(1) Very nice location on the lake. The tide was low but I think it must be much more suggestive when part of the temple becomes an island. The only problem is that the place has been turned into a big playground for kids. There are restaurants and shops
(2) We waded in the shallow waters as the Indian Ocean sent waves slamming against the rocks and crashing into the beach. The temple is set on a gigantic boulder which makes it rather unique. And the sunset was mesmerizing. Beautiful and tranquil place for photo-taking, a stroll, or even a picnic!
(3) We walked by the temple on the point by Nusa Dua beach and on to the Devils Tears. It is a great view of the Ocean and the waves splash into a basin in the rock formation giving a nice view. Nice place to see the Ocean and The shore line
(4) This temple is really unique due to it's location and the tide's, they provide a nice scenary for for taking pictures. \nBe sure to bring suncream and try to enjoy to temple over a longer time period.
(5) Temple itself is very nice.we had bad weather, all day rain, bud the place is magic!\nWhat dissapointed is were men who sold tickets...they want money for themselves!\nEntrance with ticket costs 50.000Rp.,without ticket 40.000Rp....that was the first bad thing in Bali for us...pitty for that beautiful place...
(6) Not too hot because of a lovely breeze from the sea. Lots of staff clearing the seaweed and bits from the sea and sand constantly . Very relaxing, Not over crowded when we were there and places to get cheap but good drinks and food. Absolutely amazing scenery and a temple which is only a short walk away.
(7) Super nice ocean view with temple on there, very crowded dont get lost with your group, go to holy water in the bottom of the temple and go to holy snake in front of / across the holy water
(8) The temple itself is breathtaking especially during sunset. However, the surroundings ruin the ambience. Aside from the hordes of tourists (unavoidable), there are a lot of unsightly construction riff raff around. \n\nThe place also has a lot of stores, some offering pay toilet services though there are free toilets for everybody near the entrance.
(9) This home of Balinese royalty was quite a treat to visit. Its landscaping and arrangement of statues, fountains, bridges and path of stones through the water as well as the nearby rice paddies and long distance view encouraged me to take a meandering pace in order to enjoy and absorb the beauty. The history of the area, including the lava flow in 1963 that covered most of the surrounding region but missed this place by a small margin, transported me. Perhaps I enjoyed the area so much in part because of our on-location guide Gusti, who was very informative, interactive, curious, kind, funny and enthusiastic. My husband and I really enjoyed our time here.
(10) Walked down the main tourist'street' to the temple. Great view from end of street but very crowded. The tide was out so you could walk to the temple rock. Quite a beautiful setting but spoilt by the crowds.
(11) I arrived here around 4 pm and a little bit crowded. People often visit here to see sunset. At that time, the tide is high and I can't cross the sea to visit the temple. \nToo many people in the area.
(12) temple is only accessibly during low tide. cliff side views, very beautiful. a lot of fun markets to walk through before the temple. be prepared for A LOT of traffic after the sun has set though, as there is a tiny road leading out of there where cars cant take over each other and everyone gets back on the road at the same time as soon as the sun has set so we were stuck in traffic for 2 hours. bike to tanah lot if you can, it's the only way to get out of there
(13) Overall a nice place to visit. I like visiting temples in Bali for their architecture and Hindu influence. But it was a long drive (2.5hr) from Semiyak. Perhaps to visit once is okie. \n\nAlso a nice place for ppl watching and how crazy one can go for the perfect Ig photo. I'm not an Ig fan. But when you are here, you must see how crazy ppl go to take the most stylish photo to post on their social media, without according the respect that ought to be given to this sacred place of worship.
(14) We got here before sunset & walked across to the temple where we were blessed, then came back across the water to watch the sun set - a truly magical experience 😃
(15) I just don't get it. There are some incredible sites and places to visit in Bali, but not this one. There is not much to see, you can't get close to the temple, there is a cliff...and that is really it. It's packed with tourists and it's just not worth it.
