(1) The location of the temple in the lake with the mountain backdrop at the back was mesmerizing! Impressive temple in the lake! Took a lot of photos and stayed around a bit watching the dances (there was an art festival going on when I visited).
(2) You get 2 temples on the price of one. One is on the cliff and one on a rock by the sea. Two very different views and experiences. Must visit
(3) This is our main destination we travelled to Bali last week. With only 20k rupiah we can see a very cool lake with a beautiful temple on the water. Fascinating.. There are duck boats to rent, i also saw a speedboat rider on the lake. It was cloudy and almost raining when we got there.. There are a lot of photographers.. they know all the best spot to get the best pic. I ask how much, they said 15k each print!wow.. the cheapest in Bali.. so we booked one. It took about 10-15 minutes until the photo print done. Before exit gate there is a cafe restaurant, then public toilets. After exit gate we have to passed through lots of shops. We would love to go back there again..
(4) Of all the temples we visited in our trip this was, in my opinion, the best one if valued by their view and location. Its lakefront location has breathtaking views.
(5) Actually my favorite temple in Bali so far! I liked its colorfulness and its modern type. Liked its ambiance! There are activities you can do aside from taking pictures! Very interesting temple shrines. I liked it here very much, there’s a different feeling of involvement, refreshing and relaxing stay. Proud to recommend!
(6) There are some very good spots on the cliff that have a really good views, and the temples are very interesting. Just be sure to go on a cool day as it can get very hot with little shade around and get very crowded due to the popularity of this place.
(7) It's a temple by the sea. It's worth checking out especially sunset. The only bad thing is - very busy as this is one of the top attraction in Bali. 👍🏻
(8) Do not miss this temple!! Make sure to go around 5 pm so as to enjoy the sunset and the fire dance if you have the time. I would suggest having a taxi organized to wait on you it’s very common in Bali and makes life easy as it’s hard to find a taxi afterwards.
(9) The spirituality is gone from the place.\nThe \monks\" there only want your money and you feel like a human atm. It's sad.. The view of the ocean is great though which is why it gets a two and not just one."
(10) Yes lovely temples but completely swamped by stalls, shops and cafes. Temples are like an afterthought with no precedence placed on the importance of the temples.\nFor a religiously important site, rubbish strewn and dumped in the back allys but not surprising for Bali which is a ticking time bomb of plastic & trash.\n\nNo control on numbers means you'll be shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of others trying to at least enjoy the visit.\nLasted about 20 minutes, took couple photos. Wouldn't waste your time especially if you've been ripped off for transport getting there.\nUse Uber instead, locals hate it as they can't rip you off, so you'll save a load of cash!
(11) I was disapointed. I am traveling around Bali and I saw many more interesting places and temples. This is just one by the lake, thats all. Also overcrowded by tourist.\nSorry but I have to say that this is nothing special... :/\nWater temple much more interesting and better.
(12) This temple is famous because it is located by the sea. Very famous attraction in Bali. You have to visit the cave also to find out other unique and scary myth im this temple.
(13) When this temple was built back in 1634 AD it would have been very beautiful, situated as it is by the lake. This temple is a sacred place used by Hindus to worship God in his manifestion of God as TRI MURTI (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). It is just a pity that someone decided to add rather large plastic animals like frogs in the grounds which detract from the beauty of the place. After all it is not supposed to be a children's playground.
(14) I went here with friends from London and Australia. The temple always busy as always. Lots of Balinese people and tourist vame and pray at temple and asked for holy water.\nLocation has big car park and we pay entrance ticket. Ticket for local and foreigner are different rate. We passed local shops/ arcade which is selling Balinese art and cloth. The gate of the temple full of people taking picture. For best view, we went to the cafe which is close with the temple. We can see the temple and sunset clearly. Food price are cheap. \nWe are glad we got perfect sunset there.
