(1) Leading up to the temple is a huge area full of souvenir shops, restaurants, and chain stores. Great area for shopping and easy to find some food that you will enjoy. The temple itself sits out on a big rock, and we were not able to actually access the temple or go up to it, it was kind of difficult to get a nice view of the full thing. Down below the temple you can climb around on the rocks and walk under the rock shelves and some people were even enjoying the water. There was a park area with another viewpoint kind of further away but still had a nice view over the water and towards the temple.
(2) This is a beautiful place - once you work your way through half a mile of incessant market stalls, tourists, and street sellers. We avoided sunset (the recommended visit time) instead visiting at about 11.30am. It was still absolutely packed then, you had to fight/queue to get to the front to take photos, so it wasn’t a relaxing experience. That said, the temple is beautiful and really quite striking. We’ve travelled a lot but don’t think either of us have seen a beachfront temple quite like this.\n\nSo, in short, well worth a visit but be prepared for crowds of people and a rather hectic time.\n\nRecommend to maybe try visiting very early in the morning.
(3) Nice temple and amazing \nIts look different than only in picture. \nBe here its so wow, and enjoy the place. \nBut little crowd by the shop
(4) This is the picture of the temple on IDR 50.000 note. The view is really amazing, but the weather there was changing fast. Rainy and sunny day can be changed rapidly.
(5) Best destination in Bali,we are visit with Spanish honeymoon,we enjoy this journey,so join with sukabalitours to explore balinese culture.
(6) nice setting, no sarong required. have pool for guest. lovely place with beautiful sculptures and pools.
(7) Stunning sunsets can be seen over this beautiful Hindu rock temple in the sea with the waves lapping at the base, it is quite something.\nIt is a tourist attraction so it gets very busy but definitely worth a visit even if you can only spare 30 mins to take it in.
(8) A must see when in Bali! Best to visit the temple late afternoon and stay for the sunset. As the tide recedes you can walk out to the temple, which is normally surrounded by water. If this isn't for you, then you can enjoy the scenery from up on the cliff. So many areas to see and explore, you will not get bored here. Just outside the temple entrance is a great market, with hundreds of shops to explore. Prices are reasonable, but don't hesitate for a better price. The shops offer a wide variety of items, you will surely find something to take home. If you are hungry stop at one of the restaurants and grab a cold drink. You can also enjoy the sunset while dinning.
(9) Around one and a half hours each way in traffic from Sanur we arrived at 4;30 pm had a brief glance at the many market stalls on the way down to the Temple, People everywhere you look, The temple is well worth the traffic and crowds to get there very Spiritual and calming, went over to the cave near by to see a gentleman charging 5 to 10 thousand Rupiah to see and pat the holly snake {which didn't move and felt dead}\nAllow a bit of time to sit on the grass and take it all in just watch out for the young guy with the very large and very much alive snake that for a fee you can put it around your neck.A little bit commercialized
(10) A site by the sea, comprised of 2 average hindu temple complexes, one of them turning into island at high tide. Above the entry gates I would say nothing thrilling thete. If you have few hours free, can drop by.
(11) Pros:\nHistorical temple\nvery beautiful and unique temple\nnice scenery\nrich with Balinese Hinduism culture\n\nCons:\nTicket is a bit too expensive\nToilet also need to pay even we already pay for entrance ticket\nToo crowded
(12) What a fantastic setting for a temple. I would recommend anyone visiting Bali to visit here. We went at low tide which was great as we were able to walk out to the temple itself. It was busy but not overcrowded.
(13) I have seen 1 bajillion temples, but this one is worth making it 1 bajillion and 1.. It’s a special temple, but it’s sad that they don’t let you climb all the way up to see more. \nTouristy, but that’s okay it’s a nice way to kill some time and go see a pretty rad looking temple.
(14) This was one of our stops on our day long tour. Really neat spot and a must see if you're in Bali. We were here at about 11am, which was great because there were no crowds and you can get unobstructed photos, I know everyone wants the sunset photos but getting your own without having to fight crowds and being photo bombed, it was worth it.\n\nWe were here for about 45 minutes in total and got all the photos we needed as a family with the temples in the background...again that is largely based on the time of day we visited.