(16) This temple could be very solemn due to location. Center of a lake, and surrounded by mountain ridge... however due to the hored of tourist... it has lost its tranquility. You can't get a nice shot of the temple, and the surroundings... and it is just too noisy.\n\nMaybe if you visit during off peak. Then you can tell me of your experience.
(17) When I ride bike to the temple around the noon, weather is cloud. The temperature is much cooler than Denpasar. The lake is so beautiful. The temple looks surreal.
(18) Place is very crowded ad the place looks so beautiful during sunset. U can not go to the temple which is inside the sea. But the place is beautiful with high waves crashing on the mountain.
(19) This is another place of interest to visit where you can see the temple just near to the sea. I am not sure if you can walk in but taking pictures should be fine..
(20) This temple maybe is the best known landmark of Bali! - 2,5 h drive from Denpasar/Sanur. The \Pura Ulan Danu\" is a huge Hindu Shaivite water temple. You also can read that this temple is a \"floating temple\"!?? - well I don't know! - it don't looks like floating at all! :) Beautiful surroundings and a nice maintained garden, too. It's going up, up to 4068 ft - cool, fresh mountain air and the beautiful Lake Beratan. Lots of nice spots for pics! - you can rent a boat, too! On your trip up and down - ask the driver for stops nearby one of this many photogenic sites or stop by a restaurant with lookout terrasses. Have a nice tour! Ticket for the temple = 50k irp"
(21) Not being Hindu doesn't stop you appreciating the beauty of this place. Having a Hindu driver explaining the different temples and gods is a bonus. \nI recommend venturing across the water to wash your hands and face in the spring water and receive a blessing. \n\nVery calm and welcoming space.
(22) We had a nice family stroll after breakfast..2nd visit and still charming..make sure you make your way into the Holy Spring Temple for some photo perfect shots.
(23) Great grounds with long walks available along each side of the temple (see screenshot attached). This is really just as well as the main temple buildings are closed and not accessible to the public. Entrance is IDR 30k and parking just IDR 1k.\n2179
(24) Beautiful example of Balinese culture and religious significance.
(25) The temple itself was nothing spectacular, but the view at the area is simply breathtaking! A great place to catch the sunset and for photography.
(26) One of the many templey in Bali, but this one is partly on the rock in the see. Of course it is crowded with tourists, but you can enjoy pretty nice views and sunset here.
(27) Nice view. When I came, there was an event for their ritual called galungan and kuningan. It was a raining day. So I could not see the sunset view. You have to pay some amount of money to enter this place. If you wanted to see a ritual activities you have to pay some other amounts to see the ritual. Overall, best views.
(28) The two unique pillars which act as the entrance to the first temple is an amazing location for photos. It simply looks like a gateway to the skies. This temple was not crowded at all and we were able to walk around and enjoy the peaceful environment within the temple while enjoying the amazing sceneries.\nThe first temple itself is located at quite an elevation, so the sceneries are worthwhile.\n\nWe just had to pay ~$2 for sarong and we were told we can donate any amount as well if we wish.
(29) Brilliant place with great scenic views. The waves collide with rocks on top of which is a pretty temple. One of the most sought after places in Bali and great for a nice sunset view.
(30) Temple or Pura they called in bali.\nOught to see the surrounding with breathtaking from the top and scenic view of the ocean.\nPlace is clean with dumpster to throw your finish drinks bottle or foods, unlike certain place where difficult to find one.\nGo in late afternoon to enjoy and watch the sunset if weather permit.\nOverall worth a trip..
(31) A must go place in Bali. It takes about 1.5 hour drive to reach there, located on higher ground and it cool up there. Beautiful pagoda temple on a big lake. Well maintain botanical garden around. Excellant!
(32) It is the most famous temple in Bali and it means \temple of water\". If I had one word to describe it that one word would be magic. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my whole life."
(33) we totally love this temple wondering how a small temple can stand up all the time by the strong wave. this must be built by the power of pure spirit. we admired this scenic, spent 1.5 hours. will back someday
(34) You've seen the pictures but it's still nice to visit. The seaside location with the big waves and the breeze is a nice escape from the concrete jungle, and the temple and gardens are suitably picturesque. It's a bit of a hike to get here, but worth it if you have the time and a driver for the day. We combined it with Mengwi on the way to Ubud, and the two together were a nice taste of Bali temples.
