's located on hill but best to go in evenings to enjoy sunset..(prefer tanah lot as beach n temple same level)
(6) My father and I visited three temples while vacationing in Bali and Tanah Lot was by far the best. It was crowded with tourists but we were still able to get some great pictures and enjoy the immaculate grounds. There were no monkeys to dodge and no garbage laying around. \n\nWe went in the morning (around 10:30am) during low tide so we could access the temple better. I'm sure sunset would be beautiful as well but there will be more tourists which is what we were trying to avoid.
(7) Interesting temple and good place for sunset but not as good as Tanah Lot. Lots of tourists but that is to be expected. I would never count on a good sunset on this island. 9/10 times it will be blocked by clouds.
(8) Be selective when you go to this temple. It is 2nd to Tanah Lot for local ceremonies on the calendar.\nSometimes it takes hours to get there. Go out of temple season. Enjoy a different way home and head over the Bali Cliffs area and over to Padang Genoa and Nusa Dua. Ma,e sure you come home over the toll bridge. Fantastic.
(9) Tanah Lot is THE place to see a Bali sunset. It is the small temple perched on a rocky outcrop that is in photos, tour books and postcards everywhere but unlike many of these familiar sights this temple is wonderfully unique. \n\nMake sure you arrive well before sunset as it can get very busy here and there are a number of things that need to be done before you actually see the sunset. \n\nYou have to find a spot in the car park (after an entrance fee has been paid) and then go over to the entry where you have to have your tickets checked - so do not leave them in the car. Then it is through the various shops and past the hawkers before you make your way over to the temple and onto the beach. \n\nOnce there you can see the Holy Snake and/or que to have a blessing made and some moist rice stuck on your forehead by one of the priests. Tanah Lot is very much a working temple and it is good to keep this in mind. \n\nIt is also very busy. But relax. Move away from the crowds and just look at this beautiful place while you listen to the sounds of the sea. It's pretty amazing what a few breaths of ozone and a clearing of the mind can achieve. \n\nThere are various restaurants here where you can see the sun go down over a meal and a drink. The bigger ones are to the right if you are facing away from the temple but we went to the left and went to a much smaller, less crowded restaurant called Mandala. It is being redeveloped but the small, original dining room is still operating before the new one is complete and while it is not fancy you do see a great view of the sunset over a lovely, easy meal.
(10) Firstly let me make it clear- i am a huge fan of Bali and have spent a month here so far...\n\nBut Tanah Lot is, unfortunately, purely a money-grabbing exercise. Horribly over-priced with absolutely nothing to offer other than a lovely sun set (which you can see anywhere along the coast... for free.). Sunsets should not cost money.\n\nAs you enter the vicinity of Tanah Lot, you are asked to pay 60,000 per person, plus 3,000 per motorbike (this is big money in Bali, believe me). \n\nFive minutes after parking the bike and making the short walk to the cliff side, i realised wed been ripped off. Dozens of tour buses, a constant stream of tourists that absolutely pack the area, photographers offering to take your photo, “3,000 to use the toilet” signs and a small beach with a fair amount of rubbish on it significant memories.\n\nThe main thing that i felt annoyed about? There is really almost nothing here to see. A small temple with “Do not enter” signs slapped 150meters in front of it is all there was to “see”. \n\nBut... when the sun started to set behind the temple and over the ocen- stunning! But... is it worth paying the money for a sunset? In my opinion, no.\n\nMy overriding feeling- what was i paying for?
(11) the temple is not that impressive as Tanah Lot. Still I prefer it because of the surroundings. The temple itself is located on a top of a cliff, with a wonderful sea below. The clear water, the waves, the cliff itself is for me the main attraction. Nevertheless the temple itself worth seeing.