(15) A real lovely place to visit although very very busy and crowded as well. Very different when you first arrive at the car park, it’s like a small city. Lots of shops, restaurants and much to m wife’s delight a Gloria Jeans !!! \n\nThe prices are really good at the shops and surprisingly you don’t get hassled, which for some people will be a bonus. The temple itself is nice and you certainly can get some nice pictures if you are that way inclined. You can walk over to the temple, it’s a bit tricky tho and slippery. \n\nOnce you get there you get blessed (for a donation) but you cant really go anywhere else on the temple as there is blocked access at both sides which was a bit disappointing. Definitely a must see while in Bali 8/10.
(16) Good place to hang around, well maintained.\nYou will feel connected to nature, wild life and Hindu spiritual traditions all together.Ootimum time required is 2 hours.
(17) This place is wonderful. A temple in the middle of the ocean. If you are lucky you can see the Brahman's ceremony. That's cool. If you will go to Bali, you should definitely see this temple. Balinese people ohh my god, they are so sweet :)))
(18) This temple was absolutely breath taking, a short 10 minute walk for this to take your breath away, 30,000 IDR to enter which isn't anything but for the views and great photos it is more then worth it, a few hagglers along the walk asking for money for food and toys etc but just ignore it !\n\nWill go back again for sure !
(19) A temple seemingly afloat on a lake evokes many beautiful images, and this attraction aches that , with plenty of places for that “ I was there” picture. Because of this , many visitors cram here so be patient. There is a small restaurant , but it’s simpler just to buy some water, and dodge the souvenir stands. Most people seem to eat at the many warungs that line the roads leading to this site.
(20) This is a very beautiful temple in the lake. The park around it is lovely to walk through. There are some large plant animals for your amusement. I held a fruit bat while here.
(21) - very cool temple\n- not a must see, but if you're in the area (visiting Jatiluwih rice fields), then its definitely worthwhile
(22) We visited this temple after seeing some beautiful photos but when I saw it in real life it didn't impress me at all. Its a little temple on a rock. You cant go inside just look from the far. To get to the temple place you need to pay 30 000 rp. just to get in to this little village. The \village\" consist of one main street with all the stuff that people are selling everywhere in Bali and few small streets with warungs and little cafes.\nEverything is overpriced. Around temple full of tourists so even to make some great photos is very hard. Not worth visiting if its not on a way."
(23) nice place and famous for the photos .. but the waiting time is tooo much and wasting so much of time just for photos are not worth.. if you have a good mirror you can take similar one at many places may not be as perfect but similar .. even the hotel gates were similar and we tried and got beter photos in kuta beach entrance.. \ngood temple but they dint allow us inside even when we said we are HINDU .. but thats not an issue a we respect their culture..\n\nits a long journey and will kill a total day .. better to avoid
(24) Like all other Bali traditional temples, we cant go inside but the place is a real catchy one. Recommend this place for visitors
(25) Enchanted atmosphere soaking up the rays of sunshine. Relax and take in the views and appreciate life. What a wonderful world we live in makes you appreciate all that life has to offer.\nAdvise to wear suitable footwear for walking through on the rocks for those brave enough to walk in flip flops be careful of the slippery rocks. \nGreat place, yes it's a tourist attraction so be mindful that there will be tourists from all over the world to see this amazing temple expect crowds.
(26) Dirty beach. No real access to temple. Sunset is nice if viewed from right location. Should use some of fees paid to clean up area. Snake temple the guy sat counting him money continually which found very bizarre in place of worship.. Much better temples in bali to see
(27) The most stunning temple we have visited in Bali. Our young children even said it was their favourite thing to do today. There is not a lot of hard walking and the view is beautiful.
(28) Breathtaking views over the ocean as the waves crash onto the rocks over beautiful views of stunning temples .. a must see for anyone visiting Bali ..
(29) The place offers a very beautiful sunset. The temple is in the water and has to be trod on.the water is shallow and hence easily accessible. The place offers a beautiful panoramic view. the temple consists of a holy pool. There is a view point at a considerable height.
(30) We went on a 3 Temple tour, but this one was the most spectacular. Too cloudy to catch the sunset but an amazing Temple built by hand and formed by the sea
(31) This is one of the best place in Bali. The temple surrounded by fog and lake. Must try boating here . Boating cost was 122000 IDR. But it is really worth paying the amount and enjoying the boat ride..