(15) Simply beautiful. The grand temple standing in the water is a great view to enjoy. You can enjoy the ocean view all over this place. The temple is beautiful. The entry fees is a bit expensive but it's worth considering the beauty.
(16) Beautiful temples. People get blessed in the spring water at the base of the rock and there is a Buddha in the cave with water coming out of his hands. A short walk to Warung Subak Pekendungan where we had lunch in one of the most interesting restaurants sitting over Koi fish and everything is made of bamboo.
(17) If any temple is worth a look its this one. Great views and best early in morning and late arvo due to the heat. Lots of room to walk around and get heaps of good photos
(18) Be sure to go when it is low tide, so you may go see the beautiful temple that is sitting on a naturally sculptured rock which was amazing.
(19) We visited the temple in the afternoon as it tends to get very crowded in the evenings. Especially if you self drive, recommend going there before 4.30 pm to avoid traffic. There is a tourism fee for adults and vehicles which you need to pay just before entering the parking area. The parking is a good 5 minute walk from the temple and the walk ways are between Souvenir shops and restaurants. Only 2 wheeler's are allowed in the walkway. \nThe temple site is beautiful and recommended for photo buffs. It can be approached only during low tide, so check the tide levels on internet if you want to go right up to temple, else you have to be satisfied with a few pictures 100 meters away! Lots of paid restroom facilities near temple. There are also many accommodation B & B's available close to temple. About 1.5 hours should be more than sufficient to cover this place.
(20) This was a temple on the ocean but wasn't a public working temple. The worship areas were blocked off. The attraction was set up to take everyone through all the retail shops and kiosks. I also am recovering from a knee replacement; there were a huge number of stairs and steps.
(21) It's more of a water garden than a temple.\n\nIt was nice to visit, but very small. Unless you are in the area, I would skip it.
(22) We went here on a Sunday at the beginning of February. Wish the tour company would have told us that this time of year and week is not a good time for tourist to visit this temple. Weekends are busier as a lot of Balinese are not working so they come here for ceremony. As a tourist go in the week, and go as early as possible in the day.\nFrom the end of January to the Balinese new year in March the temple is dedicated to ceremony, as EVERY Balinese person has to visit this temple once a year. Most of them leave this visit it til the end of the Balinese year, which is from January to March. It took us an hour to get from the village the bottom of the mountain to the car park, where it usually takes 5 minutes. \nBecause of ceremony we didn't get the opportunity to see or take pictures of heavens gate, nor explore the court yard of the first temple. (which is the one people go to see).\nI think any other time of the year and it would have been magnificent.
(23) Famous landmark in Bali consisting of rock formations by the sea and a Hindu temple. It is a very popular tourist area that when we got there, people came in in droves that we had difficulty getting near the rock formations. It was also high tide that we cannot get near the temple.
(24) This is probably one of the most famous temple in Bali that it was even printed in the rupiah bill. The temple looks very nice and peaceful. With the lake and the mountains behind it make scenery even more spectacular. The pictures taken here look like those of the postcards. \n\nRecommended for first visitors.
(25) This \terrible\" rating does not reflect the temple and the scenery - the temple is serene and the scenery stunning. But I want to warn visitors to stay well clear of the boat hire service which is offered within the temple grounds (not sure who runs the boat hire service but being within the ticketed perimeter I assume the temple administration does at least supervise the service). The facilities of the boat hire service are poorly maintained and the management is unprofessional. When trying to board a boat, the stone stairs down to the water collapsed under me and I was thrown into the water. Even though I was clearly injured as a result of the fall, there was no help from the boat crew or the management, only shrugs. So: do visit the temple, it is worth it. But don't use the boat hire"
(26) One of the more iconic temples of Bali, it really is lovely. The temple on the water is small but beautiful. There is definitely more to the grounds and worth a look around. Even on a crowded day you could find yourself some peace here.
(27) We were quite disappointed about this temple. Not nearly as nice as we expected it - there are other temples and places that are way more worth the visit, the time and the money. If you pass anyway, it's ok to have a look. But no detours or extra planning recommended - that's my opinion.