(35) Very beautiful place. I like visiting temples and I think this is one of the best. The weather however wasn't cooperating at the time for it was a little cool and rainy, but there was a ceremony taking place and the Balinese that were attending dressed in their ceremonial outfits and looked very nice. I would have added a photo but lost my camera.
(36) Was expecting a grand sunrise but it was very cloudy in this area with lots of wind and harsh waves. Pretty nice to see it but not my favorite temple.
(37) it is on a cliff so it is a beautiful view of the ocean, but there is not much to the temple. I must say I am a seasoned traveler so I am jaded. if you are just starting to travel you may more appreciative. I would have gathered stayed at my Bulgari villa overlooking the Indian ocean.
(38) excellent visit, one off the best visit in Bali, try to visit the morning by the small boats in front off the temple, on the sunrise, the light of the sun ( orange) is beautifull on the temple, and the garden is very good to visit and to wlak
(39) The temple was inaccessible to outsiders ,as in tourists, but the whole place was simply beautiful. When we reached it was drizzling and the the entire scene was right out of a painting. Just mesmerizing!!
(40) Excellent views of the sea and cliffs. A pathway close to the cliffs allows you to walk from one side of the cliff to the temple. The Indian ocean at its best - with the waves crashing on the cliffs is a sight to behold. There are quite some steps but I did see a lot of old folks visiting the place. The breeze is so heavy in some places that it can push you forward - so ensure that you tie you hair and dont wear lose clothes. There are a couple of monkey also around, so make sure to leave your flashy jewellery and purses back at the hotel. As this is a temple, you are required to cover your legs. The temple staff provide you with a wrap if you are wearing clothes that expose your legs. Women who have their period are not allowed near the temple but can look at the views.
(41) The temple has a great location. The view at sun set is great. But is is quite crowded as it is one of the most visited place in Bali.
(42) we visited in the evening and it was full of people trying to catch a glimpse of the setting sun. Alas, the sunset was hardly visible due to cloudy weather. the temple provides awesome photography spots if the cloud is not there.. however on that particular evening all the tourists were watching couple of surfers ho were pulling off nice moves in the sea below.
(43) When in Bali I would suggest that you visit this temple as priority. I would not go at sunset as it becomes quite busy. We went early afternoon and the experience was amazing. The surrounding gardens are well maintained and you are able to walk through the small village near the temple. Take your camera!
(44) We were there as part of a tour . \nThe temple is located on a cliff, and it's not very accessible. However, the sunset is stunning. \nThe only downside is that there are soo many tourists it's hard to enjoy it.
(45) This visit was probably the highlight of our Bali trip. The ride was long from Ubud but the views here were amazing. You can spend around 1 hour or more here. Its pretty beautiful landscape. The temple architecture is pretty great as well.

(46) First of all: We have been traveling through Asia for 12 months straight and visited a lot of holy places and temples. Any kind of religion that can be found in Asia. We always make sure we dress nice and appropriately: Long pants, shirts that cover the arms, no headwear in temples or holy grounds, and no shades when entering. Sometimes the women need to wear a sarong, so we always have one with us.\nHere it is a bit different: you NEED to RENT a sarong for 10.000 IDR per person (€ 0,70, at times of writing). My wifes' sarong wasn't good enough. We don't want to hurt the feelings of the locals, so alright. We went up to the first temple and saw a lot of tourist taking all the same pictures. We saw a few locals... In normal clothing (some women wearing a sarong). Who are you kidding? I went up alone and saw some girls in wearing a sarong (opened through the wind, showing some mini hot pants) and spaghetti tops where the lady parts are hard to miss. It's not about the money, but the way they try to \earn\" it. Except for the rental, they also expect you to give a donation before you saw anything. How can I give a donation like that? Maybe I gave something, but want to give more or less according to what I saw?\n\nThe temple itself isn't very different from what we saw before, but the view is to die for! But if you drive/walk a little bit further down the road you will have great views too, and you don't have to rent anything to enjoy a piece of nature."