(12) Tanah Lot is perhaps the most visited temple in Bali. Its location gives you a very nice view of the sea and a spectacular sunset. But what is interesting about this temple is the fact that it is accessible to visitors only during low tide. Otherwise the rock on which it is built is turned into a small island, quite inaccessible, considering also the big and strong waves in the area.\n\nThe way to the beach area and to the temple itself is full of souvenir shops and eateries, drawing thousands of tourists to the place. It's a lovely place for shopping, provided you know how to haggle for lower prices. Tanah Lot is located some 20 kms north-west of Kuta and is usually included in day tours around Bali. Legend has it that a high priest from East Java traveled to Java in the late 15th century, came to the place and decided to build a temple there dedicated to the sea god Baruna.\n\nTanah Lot temple is open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. As you reach the temple, some priests in a cave near the entrance would sprinkle you with holy water and even put a flower on your head. They would not allow anyone to go up the temple without going through such a purification ritual. There is also a snake in the cave considered as a holy guardian of the place. From the entrance, you can go up the rock on which the temple is built, but only up to a certain point. The temple itself is not open to tourists.\n\nFrom the temple, go up to the park and catch a beautiful view not only of the Tanah Lot temple, but also of the rock formations in the area and of the open sea. It's great for pictorials even if the area tends to be crowded.
(13) Not just a temple, Tanah Lot is a unique place to visit and not to mention an amazing photo opportunity. There are smaller little temples you can go in too and it's surrounded by shops just a short walk from the temple itself. Downside would be the huge amount of tourists, but then again, I was one too! We paid 300,000 to get driven there, our guide to wait and take us back. Slightly expensive we found so try and pay that as a max
(14) During a day trip on the island we closed the day visiting the beautiful Tanah Lot temple. The temple is located on a rock in the water and is not accessible for visitors. The views though are definitely worth the trip. It takes up to 2 hours from Denpasar to get here, but the sunset views are breathtaking. The entry ticket is less than €5,- per person and a whole touristic village with shops and restaurants is build around it.
(15) There are just two or free nic buldings, croded with lot of tourists and local people. Definitly you can skip this temple, bether go to Tanah Lot temple.
(16) The water is in front and one can wade right to the rock. If we have to choose the top temple in Bali, Tanah Lot will definitely find its place. The broken beach and the calm beach make it an amazing sunset
(17) The Tanah Lot Temple is a famous tourist attraction to be visited during the Sunset to enjoy the most spectacular sunset. Don't miss the fresh BBQ seafood dinner at the Cliff Restaurant ! We were taken on our tour by a local guide called Comang. He was very friendly & attentive on the whole of our holiday in Bali & a person who can be recommended for cheap yet comfortable tours in Bali. He can be contactable via +62 877 6004 4646.
(18) Tanah Lot Temple is truly beautiful, the setting is amazing. However I found after visiting a few temples, that there is no information on hand about the places. I really wanted to know the history, but there are no handouts and when asking the locals they didn't quite grasp what I wanted to know. It was very hot when we went and luckily our driver recommended we take an umbrella with us for shade, can't recommend this enough for everyone. There are lots of market stalls and shops while walking down to the temple and also people taking photos for you, but if you aren't interested they do leave you alone.
(19) We hired a driver for the day and Tanah lot was one of our stops, we went mid afternoon, there is a market available before you walk through the gardens to get to Tanah lot, the views are breath taking, and our luck was in as the tide had gone out. We walked over to the small cave under the temple where the priests blessed us , they placed a symbol on our foreheads made of rice, we donated some money and this allowed us to climb steps up the side of the temple, please note you cannot go up and explore the temple itself as its of limits. The second cave, has the temples sea snakes in it, again for a small donation, you can go in to see them, we choose not too, and instead explored the rock pools with our children, which had crabs and fish in them, Tanah lot is a stunning place to visit, take your camera!....there are facilities such as shops and toilets... Our family spent about an hour and a half there .
(20) You won't feel the magic or serenity since this place is very popular and setup for tourists. But it's still worth a visit, just imagine the place without tourists. Get close to the water and you'll get a photo without any people in them. It's worth the hike up to the lookout, to see Tanah Lot rock below, but be prepared for the heat! You can make a $5 donation for a blessing by the \holy\" spring, why not :)"
(21) Tanah lot is nice place, but here is a lot of tourists, come early or go little bit to distance, you will have still very good view without tourists
(22) You can't come to Bali and not go to see the temple at Tanah Lot. It is as stunning as the photos would suggest. Your appreciation of it, and your ability to get closer to it, will depend on the tides. If you visit at low tide you will be able to get quite a bit closer than at high tide. Either way it is still a great location.