(28) Perfect place for walking talking lot of pics, you can take ⛵️ to see around the temple also if you bring with you lunch u can have it their
(29) It's a shame that we saw the temple when the tide was high and the sea was quite rough so we weren't able to get too close. Even so it is still a beautiful site at sunset! There is a fee of about £4 each to get in. It's then a short walk down to the sea front from the shops at the entrance - the walk is really nice and the sea views are beautiful. \n\nWe did it as a bit of a whistle stop tour and we only just made it for sunset! I would definitely recommend spending a bit more time to take in the amazing scenery. Not too much else to do but definitely worth a visit if you want to see a slightly different temple to those in Ubud.
(30) Beautiful temple! Definitely worth a visit. Have some cash if you want to do an offering. A lovely walk to the temple.
(31) Awesome place to catch the sunset! The priests in the temple were very helpful in crossing across through the tide. Very unique..
(32) It is the place where most local tourist come. Lots of west java culinary can be find here (somay, etc). When I was there the beach was too crowded of tourist buses. So I only took picture of big statues of Indian God (Krishna, etc). I think the most attractive spot is the big statues, cuz it is surely very very big statues.
(33) Lovely grounds and temple looks beautiful but you are a distance away , the commercial businesses that have sprung up around the location detract from the magic
(34) A must visit, especially at sunset! When visiting during the day, recommend planning your visit around high tide so that the temple is more of an island. During low time there are people all surrounding the temple - while you can get closer, you can’t actually go up it anyways, so all of the people are really just crowing your photo op :)\n\nIf you can, stay for sunset and view it from one of the restaurants on the south side of the temple. You can enjoy coconut water straight from the coconut while watching the sunset!\n\nPro tip: get a table on the edge or leverage one of the poles on the fence to rest your phone on time lapse while the sun goes down. You won’t regret it!!
(35) As this place is situated in the mountains, it's quite nice and cool. Temperature is in the low 20's and because it's fronting a natural lake, there's a refreshing breeze always. It's great to come here after a day walking under the hot Balinese sun. The temple is surrounded by vendors and multiple restaurants. There is also a pagoda here dedicated to Buddha.
(36) Lake on a volcano, temple in the middle, magical surroundings, small in size but such an energy comes out of it! A must visit. Nice villages on the way. Some boats on the lake ruins a bit the scenic view.
(37) It was a complete let down for us.\nI was expecting some hassle with costs and travel time and other tourists but not to this extent.\nFirst thing is getting there is a mission in itself with the small roads and traffic.\nPayment for truck ride up to temple.\nSteep incline walk up towards temple.\nLong long line to take a picture in the heat.\n1 hr++\nWe took different pics from different angles and left.\n\nMy suggestion to you is go REALLY early if you don’t want to end up in line. We got there at about 10am and it was packed.\n\nOther than the gate there is nothing else to do or see as the temple is only that small courtyard. So you drive all this way for that one picture.
(38) We visited this site during the day but closer to sunset time. So, we experienced it with sun, and sunset and tide. You walk on the rock close to the temple, get on the rock on which temple is located, make lots of photos. Anywhere you aim your camera is good view. What I also like is big noise from waves hitting rocks.\nYou will not see sun during sunset - it is cloudy almost every day. But no matter - sunset is still great with red skies. By the time it gets darker sea water floods the rocks and you cannot get close to the temple. So, you better come when it still light at around 5 pm.
(39) The cliff give you a great view to the ocean. There are also cafe where you can have tea. But the temple itself is very small and usually not opened for tourist.
(40) This temple is quite a sight. There are always a heap of tourists here but the view is the reason they come. It's best to visit earlier in the day as sunset time is really busy. \n\nThe shopping there isn't too bad and the drive out there is quite scenic.
(41) Went there before sunset to find it flocked with tourists. Entrance to the area was 60,000 Rupiah. The tide was still low so we could walk across to the temple but don't actually have access to it. There was one stairwell up which looked promising but you have to cleanse yourself with holy water and be blessed by a priest who then asks for a donation to access it. But halfway up you find again that its a viewing point and closed off as well. However, there are other viewing points you can access without the blessing ritual. The tide is unpredictable. Once you get across to a point the water level might rise before you can get back. So wear appropriate shoes for that. If you are expecting a beautiful and somewhat peaceful spot to view the sunset, this is not it.