(47) The friends we were with came here 28 years ago when you walked into the temple, beach and cliff top from the road. Now like most things it is highly commercialised. You pay to park and enter the temple compound and then you negotiate a whole faux village with hundreds of souvenir and clothing shops, most in Balinese style but weirdly the odd western brand e.g. Ralph Lauren Polo, which looked stupidly out of place. \n\nWe climbed the path to the cliff edge which is full of rows of bars so you must buy a drink to sit in front of the view of the sunset.\n\nThe sunset made it worthwhile but the rest spoilt it for me.
(48) Quite a spectacular temple which is made in the rock and is actually in the ocean. When the tide is low you can walk quite close to it, but not inside (that is for hindu only). You can find multiple angle to look at it and enjoy the roaring ocean waves breaking against the rocks.
(49) This was once a cultural visit but the sheer hoarde of tourists means the temple is completely closed to tourists (fair enough too). All that is left is a 200 meter walk along the cliff edge (signs saying don't climb on the edge of the cliifs ignored by morons.) and a short walk back to the very crowded car park. Zero cultural value (other than the nightly show), zero pleasant experience. View of sea/?..not worth it)
(50) Nice scenery. Great environment. The temple is very unique. Just couldn't understand in the middle of the hill... you can find a lake.
(51) We went there with our local tourist guide. We do not have to wear a sarong, which was very surprising (maybe due to huge amount of tourists). There is big lake around and gardens around.
(52) When you actually see the temple and the rock it sits on, you realize how small it is. The area around the temple is a marketplace with vendors setting up stalls and doing tourist business. Most visitors crowd onto a spot near the sea to take a photo with the island, but if you walk up the path there are several restaurants along a cliff directly opposite the rock island where you can take clear shots of the temple without anyone blocking you.
(53) A very beautiful site. we were lucky and managed to arrive just before sunset, the view was breath taking, and in the evening low tide, you can walk to one of the temple and get a blessing from the local monk. Very special experience all together.\n\nTraffic to the site can be a hassle though. so plan for plenty of spear time and be here early if you don't want to miss the sunset.
(54) This is a great location to take photos especially around sunset since the color of the temple changes due to the light. \nThe sand here is a silvery gray and different from the beaches on the eastern part of the island.\nEntry to the temple is allowed only before sunset.\nBeware of monks trying to make money by making you pay for a view of a snake and other \attractions\"."
(55) The temple was as beautiful expected. We took lots of pics here, it was breezy and cool. There is short walk on the left side of the temple which leads to a plain grassland and full lake view behind. I think most travelers miss this spot while its actually fun to be there. Do wear a sarong before entering (for more colorful pics)
(56) Came as part of a full day trip with other sites, it is very touristy and only seems to be open for the sunset.\nThe temple is very unique and a lovely setting, the shops and everyone else are trying to sell everything from flowers to flying birds or pictures with snakes and bats.\nWe went up to a restaurant to have drinks and why not disappointed with the sunset it was spectacular.
(57) First time coming to here, as the temple is far away from the Town, suggested to book one day tour and travel together with other tourists spot. \n\nBeware of the slippery rocks and the strong waves and you will find Bali's unique attractiveness as the temple together with the sea is such a beautiful view!\n\nAlso tourists are forbidden to walk to the temple so please respect their rules. Advised to ask the locals the best timing to visit the temple as the views will be totally different under the tidal effect.
(58) A lot of people before sunset (popular tour program). May be would be better to visit this temple in sunrise time.
(59) You have to wear a sarong before you enter. The sarong is already free with the entrance fee that you paid. Make sure to choose a new sarong because sometimes there are sarongs that are already wet with another person's sweat. Don't bring a hat or sunglasses because there are monkey's around and they might just grab and steal your loose items.\n\nIt is pretty hot inside so I would suggest to bring an umbrella. Once inside, the view is pretty nice. Beautiful view of the ocean, cliffs and temples.
(60) Go early in the morning before the tours arrive. Make sure to go down to see the temple by the river. |