(23) Tanah lot was the last destination on my half day tour. Check the weather and sunset time before booking a tour/self-drive or you may not see the perfect view. You should also think about the traffic influence to schedule the time. I recommend to be there before 5:45pm and take a nice spot and wait for the sunsets. You can also see millions of bats flying out during the sunset just like the congress bridge in Austin.
(24) We visited here at high tide do don't even try to get across during this time. I'll keep this short but tanah lot is a Beautiful place....not so good if you don't like snakes. Small entry fee and a fee to use the loos! Carry 2 or 3 thousand rupiah for a pee or a poo!\n\nA must visit while in Bali. Not good for kids as they can easily fall from\nthe cliffs.
(25) We have been to Bali several times but have never been to any temples..So off we headed to Tanah Lot Temples..Was such a beautiful and serene experience (minus the shops),we spent 3 hrs or so walking around and taking it in,we walked over to the temple through the water and drank the water coming tthrough the mountain and was blessed by the priests..The sunset was beautiful,it was a bit difficult getting a picture as there was people everywhere..i would recommend this attraction for a visit
(26) I was not impressed much by Tanah lot - its a beautiful view point, but then they dont allow non -nationals inside the temple and over the rock - so taking all the stress to watch this from a distance is not that great in my mind - but it is one of the most crowded places in Bali.\nSo go if you need a proof of being in Bali, but there are more beautiful view points here.
(27) Tanah lot is a beauty, we reached there in the evening around sunset, and we were told by locals that the most beautiful sunset you can see from Tanah Lot, it was true.\nThere is a Bazaar which sells local handicrafts, Balinese traditional dresses and few restaurants, it looks like an old fashioned open-air Bazaar. This Temple which was built in 16th Century for worshiping Goddess Baruna, is one of the most beautiful sea temple I ever saw. The only thing which was disturbing that this is overcrowded, and you get so many people that it becomes hard the feel the beauty of this place, but it still worth to visit
(28) It's a must visit place in bali. The temple just on the shore of sea with spring water generated from sea and mesmerizing sunset view. This place also provide some great photography place. There is a park on the hill to view the temple. You can also see a hole in between the hill on the right side of the tanah lot temple from the park.
(29) Tanah lot is worth a visit to see the magnificient rock-cut architecture of the temple. It is on the coast and offers a decent view of the sunset. We visited during low-tide, so were able to walk around the rocks. Would probably look great during high tide.\nThe temple complex has loads oof souvinier shops and eateries - with heavy tourist footfall.
(30) Tanah lot temple is Balis one of the most important landmark known for its unique sea side location and beautiful sunset. Temple is broadly divide into offshore and onshore shrines. Approach to temple is filled with shops and restaurants. The temple gets pretty crowded especially over the evenings when people come from all over to enjoy breath-taking sunset. The walkway to outer shrine gets submerged during high tide and is only accessible during low tide window. So, do check tidal timings over the net before you decide to go there to avoid waiting for long hrs. like I had to.
(31) You need to cross the water, with a few steps to go to the Temple. Visitors are not permitted to visit the temple itself. But you can enter the rock and get yourself a blessing.\nThere arebeautiful caves, rock formations created by the sea\n\nIt was a sunny day, and the sun tans your skin quickly.\nWe sat down in the garden with the scenic view of Tanah Lot, rocks and the sea. Cool spot for LandscapeSea pictures. \nEntrance 60k per adult, parking 2k (ok I guess they use it to preserve the area, although there is lot of mass tourist activities like already big market and new restaurants under construction)
(32) If you would like to enjoy the sunset, the view at Tanah Lot beach is breathtaking. I went there around 5 pm, just nice to witness the sunset. \n\nBut I just felt I should go there earlier to enjoy the beach breeze and stay long there and have a walk. \n\nThe place will stary get darker as early as 6pm. And you are required to vacate the place latest by 7pm.\n\nI enjoy the sunset and the big waves hitting the rock and the water splash. Tanah Lot is one of the best place I ever visited although I'm not a beach person. \n\nI found relax with the sound of the waves and the breeze.