(42) We went here on our last day in Bali. we had visited two other temples before so I was surprised at the price of this one. Twice the amount of the other ones. This temple is on a rock in the ocean which makes for a beautiful backdrop. Unfortunately there were a lot of people at this temple
(43) This attraction is so popular that it is always on the top list of must-visit. The sight is totally awesome, a temple standing proudly on the ocean. When the tide is in, there is no access to the temple. The loud, continuous rumbling sound of the ocean waves hitting the solid rock will make a perfect background in your picture.\n\nHowever, as many other touristy areas, there is also a downside here. So overcrowded, especially when sunset is coming, is this place that hardly can you have a chance to take a good picture. All in all, given the fact that a religious site blends harmoniously with nature, this place must be in your itinerary.
(44) Fabulous temple on the edge of the sea with beautiful veiw and great sea fall. Had the privelege of making it to the temple due to the lowtide. Best viewed at low tide and sunset
(45) This place is a must visit for people visiting Bali. The temple is set amidst clear waters and has a really picturesque view especially from the clifftop !\nThis is a complete touristy place with souvenir shops and restaurants.
(46) Due to proximity to the lake, this temple has a really fresh air and beutiful views. Nice getaway from humidity.
(47) Lovely temple.Always you believe you and just a couple more will be there to enjoy this spiritual place.NOT SO .THE CROWDS.It is Bali.Worth a visit.
(48) It is very picturesque, just like what you see on postcards. We went with some local friends and they explained to us the significance of this temple. Very interesting.
(49) The temple is still just as beautiful but having seen it again after 17 years, it looked more like Disneyland like me! The once so beautiful and peaceful grounds now have flags everywhere and grotesque statues and ridiculous looking 'fruit rubbish bins'.... such a shame!!\nThis is certainbly not what the tourists want to see??
(50) this is the only temple i make sure visit everytime i go to Bali it is absolutley beautiful and so calming and relaxing. I have been at all different times of day and i dont have a preferred time although the sunset time is very very busy so beware of that.
(51) We went in the afternoon, it was very hot! But we had an umbrella with us, so it protected us alot! \n\nTry to go in the early morning, it will be more beautiful!! \n\nAlways carry water with you. Be hydrated. \n600ml bottle costs only Rp3000. \n\nBut watch your step while going to temple. \nBought some Bali snacks, banana chips from old lady there
(52) Parts of the temple are beautiful, especially when combined with views of the lake and mountains. Parts are effectively a city park, with colorful cartoon animals in concrete and a little fishing pond.
(53) Big complex so wear walking shoes. Lots of places to eat but be careful some looked dirty. \nThe temples themselves were majestic perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, it was breathtaking.
(54) Temple located on the cliff top, overlooking the ocean. Temple itself not so interesting, but location makes it worth the visit. Make sure to attend the Balinese show at 6 pm just next to the temple - definitely worth it!
(55) Title says it all. Temple is beautiful, amazing architecture etc. But the sight of sun setting behind the temple is the best. I got to take some my most memorable pics here.
(56) The temple is nice located at the edge of the lake/sea with the backdrop of the mountains and has folks of people pouring in everyday. Maybe due to rains however I felt this particular temple is not maintained well
(57) It was low tide when we planned our visit and hence we could walk up to the gate of this temple. Unfortunately visitors are not allowed inside :(
(58) This temple is a must see. The temple, the mountains, water and gardens form an idyllic picture that will stay with you for a long time to come. The temple is often shrouded in mist and clouds hiding the mountain from view. It is a pity that the site is often overcrowded, but in spite of this, it is well worth a visit.\nThere are gardens and lawns surrounding the lake and areas where children can play. We had a good meal at a reasonable price at the restaurant.
(59) We went to the temple for the scenery during sunset and to take a family picture there. We were not disappointed. It was beautiful setting for a picture and we appreciate the photographer salesman that took our picture and sold the print and frame. It turned out nicely.
(60) We had our own guide to show us around and explain to us the meaning of the temple to the Balinese community. \nIt was a breathtaking view... A must place to visit and see! |