(32) Just the best place we visited at bali. There are some rules to be followed. You have to cover your waist with a Dothi and tie a special string around. All these are provided after you take the pass on payment. \nA vast expanse of a serene atmosphere within is most impressive. Absolutely clean and neat. hats off to the maintenance team to keep it clean with a huge crowd visiting daily.\nThe western side is surrounded by the sea which makes it even more beautiful. Sea is rough. You can walk around for any length of time. You have a lot of steps to climb. take your own time or go through the middle road without steps.\nThere is no entry into the temple for tourists. You got to be careful with monkeys who can be a bit dangerous. careful with all your belongings the monkeys can pick and disappear.
(33) It was a fairly long drive but it was worth it. It is a lovely temple and you need to cover up when you get there out of respect. The views are just gorgeous, up and down the coast and very high up. There are also monkeys running around but they pretty much leave you alone. It's a nice thing to do if you want to feel like you are at one with nature. We went in the daytime so didn't see any dances
(34) Beautiful temple on the water. Very unique spot in Bali- while there are many templates all over Bali, this one stood out to us as very different. The temple has 11 different layers that each represent an aspect of the earth to pray for: water, mountain, sun, etc. It also is located in a beautiful area near the rainforest in the mountains so the drive has beautiful scenery!
(35) Nice temple with beautiful views. It has a black sand and a very beautiful beach with rock hills around the temple. Enjoy the sunset with young coconut ice, really quality time. Our children love to visit this temple, A great experience with the family!
(36) The temple is very sacred and old and is set upon an island in the middle of the bay Cliff area with great viewing areas from above the restaurants looking down if you want to travel down to the actual temple and meet the priest and have him bless you and put a flower behind your ear you can only do it at low tide as well as viewing the holy snake in the cave directly beneath the restaurants on the beach exposed lava rock area Both of these areas are only accessible at low tide times they change every day so it’s best to seek out a tide table for the island of Bali tide tables. If you look at my photos here on this post you will see a photo at low tide with many people walking around taking photographs around the tide pools and having access to the old temple where you can meet with the priest and take photos for a small donation the other photo is at high Tide which is extremely dangerous and people have actually drowned . That’s why I recommend going either in the mornings before the big crowd buses come with all the tours or in the late afternoon you can take photos of the beautiful sunset behind the temple from above the restaurant areas where you can enjoy a light meal or snack and a beverage please be careful if you have small children there was a cliff with no adequate safety railings do not get too close to the cliff . If your time schedule will not allow you to do the morning or evenings depending on the tide you have other things to do there as well as taking photos of the temple from above no matter what the tide is they also have a snake park area where you can put a huge albino yellow python around your neck for photos they also have a huge bat which is actually a flying fox you can take photos of as well you have to look for it to find it and one of the best things is the “civet “ \nWhich is a small nocturnal animal which is found in the forests above Valli and southeast Asia their diet consist mostly of berries vegetables and their favorite snack is coffee berries which they eat after they fall in on the Forest floors , which after that you digest them they poop them out and farmers collect them and sell them for more than the weight of a gold which is priced coffee sold at some of the better hotels and restaurants worldwide known as “ Kopi Luwak “ which means coffee from civet in Bahasa Indonesia language , Up the footpath towards the restaurant overlooking the temple is where you will find them resting in a small little stand underneath the gazebo next to all the little souvenir shops as you approach the restaurants overlooking the temple on the cliff you can’t miss it they are so cuddle you can pet them but just watch out for their poop PU !
(37) There are not many tourist when we visit this place so we can easily take picture in the best spot. Dont expect to see many things because this is a temple not a place made solely for sightseeing. The entrance ticket is quite cheap for domestic tourist (adult 10k and childre 7,5k). It's a place worth visiting because it's cheap and beautiful.
(38) The temple is nice to see and there were plenty of people taking selfies with it. Unfortunately the surroundings are disgusting. Sponge bob and lots of other fiberglass critters ruined the feel. \nThere are also lots of schlock shops selling tourist souvenirs etc
(39) The walk towards the temple is packed with souvenir shops. When you want to go to the temple, you’re not allowed in as a tourist even if you wear a sarong. That is ok, but while being denied tourist in short shorts and tanktops came back from the stairs down from the temple. Their very irregular with who they let in and who they dont let in. \nThe temple itself is nice but very small. Its nog worth the 60k.\n\nImportant: if you want to go back by taxi you need to walk at least 30 min to find someone who will take you. There are ni Gojek, Grab ór regular taxi’s from the temple.