(33) Tanah Lot in Bali is a wonderful place. Try to visit in the evening and never miss the sunset. During low tide, you can visit the temple.
(34) Tanah Lot is an important temple for Balinese Hindus and the location of the temple is located on a large rock off the coast. Tanah Lot Temple is an icon of the tourism of the island of Bali. Besides that, one of the famous tourist attractions on the island of Bali that must be visited. Because so famous tourist attractions in Bali, then almost every day, this tourist attraction is always crowded with tourist visits.\n The tourist activities that are currently in the Temple area, most of which will be sightseeing, photographs. Some tourists sit there relaxing, while enjoying boiled corn while waiting for the beautiful view of the Tanah Lot sunset.
(35) Tanah Lot is beautiful Temple, i was there in January 2018. was great time in Tanah Lot waiting for the Sunset, have great view to the ocean. But on weekend will be so crowded. So far it's Beautiful place
(36) We stayed in a hotel very close to Tanah Lot Temple. We went there every morning and evening for 5 successive days. It is truly one of the best place to visit in Bali, especially at sunset time. It is absolutely beautiful.
(37) The sunset here is breath taking with the backdrop of the temple and the waves washing the shore, beautiful sight. You have to walk quite a distance from the carpark to Tanah Lot choose a not so hot day otherwise you will just be sweating even before you reach the place
(38) Last July,2014 We enjoyed sunset at Tanah lot. On our way back from Lake bratan to Kuta Beach we had chance to enjoy this beautiful Temple. It was really crowded. Plan to go there at least two hours before sunset if want to visit the whole place. After sunset there is nothing much to do. Highly recommending to visit this place at evening time.
(39) Tanah Lot is a nice temple which is connected by a narrow strip of land which in high tide looks like a separate island. During low tide, you can walk-up to the island and enjoy the scenic view all around. There is a bamboo through which holy water flows out. But beware of quacks who don't let you to enjoy and experience it in the name of fleecing money. You can get good coconut water to cool off in nearby shopping area. The shopping area has lot of variety but somehow the shopkeepers didn't seem much interested to sell their wares and seemed disconnected.
(40) My husband and I visited this week as part of a books 'Tanah Lot' tour. It was just us and our tour guide, so he could explain to us what we were seeing and allowed us to ask questions. \n\nThe temple is beautiful, although we would recommend that people go at sunset as to be honest this helped set the scene. We did not get chance to go into the temple as there was something happening at the time.
(41) We were so disappointed with Tanah Lot and after we had visited, we wished that we had not gone. To get to the temple you first have to go through a maze of shops which is people selling all their craft. It felt like we were in a mall rather than going to a temple. If the tide is not right, you can hardly see the temple and all it looks like is a warung on top of a rock. If you go during sunset, you can get the low tide but the views are still underwhelming if you are wanting to see a really awesome temple - the sunset was a better view and you can watch that somewhere else where there are not hundreds of people.
(42) Located on Tabanan Regency where need 2 hour from Denpansar. That place known as a best sunset in Bali but unfortunately I couldn't got that experience due to my visit just for bussiness. So sad. Eventhough I enjoyed the sunny days there. If you cross the sea go to the offshore temple, you would got offered holy water from Hindu people. But be careful due to high waves there. Tanah Lot Temple is simply among Balis not-to-be-missed icons. Don't miss it guys...highly recommended
(43) You can see all the pictures and no doubt will have heard of Tanah Lot Temple as a must see in Bali. It is well worth visiting to see the temple and surrounding coast area. If you go at the right time you can walk out to the base of the temple. Expect large crowds when you do visit.
(44) If u are in Bali you cant miss this place , the temple is in lovely , the drive from city to tanah lot is so good , with all the paddy fields , watching local culture was so much fun .. u can shop outside the temple very much like any indian temple