(40) The temple is awesome, the lake and the mountains make a great view. It you are lucky to be there on a clear day, you'll be rewarded with a great panorama of these three elements.\nThe temple is smaller than expected, but great anyway.\nHad a great trip there and it's worth it.
(41) We arrived at 9:40am and the place was fairly packed. Scenery is nice, but it sounds like it is more an amusement park for local children than a sacred temple. Overall good, but don't go out of your way to see this.
(42) We didn't know there is festival on Bali Island and there were traffic everywhere. We got stuck in traffic for almost 2 hours! There is only one way in! When we arrived, it's already pass sunset time. The view is great but the temple itself is not as decorated as other temples. So if you are going there, make sure you have time to catch the sunset. I think it doesn't worth the drive to go for the temple unless you want to experience the history.
(43) The place is really beautiful but the problem is they dont let you enter the temple if you are not dressed in their local attire. hence I sincerely request everyone to wear the local attire to enjoy the temple.
(44) Go visit when you are in the neighbourhood, otherwise I would skip it. The views are nice, the temple not very special.
(45) It is temple like every other, but two times nore expencive. Entrance is 60.000 and you can see alot of people taking pictures, chinese weddings etc. It is nise to see, but the price should be lower. Id rather go twice to Monkey Forest :)
(46) After fifteen years we finally were able to cross over to the temple. Amazing experience, would highly recommend this.\nShopping is fantastic. We hired a car for the whole day and the driver took us to where we wanted to see, this was better than a tour bus, more personnel.
(47) The temple is located in a very beautiful spot. Unfortunately people are not allowed to go upstairs.
(48) Go early. Avoid the hoards. Lovely views and landscape. Beautiful temple. Yes, it is touristy but we weren't hassled. Nice visit.
(49) Typical Bali ocean temple. The view is OK. Not impressive. \nYou have to walk a long way across the bad quality souvenir shops to get to it. \nAnd takes no more than 20 mins to finish the entire place.\n\nOnly special thing here is \You have to pay to go to the dirty toilet here\"\n\n3000 inside the site, 2000 in the car park.\n\nThat's not a lot of money. But, very bad atmosphere, doesn't make you feel good.\n\nI don't think this place worth to visit. \n\nThe view at Tirta Empul is definitely better. ( I'm not sure whether you have to pay for toilet there. But don't expect it to be clean)"
(50) Tanah Lot was on our wishlist and we drove there using our driver that took us on a daytrip already. We had expected to see a beach and a temple on a rock, as you see on all the brochures. Well, let me tell you that this place is a genuine tourist trap! Oh yes, there is a rocky beach at low tide. There is a temple on a rock. But there is also an entrance fee of IDR 60.000. There are also over 3000 other visitors. Not only do they pay this fee (you do the math of the money they make out of this every day!) but also are they all in your way when you want to make pictures. Try and photoshop that...\nThe whole place looks more like a village with touristshops for as far as you can see. \nAnd even if you choose to ignore all of the above, the view of the temple and the sun going down is way overrated. You'll most likely get better views elsewhere. \n\nWell, save yourselve the trouble, your money and a whole lot of time getting back afterwards (traffic is awfull as everyone wants to get back over the same road after sunset). \n\nTo end this positive, I shall give you the details of our taxidriver who took us here and whom we hired twice. He, Made Sunarta, was such a nice, modest, kind, and even witty person. You'll come to love him as a person and you will appreciate his driving: cautious, comfortable and in a way you feel safe in the very busy Bali traffic. And also, he knows pretty much every corner on the island. Call or whatsapp him and hire him for a day or whatever time you want to be driven around. \n081 338 469948 (might need countrycode if you use your own simcard)\n\nIf this review was of help to you, pleas click \useful\" so I know I was of help to you. \n-"

(51) The biggest tourist attraction or tourist trap? Pay a expensive ticket to visit there, not a donation, printed ticket! No need to wear sarong, because this is not a real Hindu temple. Nice surround to take photos, that's only. Eating/selling meat or bringing meat products to this kind of fake Hindu temple is not allowed in Hindu culture! We visited this place in 1992 and it was free!!
(52) No es el templo más grande ni el más bonito, pero el entorno en el que se encuentra lo hace especial. Situado en un lago junto a los volcanes lo hace diferente a los demás templos.\n\nNot the biggest, neither the nicest temple, but the environment where it is placed makes it special. In the shore of a lake next to volcanos turn this temple different.
(53) Went to the temple with a group of friends for sunset, the temple itself is nice one of the oldest in Bali however don't think you will be there alone. On approach to the cliff where the temple is located the traffic backs up for miles, there is a toll gate & pay parking. To enter you will need to be suitably dressed so take a sarong otherwise they do have them at the entrance, be mindful though the closer it gets toward sunset the busier so they may run out. Once your in it is a short walk down to the cliff edge where you & literally around 500 other people will all wait to see the sunset, if that's the time of day that you go. \nWhen we went there was religious ceremonies being performed which are closed to the general public as is the majority of the temple, so keep in mind that you are really going for the cliff top view which is very nice. \nThere are monkey there so be careful of hats, sunglasses, cameras etc. as they will snatch them & you have very little chance of getting them back in one piece. \nAll in all it's worth a look however if you want to see the sunset & take photos then my advice is go early beat the crowds & work out where you want to be positioned for the moment when the sun goes down.
(54) Beautiful and scenic great photographic opportunity. Could not enter temple and can only walk up the stairs after paying for a blessing and cleansing donation. Would return to see this again
(55) After being hit on for rupiah at every tuen at the 'mother of temples' this place was a relief. \n\nToilets are free here. Yay!!\nYou can get a coke for 10k at the gate and good local food at local prices. \nThere's a 30k entry fee....\n\nIt's really a nice place and worth a look
(56) We paid to get into the temple area and thought we would be able to walk around the temple which is out in the ocean. In reality what you can do is walk to the base of it, pay more money to be blessed with 'holy water' and then walk back. When we tried to walk up the steps to the temple we were very rudely told 'this is not a place for sightseeing' which is interesting as people can pay to go and sightsee there. So overall you can't actually see the best bit of the temple!
(57) Nice clifftop view. That is all. The complex is widely spread but bland and empty. The only attractive area is open to worshippers only. Don't try eating at the warungs outside, you'll be covered with flies and ripped off for stale food.
(58) Came here as one of final stop of our half day tour. This is definitely one of those must see among all tourists checklist whether most try to arrive around the sunset timing. It is quite a pretty sight to have the temple on the cliff against such a backdrop and you can also heat the sound of huge waves clashing along the shore. It is filled with tourists everywhere trying to take group photos. From the car park to the viewpoint areas, there are quite a lot of shops selling souvenirs and quick bites, and there is even someone with a huge snake trying to get tourists to pay for photo taking with it round your neck.
(59) Although lot of people visiting this temple its the place when you can stop for a moment and enjoy the beauty of lake, mountains and temple itself.\n\nShame that part of it was under construction when we visited, but I can assure you its a place you need to see. Great gardens and spectacular view.\n\nits sometimes hard to see the whole view becouse of clouds hanging low.\nwe were lucky
(60) Certainly a fantastic place to visit, Rp30,000 entry fee, must wear a sarong & a sleeved shirt inside the Temple areas, best is to pay a tour guide approx. Rp50,000, well worth it. We had an elderly lovely gentleman named Gusti, most helpful & continued to apologise due to the fact he felt his English was not good enough. !!!! we understood him perfectly...Such an amazing place to visit, originally built back in 1946 for the Royal Family of East Bali, does need some renovations but imagine money is possibly the problems, !!! beautiful gardens, fish pools, even a pool should one wish to take a quick dip to cool off, lovely old sculptures & fountains, so peaceful & such an amazing place to visit even if it takes a full day it is so worth it. Highly Recommend & would suggest all tourists visit here.. |
